Abstract

ABSTRACTResponse in Growth and Yield of Shallot (Allium ascalonicum L.) on Giving Vermicompost andRabbit Urine. The use of chemical fertilizersis an alternative that is often selected farmers toincrease the production of shallot. Because of that giving of vermicompost and rabbit urine is expectedto replace the role of chemical fertilizers in increasing the growth and production of shallot. Thisresearch had been conducted at Farm Resident on street Pasar I number 89 Tanjung Sari, Medanfrom May until July 2013 using factorial randomized block design with two factor, i.e. dose ofvermicompost (0, 15, 30 and 45 g vermicompost/plant) and dose of rabbit urine (0, 125 and 250 cc/l).Parameter observed were plant height, tillers number per clump, leaves number per clump, clovenumber per sample, wet weight tuber per sample, wet weight tuber per plot, dry weight tuber persample, and dry weight tuber per plot. The result showed that vermicompost treatment not significantlyaffected all of parameter observed. Rabbit urine treatment increase plant height, tillers number perclump, clove number per sample, wet weight tuber per sample, wet weight tuber per plot, dry weighttuber per sample, and dry weight tuber per plot. The treatment interaction significantly effected onparameters tillers number per clump and clove number per sample. The best result were showed byvermicompost treatment 15 g/plant and rabbit urine treatment 250 cc/l.Keywords : Vermicompost, rabbit urine, shallot

Abstract

Response of Giving Liquid Organic Fertilizer and NPK At Biwa Plant (Eriobotrya japonica Lindl.) Inthe Main Nursery. Biwa plant nurseries face constraints in fertilizer recommendation. Thereforethrough liquid organic fertilizer and NPK plant is expected to boost growth in the nursery biwa.Research conducted at the Experiment Berastagi in March - June, 2013, using a factorial randomizedblock design with two factors: the concentration of organic manure (0, 5, 10 ml / L) and NPK fertilizerdoses (0, 5, 10 and 15 g / polybag ). The parameters measured were plant height, stem diameter, crownwidth, of the number of leaves, number of leaf chlorophyle and total leaf area. The results showed thatthe liquid fertilizer oganik significant effect on the amount of leaf chlorophyll but not significant effecton other parameters. NPK fertilizer significant effect on plant height, stem diameter, crown width, of thenumber of leaves, and total leaf area. Their interaction effect was not significant on all variablesobservations. The best results from this study were obtained in the treatment of liquid organic fertilizer10ml / L and 5 g of NPK fertilizer / polybag.Keywords: nursery, organic liquid fertilizer, NPK fertilizer, biwa.

Abstract

ABSTRACTResponse of cacao (Theobroma cacao L.) seedlings vegetative growth with the provision ofvermicompost and water at various field capacity. Research aim to know the response of cacaoseedlings vegetative growth with the provision of vermicompost and water at various field capacity.It was conducted at green house, Faculty of Agriculture USU’st about 25 m sea level on November2012 to February 2013 by using a randomized block design factorial with two factor that is the firstfactor were vermicompost (0%, 10%, 20% and 30% of media plant) and the second factor wereprovision of water at various field capacity (100%, 75%, 50% and 25%). The parameters observedwere seedling height, stem diameter, total of leaf area, seedling wet weight, seedling dry weight,root wet weight, root dry weight and water use efficiency. The result of research showed thatvermicompost significant to seedling height, stem diameter, total of leaf area, seedling wet weight,seedling dry weight, root wet weight, root dry weight and water use efficiency. Abstract

ABSTRACTThe Ability of Rhynocoris fuscipes F. (Hemiptera: Reduviidae) to nettle caterpillar Setothoseaasigna E. (lepidoptera: limacocidae) as a predator in the laboratory, it was under supervised byProf. Dr. Ir. Darma Bakti, MS. and Ir. Lahmuddin Lubis, MP. The research was to know the abilityof R. fuscipes to Setothosea asigna. The research was held at the Insect Laboratory, Faculty ofAgriculture, University of Sumatera Utara, Medan from April to Juni 2013. It was arranged byCompletely Randomized Design with 6 treatments and four replications, respectively. The total ofpredator againts nettle caterpillar Sethotosea asigna are: R0 (0:8),R1 (2♂:8 ), R2 ( 2♀:8 ) R3,(♂♀:8 ) ,R4 ( 2♂♀:8), R5 (3♂♀:8). The parameters which observed were the mortality persentageof S. asigna caused by predator R. fuscipes and how to consumed. The result showed that the mosteffective treatment is R5, R4, R3, R2, R1 and R0 at a stretch. Abstract

ABSTRACTThe growth and yield of a selected tobacco varieties (Nicotiana tabaccum L) treated withmycorhiza fungi arbuskular were evaluated in a field experiment. The aimed of the research was todetermine the effect of mycorhiza fungi on the growth and yield of several varieties of tobacco. Theresearch was conducted outdoor in the field at Balai Benih Penelitian Tembakau Deli Medan withaltitude of about 25 meters above sea level at the beginning of February until May 2012, with twotreatment factors. The first factors is Varieties of tobacco (Tobacco deli varieties F1-45, VirginiaTobacco varieties NC 95, Tobacco varieties Deli Deli-4), the second factors is mycorhiza fungiarbuskular (without mycorhiza fungi arbuskular, 15 g/plant, 30 g/plant and 45 g/plant). Theparameters measured were plant height, number of leaves, stem diameter, and sand leaf length. Theresults showed that mycorhiza fungi arbuskular showed the best results for the parameters of plantheight, and steam diameter. Varieties significant effect on the parameters of plant height, stemdiameter, sand leaf weight. Combination treatment with different varieties mycorhiza significanteffect on plant height and stem diameter.Keywords: Mycorrhiza, varieties, Nicotiana tabaccum.

