Abstract

This aims of research was study about the effect of application of urea fertilizer and goat manure toimprove N-total on Inceptisol Kwala Bekala and its relation to the growth of maize. The researchwas conducted in the screen house and Chemical and Soil Fertility Laboratory, Faculty ofAgriculture, University of North Sumatra .This study used randomized block designed whichconsists of 2 factors and 3 replications. The first factor urea which consists of 4 levels : 1. U0 (0kg/ha), 2. U1 (100 kg/ha), 3. U2 (200 kg/ha), 4. U3 (300 kg/ha) and the second factor of goatmanure: 1. K0 (0 tons/ha), 2. K1 (10 tons/ha), 3. K2 (20 tons/ha), 4. K3 (30 tons/ha).The resultsshowed urea fertilizer application increased significantly of plant height, the best treatment at 100kg/ha. Application of goat manure increased significantly soil C-organic, N-uptake, plant height,dry weight and dry root plant, the best treatment at 30 tons/ha. Interaction of urea fertilizerapplication and goat manure increased the dry weight of shoot and N-uptake. The best treatmentwas the application 100 kg/ha urea and goat manure 30 tons/ha.Keywords : urea fertilizer , goat manure , N-total.

Abstract

The aim of experiment was to find out the effect of mount Sinabung on leaf blight disease(Phytophthora infestans) disease on potatoes (Solanum tuberosum Linn.). The research was held atSimpang Empat districts, Karo distric, North Sumatera from March until May 2014. This researchwas conducted using survey method by simple linear regression quantitative analyzis, ie regressionof the number of eruption regression and incidence of leaf blight disease percentage, regressionbetween the control after occurres eruption with incidence of leaf blight disease and regression leafblight disease between control after occurres eruption with production of potatoes. The resultshowed that the number of eruption did have significant relationship with incidence of leaf blightdisease percentage, and the control after occurance of the eruption did have significant relation withincidence of disease and production of potatoes in Simpang Empat distric. The highest incidence ofdisease in Torong village with 1.6% and the lowest were showed in Bilan Baru village with 1.1%.The highest potatoes production was in Bulan Baru village with 9.4 Ton/Ha and the lowestproduction was in Ujung village with 5.4 Ton/Ha.Keywords : potatoes, leaf blight disease and Sinabung eruption

Abstract

The objective of this research was to study the effect of some pupae size of sugarcane stem boreron the Tetrastichus sp. population in laboratory. Complete randomized complete design with twofactors, i.e Tetrastichus sp. population ( 4, 5, and 6 pair ), and PBR, PBB, and PBK pupae size(pupae size of PBR : 2-2.9 cm, 3-3.4 cm and ≥ 3.5 cm, pupae size of PBB : 0.5-0.9 cm, 1-1.4 cmand ≥ 1.5 cm, pupae size of PBK : 0.5-0.9 cm, 1-1.4 cm and ≥ 1.5 cm) and three replications wasused to conducting this research at Laboratory of Sugarcane Research and Development SeiSemayang, Binjai, Medan, North of Sumatera from February until July 2013. The results showedthat pupae size of PBR, PBB and PBK significantly affected the number of emerging parasitoidadult and sex ratio. The highest number of parasitoid adult (19.84 adult) was founded at pupae sizeof PBR ≥ 3.5 cm treatment, meanwhile the lowest (0.94 adult) was founded at pupae size of PBK0.5-0.9 cm treatment. Sex ratio of male and female was 1 : 3.08.Keywords : Parasitoid, Sugarcane stem borer, Tetrastichus sp.

Abstract

Metarhizium able to control variable growth phase of insect, such as egg, larvae, pupae, and adult.Effect of fungicide on Metarhizium is rarely reported. This research aims to determine impact offungicide to fungal colony growth of Metarhizium anisopliae (Metch) Sorokin. Conducted at PlantPathology Laboratory, Agriculture Faculty, University of North Sumatera, from August untilNovember 2013. Arranged non-factorial completely randomized design with twenty one treatmentsand three replications. Petridish contained 1 ml fungicide + 9 ml PDA, used one point technic,incubated at room temperature. The result showed that fungicide effect toward fungal colonygrowth of Metarhizium anisopliae (Metch) Sorokin. Highest fungal colony diameter was on 1.000ppm Mankozeb 80 WP which reached 7.67 cm, meanwhile lowest fungal colony diameter was on20.000 ppm Tebukonazol 25 WP which reached 0.88 cm. Highest fungal colony extensive was on1.000 ppm Mankozeb 80 WP which reached 45.23 cm2, meanwhile the lowest fungal colonyextensive was on 20.000 ppm Tebukonazol 25 WP which reached 0.53 cm2.Keywords : Metarhizium anisopliae, fungicide, biological agent.

