Abstract

Mass media is a tool for disseminating information and ideas widely. Through discourse analysis, an ideology can be found in the news from the media. Discourse analysis aims to reveal a meaning or message contained in a text both textually and contextually. The purpose of this study is to analyze the discourse on the rejection of ethnic Muslim rohingya refugees in Indonesia in the December 11, 2023 edition of voaindonesia.com media. This study uses critical discourse analysis according to Norman Fairclough, namely the microstructural, mesostructural, and macrostructural dimensions. The results of this study show that voaindonesia.com media shows alignment towards the people of Aceh based on the analysis of three dimensions of microstructural, mesostructural, and macrostructural which are all interconnected and complement each other.

The issue of e-commerce Tiktok Shop has been widely discussed lately due to the assumption that e-commerce Tiktok Shop is considered to violate regulations and is detrimental to society. This resulted in the government's repressive response, which immediately closed Tiktok Shop and prohibited it from operating. The main object of this study is a YouTube video from a channel named Ferry Irwandi. Ferry Irwandi's YouTube channel, precisely in the video content entitled "The Government's Wrong Response to Tiktok," discusses the government's misconceptions, packaged in a good narrative from Ferry Irwandi. The data in this study are in the form of statements made by Ferry Irwandi throughout the video.

Abstract

The development of women's roles in various aspects of life has begun, including in Indonesia. In the modern era, many women pursue higher education and earn academic degrees, allowing them to be involved in various professions and industries. In addition, women in Indonesia are increasingly actively participating in the world of work. This research paper applies the three-dimensional critical discourse analysis theory proposed by (Fairclough, 1992), which views texts, in this case advertisements, based on three dimensions. The three dimensions include (1) textual dimensions (microstructural), (2) discursive practice dimensions (mesostructural), and (3) sociocultural practice dimensions (macrostructural). The data in this study are in the form of speech in the Tolak Angin commercial advertisement broadcast on October 31, 2023, via the Tolak Angin YouTube channel television with the advertisement title "Great Women Always Trust Tolak Angin to Maintain Body Resistance." This study revealed that advertisers use positive words that represent modern or contemporary women in Indonesia, such as the words "dedicated," "independent," and "optimistic," giving the public the impression that women in Indonesia today are more modern, showing that active, intelligent, and great-working individuals always maintain their physical health.

Abstract

This research was triggered by the news about the presence of the Trans Maminasata Bus (Teman Bus) in Makassar City as one of the public transportation modes that can be enjoyed by the community, which gave rise to conflict. The conflict was experienced by pete-pete drivers (angkot) and the management of the Trans Maminasata Bus (Teman Bus). The author raised three news articles that would be used as samples to be analyzed using the Conflict Theory proposed by Karl Marx. In addition, the three news articles analyzed came from different sources or media. These three news articles reported the conflict between the Transmaminata Bus Management (Teman Bus) and the pete-pete drivers. In addition, this paper will also pay attention to speech as one form of lingual unit to prove and strengthen the analysis of Karl Marx's Conflict Theory. This study found that the conflict between Pete-Pete and the Trans Maminasata Bus is related to the following things: (a) the existence of a social class structure, (b) the existence of exploitation, (c) the existence of alienation or powerlessness, (d) the existence of conflicts between class interests; (e) the occurrence of lower-class struggles; and (f) the existence of social change.

Abstract

This research aimed to analyze how the event of 7 October 2023 is depicted in the anime Fullmetal Alchemist 2003 and Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood. The theory used in this research was mainly by Julia Kristeva about intertextuality and interdiscursivity. The data used in this paper were taken from an anime called Fullmetal Alchemist 2003 and Brotherhood. This anime was chosen because of its similarity with the event happening in Palestine on 7 October 2023. Its fame has only been rewritten a few months before 2024 after the coming of a new anime entitled Sousou no Frieren. This high ranking from thousands of different anime implies that this anime is very well known among anime watchers. It can be inferred that Ishvalan is more attached and related to Palestine, as tragedy and agony happened in Ishval. It is an empathy that encourages people to support Palestinians.
