Abstract

The study investigated technological motivation and perception of secondary school students in English language since the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic in Osun State. The study is a descriptive study; a sample of 400 students from Osogbo and Olorunda, Osun Central, Osun State formed the participants for the study. The instrument for data collections was questionnaire and reliability level was 0.78. Data collected were analyzed descriptive statistics (frequency count and simple percentages), t-test and correlation. The findings of the study revealed that secondary school students perceived the roles of technological in English language since the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic in Osun State as it is easy to use, it save time, develop interest in learning, provides communication medium for information, promote individual learning and it promote active learning. Projector, public address, multimedia software, interactive board, computer, scanner and printer are the technology facilities available for students use since the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic while others like internet facilities, media player, Learning Management System (LMS), zoom and google classroom are not available for use. The study of the findings revealed the challenges encountered by students while using technology facilities as a motivator since the outbreak of covid-19 pandemic as ICT software is not readily available, insufficient number of ICT, insufficient technical support from ICT, absence of constant electricity, amongst others and there is no significant difference in the frequency use of technology facilities as a motivator between public and private secondary schools in Osun State. The following recommendation were made such as: the ministry of education and local government education authority should provide computers, internet and other ICT tools in all the government own schools so as to encourage teachers use of ICTs, employers of teachers should give sufficient technical skills to their employees on ICT tools, teachers training institutions like institutes of education, colleges of education, National Teachers Institutes and so on should make ICTs course compulsory for all the teachers under training to make them familiar with the use of ICTs in teaching and learning.

Abstract

This study describes the application of token economy intervention to an early childhood who has attention deficit disorder with hyperactivity. The method used is a qualitative case study, which involves in-depth observation and interviews with the child's parents and teachers. The research subject was a 5-year-old child who had difficulty in focusing attention accompanied by hyperactivity. The intervention was conducted for 23 days, during which the child was given tokens as rewards for positive behavior and certain achievements. The success of the intervention was measured by recording changes in the child's behavior. Interview techniques were also conducted to evaluate parents and teachers perceptions and provide education in helping to deal with children's problems. The results of the study showed a significant improvement in the child's ability to focus attention, this can be seen from the decrease in impulsive behavior and the increase in tasks that can be completed. In addition, parents reported positive changes in their child's daily interactions. The conclusion of this study is that token economy intervention can have a significant impact in improving the attention of early childhood with attention deficit disorder accompanied by hyperactivity, as well as providing insights for intervention practices in educational settings.

Abstract

The increasing prevalence of academic burnout among university students in Indonesia necessitates a deeper understanding of its associated factors. This study aims to examine the relationship between hardiness, grit, and academic burnout among architecture students in Surabaya. Utilizing a quantitative correlational approach, the research involved 245 architecture students enrolled in public universities across Surabaya, selected through disproportionate stratified random sampling. The Maslach Burnout Inventory-Student Survey (MBI-SS) was employed to measure academic burnout, while hardiness was assessed using the Dispositional Resilience Scale (DRS-15-Revised), and grit was measured through Angela Duckworth’s Grit Scale (2009). The findings indicate that hardiness and grit are simultaneously negatively associated with academic burnout. The regression analysis revealed a negative coefficient, suggesting that higher levels of hardiness and grit are associated with lower levels of academic burnout.

The sample of students as respondents was 100 students. Data collection techniques using questionnaires, which after tabulated. The results of data analysis based on tabulation of student answer scores on question instruments that measure self control variables (X) and school discipline compliance variables (Y) show that: (1) The results of the classical assumption test of normality, show that the estimated results of the regression model equation of this study meet the requirements of the normality test. (2) The results of the product moment correlation test show a correlation coefficient value of 0.348. So it illustrates that there is a relationship between self-control and compliance with school rules in students. The output results of the coefficient value are positive, meaning that if self control increases, student compliance will also increase. The significance of the analysis results is 0.000<0.05, meaning that there is a significant relationship between self control and school discipline compliance.

The demands of various academic assignments, both individual and group assignments, in the transition period of the third semester can lead to academic burnout due to several factors. This research used a qualitative method with a phenomenological approach and a total of three participants aged 19 to 21 years. The data collection technique was carried out using semi-structured interview techniques and data validation was carried out through member checking. Data were analyzed using thematic analysis techniques. The study found two major themes, namely the factors that cause academic burnout and the impact of academic burnout. Factors causing burnout in the three participants were divided into two, namely situational factors which include workload, supervision, and community, as well as individual factors which include personality and individual behavior towards the responsibilities. Meanwhile, the impact of burnout includes psychological, physical and daily aspects. Active action is needed to overcome academic burnout experienced by students to improve psychological well-being in the campus environment.