Abstract

Peanut is one of food plant that has high economical value because of its nutrient content especially proteinand fat. The other alternative to increase peanut productivity were application of empty fruit bunch compostand pile up frequency. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of empty fruit bunch compostand pile up frequency toward the growth and production of peanut This research was held on JalanPenampungan, Delitua, Namorambe, Deli Serdang with altitude ± 25 metre,took place on April to July 2013. The study design was a factorial randomized block design with two factors, namely empty palm bunches (0,12, 24 and 36 g /plant) and pile up frequency (0; 21; 21,42 and 21,42,63 days). The parameters measuredwere plant height, number of branches, days to flowering, number of ginofor per sample, number of pods persample, number of pods per plot, weight of pods per sample, the weight of pods per plot, seed weight persample, dry weight of 100 seeds. The results showed that composting of empty palm bunches significantlyaffect the parameters of number of ginofors per sample. Pile up frequency significantly affected the numberof pods per plot. Treatment interaction significantly affected the number of ginofors per sample.Keywords: peanut, empty palm bunches, pile up frequency.

Abstract

Efficacy Test of Entomopathogenic Nematodes as a Controll of Coconut Palm Beetle (Oryctesrhinoceros L.) (Coleoptera : Scarabaidae) in the Laboratory. This research was conducted todetermine the effectiveness of entomopathogenic nematodes. as a controll of O. rhinoceros L.(Coleoptera : Scarabidae) in the Laboratory. This research was carried out in the Laboratoryof Pests and Laboratory of Plant Diseases, Agroecotechnology, Faculty of Agriculture, Universityof North Sumatra from January to March 2013. The method of this research was CompletelyRandomized Design (CRD) non-Factorial which consist of 6 treatments and 3 replications.Treatments being tested were 6 levels of population density Infective Juvenile (JI) of nematodesentomopathogenic (0, 50, 100, 150, 200, 250 JI/ml). The results of this research showed that withpopulation density of nematodes entomopathogenic 200 JI/ml and 250 JI/ml at 144 hours after theapplication is effective for controlling larva mortality O. rhinoceros L. for 85,71% and 100%.The fastest ’s larval mortality time was found with population density of nematodesentomopathogenic 250 JI/ml at 24 hours after the application.Keywords: Oryctes rhinoceros L., oil palm, entomopathogenic nematodes

Abstract

The Calculations of Formulae Structure of Clay Minerals on Inceptisols at University of NorthSumatera Land Kwala Bekala. The calculation have not been researched in this area. Therefore, aresearch had been conducted survey at USU Land Kwala Bekala Pancur Batu Subdistrict, DeliSerdang Regency (70 meters above sea level) in March-July 2013 by using method of calculation ofsome elements that formation of clay mineral. Abstract

The generative propagation of Mucuna bracteata is very difficult and requires special treatment.Dormancy breaking in hard seed of Mucuna purpose to enhance germination. The research wasconducted at the public land, Tanjung Selamat, Deli Serdang from November 2012 to February2013, using a randomized block design with 2 factors and 3 replications. The first factor was thedormancy breaking (control, cutting the seed coat, polished with sand paper, and hot water soaking)and the second factor was gibberellin (GA3) (0, 150, 300 and 450 ppm). The parameters observedwere the germination, long tendrils, number of leaves, shoot dry weight, root dry weight. The resultshowed that the dormancy breaking significantly affected to all parameters. Giving of Gibberellins(GA3) significantly affected to the germination and shoot dry weight. Interaction between dormancybreaking and Gibberellins significantly affected to the germination and shoot dry weight. The bestgermination were showed by cutting the seed coat and giving 300 ppm GA3.Keywords : dormancy fracturing, gibberellins, germination, Mucuna bracteata.

Abstract

Penelitian berjudul pertumbuhan dan akuisisi n, p, k bibit kelapa sawit (Elaeis guineensis Jacq.)sistem single stage dengan perlakuan media tanam limbah kelapa sawit bertujuan untuk mengetahuipertumbuhan dan akuisisi N, P, K bibitkelapa sawit (Elaeis guineensis Jacq.) sistem single stagedengan media tanam limbah kelapa sawit. Penelitian menggunakan rancangan acak kelompok nonfaktorial yang terdiri atas 13 jenis media tanam yang terdiri atas top soil, sub soil, serat, soliddecanter, top soil + sub soil (1:1), top soil + serat (1:1), top soil + solid decanter (1:1), top soil +serat + solid decanter (1:1:1), sub soil + serat (1:10), sub soil + serat (1:1), sub soil + solid decanter(1:1), sub soil + serat + solid decanter (1:1:1), top soil + sub soil + serat (1:1:1), dan top soil + subsoil + solid decanter (1:1:1). Parameter yang diamati adalah tinggi bibit, diameter batang, bobotkering akar, bobot kering tajuk, volume akar, dan kadar NPK daun. Hasil penelitian menunjukkanbahwa asing-masing media menunjukkan perbedaan pertumbuhan dan akuisisi N, P, K. Mediatanam berpengaruh nyata pada tinggi bibit 14 MST, bobot kering akar dan tajuk, volume akar, dankadar N daun. Kombinasi perlakuan serat dan solid decanter terbaik ditunjukkan oleh perlakuan topsoil+serat+solid decanter), M12 (top soil+sub soil+serat) dan M13 (top soil+sub soil+soliddecanter).Kata kunci : pertumbuhan, akuisisi, bibit, kelapa sawit