Abstract

Erosion strongly influenced by vegetation, slope and erodibility. USLE method used to predictactual erosion. Vegetation factor, slope and erodibility used to examine the relationship of the actualerosion and analyzed with multivariate. Soil sampling in the upstream Sub DAS Padang at Rayadistrict, Simalungun based on vegetation, slope and erodibility with a sample size of the 33 samplepoints. The results showed that the highest erosion at 7.177,84 tons.ha-1.year-1 on the non-vegetationwith criteria levels classified as very severe erosion hazard and lowest erosion of 24,30 tons.ha-1.year-1 on the forest vegetation protected by the criteria of erosion potential as very mild.Keywords : Soil erosion, USLE method, DAS Padang

Abstract

The objective of the research was to test of various types of active ingredient to White Root Disease(WRD) (Rigidoporus microporus (Swartz: Fr)) Without Tillage Area (WTA). This research wasconducted in the experimental garden of Sungei Putih, Deli Serdang with a height of ± 80 m aslfrom March 2014 until June 2014. The method used was Randomized Blok Design non factorial in3 replications. The factor was used active ingredients the pathogens aktif (triadimefon,Trichoderma sp, endophytic bacteria, bangun-bangun leaf extract, liquid smoke and water.Parameters observed were attack intensity, stem diameter and plant height. The results showed thatdifferent types of active ingredients very significant effect on the attack intensity and plant heightbut significant effect in stem diameter. The best result to suppress the intensity of theA (triadimefon) of 0% and C (endophytic bacteria) of 1.67%. The best result to increase in thediameter and plant height on B (Trichoderma sp) of 57.05% and 72.14%.Key words: active ingredients, Rigidoporus microporus, rubber, without tillage area

Abstract

The objective of the research was to determine the best medium for micro shoot induction of rubbertree from node explant in WPM medium with combination of Benzylamino purine (BAP) andNaphthalane-acetic acid (NAA). The research was conducted in Microcutting Laboratory,PT. Perkebunan Nusantara III Tebing Tinggi Sumatera Utara Medan from Februari 2014-Juni 2014,used complete random design with sixteen treathments and fifteen replications.The result showedthat combination BAP and NAA in WPM gave significantly different on percent of explant formingshoot. Meanwhile, for parameter life explant combination concentrated BAP and NAA showed nosignificantly different.Keywords: rubber, micro shoot, BAP, NAA, WPM

Abstract

The aim of this research was to determine growth response of cacao seedlings by givingvermicompost and watering time interval in the subsoil. The research had been conducted in theGreenhouse Faculty of Agriculture, University of Sumatera Utara, Medan on May 2013 untilAugust 2013 by using Randomized Block Design with two factors: vermicompost (0, 10, 20, 30%growth media volume) and watering time interval (1, 3, 5, and 7 days). The parameters observedwere plant height, stem diameter, total of leaf area, canopy fresh weight, canopy dry weight, rootfresh weight, root dry weight, root height, and water use efficiency. The results showed thatvermicompost has significant effects to plant height 4-14 WAP, stem diameter 4-14 WAP, total ofleaf area, root fresh weight, root height and water use efficiency but not significant to canopy freshweight, canopy dry weight and root dry weight. Watering time interval has significant effects toplant height 10, 12 and 14 WAP, stem diameter 8, 10, 12 and 14 MST, canopy fresh weight, canopydry weight,total of leaf area and water use efficiency but not significant to plant height 4, 6 and 8MST, stem diameter 4 and 6 WAP, root fresh weight, root dry weight, and root height.Theinteraction of vermicompost and watering interval had not significant.Keywords : vermicompost, Watering Time Interval, Cacao

Abstract

This study aims to determine the growth and the production response of broccoli on application ofchicken manure and Phosphate Solubilizing fungi. This research was conducted in the field of BalaiPenyuluhan Pertanian (BPP) Kuta Gadung, subdistrict Berastagi Karo regency of North Sumatrawith altitude ± 1250 meters above sea level in January - April 2014 using a Randomized BlockDesign (RBD) factorial with 2 factors : chicken manure (0 kg , 3 kg , 6 kg ,9 kg per plot) and fungiphosphate solvent (10 ml , 20 ml , 30 ml per plant).The variable observations measured were plantheight , stem diameter , number of leaves , fresh weight per plant samples , selling fresh weight perplant sample and the number of chlorophylls. The results showed that the variable observationsresponse of broccoli plant height (cm) 6 weeks after plant ,broccoli stem diameter (mm) 6 weeksafter plant, number of leaves of broccoli plants (strands) 6 weeks after plant , fresh weight perbroccoli plant sample (g), selling fresh weight per broccoli plant sample (g) and the amount ofbroccoli chlorophylls was different significantly affected against chicken manure but nonsignificantly affect againts fungi phosphate solvent and both interactions.Keywords :Chicken Manure, Fungi Phosphate Solvent, Broccoli

Abstract

The purpose of the study was to determine the response of growth and yield of shallot (Alliumascalonicum L.) on time applications and KNO3 concentrations. The research was conducted at Pasar1 street No. 89 Tanjung Sari Medan, with a height of 25 metre above sea level, began from Julyuntil September 2013. The design of the research was a Randomized Block Design non factorialwith 13 treatments were: Control (without treatments); (KNO3 5 g/l water + application at 14, 21, 28,35 HST); (KNO3 5 g/l water + application at 14, 21, 28 HST); (KNO3 5 g/l water + application at 14,21 HST); (KNO3 5 g/l water + application at 14 HST); (KNO3 10 g/l water + application at 14, 21, 28,35 HST); (KNO3 10 g/l water + application at 14, 21, 28 HST); (KNO3 10 g/l water + application at14, 21 HST); (KNO3 10 g/l water + application at 14 HST); (KNO3 15 g/l water + application at 14,21, 28, 35 HST); (KNO3 15 g/l water + application at 14, 21, 28 HST); (KNO3 15 g/l water +application at 14, 21 HST); (KNO3 15 g/l water + application at 14 HST). Parameters observed wereplant height, tillers number, wet weight per sample, dry weight per sample, wet weight per plot anddry weight per plot. The results showed that all parameters observed were unsignificantly affectedby time applications and KNO3 concentrations except for plant height 5 – 7 weeks after planting.Key words : Shallot, time application, KNO3 fertilizer.
