Abstract

This study aims to provide an overview of maternal and child healthcare services available at the Ratahan Subdistrict Health Center (Puskesmas) in Southeast Minahasa Regency. The background of this research is the persistently high maternal and infant mortality rates in the region, which indicate that the quality of existing healthcare services has not yet met optimal standards. A descriptive method with a qualitative approach was employed, with data collected through interviews and direct observations at the local health center. The findings reveal that the maternal and child healthcare services at Ratahan Health Center continue to face several challenges. These include inefficiencies in service delivery time, healthcare costs that are not fully affordable for the community, and limited supporting facilities and infrastructure. Community complaints regarding long waiting times and a shortage of medical personnel also contribute to the decline in service quality. The results of this study are expected to serve as input for improving maternal and child healthcare services at the community health center level and to contribute to the advancement of public health science.

Abstract

Gastritis is one of the most common digestive tract diseases with a high prevalence in Indonesia, including in Manado City. It is often associated with lifestyle factors such as irregular eating patterns, stress, use of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), and frequent consumption of spicy and acidic foods. This study aims to identify the factors associated with the incidence of gastritis at Ranotana Weru Public Health Center, Manado City. This research used a quantitative approach with a case-control design. The sample consisted of 52 respondents (26 gastritis cases and 26 controls) selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using questionnaires and analyzed with the chi-square test. The statistical analysis showed a significant relationship between eating patterns (p = 0.047) and drug consumption (p = 0.031) with the incidence of gastritis. However, no significant relationship was found between stress (p = 0.107), consumption of spicy and acidic foods (p = 0.162), gender (p = 0.205), and age (p = 0.378) and the incidence of gastritis. Poor eating habits and drug consumption are factors associated with the incidence of gastritis. Health promotion interventions regarding proper diet and careful use of medications are essential to prevent increased gastritis cases in the community.

Abstract

The food consumed must be safe in the sense of being free from physical, chemical, and microbiological contaminants. The mortality rate is still quite high (1%) compared to the Case Fatality Rate (CFR) during outbreaks which was 0.40% in 2011, and the CFR in 2018 increased to 4.76% compared to 2017 (Ministry of Health of the Republic of Indonesia, 2019). The causes of diarrhea in individuals cannot be separated from the healthy living habits of each family and the unhealthy environmental sanitation. It can be concluded that the occurrence of diarrhea is influenced by environmental factors, including access to clean water, home health conditions, and handwashing habits. This research is a study with a quantitative descriptive approach. The number of samples to be studied is 61 students. The research was conducted on May 25, 2025. There is a statistically significant relationship between defecation behavior and the occurrence of diarrhea (p 0.043). There is a significant relationship between snack behavior and the occurrence of diarrhea (p 0.041). There is a significant relationship between handwashing behavior and the occurrence of diarrhea (p 0.043). A significant relationship was found between nail cleanliness behavior and the occurrence of diarrhea (p 0.029). Overall, although some results indicate a significant relationship between clean living behavior and the incidence of diarrhea, some emerging patterns actually suggest trends that are contrary to theoretical expectations. This indicates that diarrhea prevention must be carried out comprehensively, not just focusing on one aspect of behavior, but rather integrating all good hygiene practices.
