Abstract

Instagram was a very popular social media today in Indonesia, especially for millennials. The popularity of Instagram media has been used as a means of promoting food products by culinary traders in the city of Makassar. With the promotion of food products through Instagram, netizens' speech interactions in the comments column started from asking for prices, menus, ordering or reservation systems, to marking each other and inviting their friends to eat together. This study aimed to describe the language variations on Instagram carried out by netizens in Makassar City. This research was a qualitative descriptive study and the research data is in the form of text, namely the speech of buying and selling food in the comments column for uploading advertisements for culinary account users on Instagram. Data collection was carried out from April 2020 to April 2021, during which this period was also marked by the implementation of large-scale social restrictions to minimize the spread of COVID-19. In netizen communication through Instagram, there was code-mixing of Indonesian language codes with foreign languages, regional languages and the mixing of Makassar Malay speech codes. This study found several uses of language variations in the form of words, phrases and sentences. There were various variations of non-standard language in the form of word approaches, abbreviations, and the use of foreign term insertions adopted by speakers. The use of code-mixing and informal language can be interpreted as a form of tertiary oral as well as everyday forms of communication but was carried out in written form through communication media. Communication through social media Instagram has changed the way individuals communicate and has also changed the use of people's language.

Abstract

Dixon is one of the most influential linguists in English Language Studies that proposed the idea of semantic approach in English grammatical analysis. He divided the types of verbs into six categories, including Primary A and Primary B types; and Secondary A, Secondary B, Secondary C, and Secondary D types. In Primary B types, he mentioned “attention” verbs with all of their possible syntactic properties. The “look” subtype, which is one of the subcategories of these “attention” verbs were mentioned of not allowing the existence of that-complement in the O slot. This study was initiated to illicit an extension of Dixon’s idea regarding this syntactic property of that-complement in the O slot of “look” subtype through the analysis of Javanese language structure. Based on the findings from the Javanese language corpus on SEALang Library, there were eight out of 22 samples of verbs (around 36 percent) that Dixon mentioned in the “look” subtype having that-complement in the form of “sing”, “kang”, and “ingkang” in their O slots. In the Javanese translation, these eight verbs consisted of “mirengaken”, “madosi”, “mandeng”, “ndeleng”, “mirsani”, “nginguk”, and “mriksa”. Most of the verbs appeared in the register of ngoko lugu, as this type of language records the most common utilization by the Javanese society. The findings confirmed that Dixon’s idea regarding the disallowance of that-complement in O slot of “look” subtype verbs could not be universally applied.

Abstract

Social pedagogy is a holistic approach to experiential learning, focusing on interaction, joint activities, and relationships. Social pedagogy offers paradigms for informal and non-formal educators, focusing on education for sociality. Pedagogy involves learning, teaching, and development influenced by cultural values. It differs from informal education and community learning and development. Recognizing the significance of informal education, group work, and community organization and development as practices informs social pedagogy. The current social and economic instability has exposed large pockets of disadvantaged or socially excluded people. Social policies have not effectively integrated these individuals. Community education, a pedagogical intervention, aims to improve the quality of life and well-being, particularly for those in social exclusion, and promote social cohesion. This is achieved through increased participation, empowerment, co-responsibility, and social awareness.
