Abstract

The Tulak Bla Dance ritual is an expression of the animist beliefs of the Siulak Mukai Kerinci community, Jambi Province, which is integrated through sacred dance to ward off disasters or natural disasters, reflecting harmony between humans, nature, and spiritual forces. This study aims to analyze the symbolic meaning of the dance in the ritual, the dynamics of its implementation, and its role in strengthening cultural and social resilience in the modern era. Adopting a qualitative ethnographic approach, data were obtained through participant observation of dance performances, interviews with traditional dancers and community leaders, and analysis of Kerinci cultural archives. The main findings indicate that the Tulak Bla Dance symbolizes the exorcism of evil spirits through rhythmic movements, traditional costumes, and gamelan music accompaniment, accompanied by offerings, aimed at preventing disasters such as drought or disease outbreaks. This ritual not only functions as a religious medium but also as a means of transmitting the values of mutual cooperation and ethnic identity. However, the influence of globalization and urbanization threatens the sustainability of its practice. In conclusion, the Tulak Bla Dance as a form of belief of the Siulak Mukai Kerinci community, offers insights into the integration of dance art in disaster mitigation, with suggestions for development through cultural education and festivals for the preservation of this heritage.

Abstract

This article aims to examine the evolution and preservation of the Gredoan tradition in Banyuwangi, especially in White Tiger Village, as a form of cultural and religious approach in finding a partner and strengthening the social bonds of the Osing community. The methods used include a historical approach through interviews, document analysis, and historiography to trace its development, meaning, and preservation efforts. The results of the discussion show that Gredoan was originally a social and ceremonial ritual that functioned as a symbolic and social matchmaking medium, with the process involving symbolic gestures such as inserting coconut leaves into bamboo holes. Over time, the tradition transformed into a modern art performance that attracts tourists, while still maintaining local cultural values, spirituality and ethics. The preservation of this tradition faces the challenges of modernization, but can be done through innovation and active community participation as well as government support.

Abstract

This study aims to uncover the historical and cultural value of Asrama Inggrisan Banyuwangi and explore its potential as a source of learning about local history. As one of the Dutch colonial heritage buildings on the eastern tip of Java Island, Asrama Inggrisan has an important role in the history of civilization and social interaction in the Banyuwangi region. This building still holds a hidden narrative that documents the socio-cultural transformation and cultural heritage of the area. We aim to explore the narrative embedded in Asrama Inggrisan and its education as a marker of local historical and cultural identity and how this narrative can strengthen historical awareness and act as an educational heritage tourism destination. The research was conducted using a historical method that includes the stages of heuristics, verification, interpretation, and historiography. In addition, an interdisciplinary approach was used by integrating historical studies, cultural anthropology, and history education to examine the educational and cultural values of this site. The results of the study show that Asrama Inggrisan is not only a physical heritage from the colonial era, but also a space that records social dynamics and cultural acculturation. Building awareness of local heritage sites, with the right preservation strategy, Asrama Inggrisan can be optimized as a medium for learning local history as well as a cultural tourism attraction that supports economic and cultural development in Banyuwangi. Utilizing this site as a source for learning local history can strengthen the historical awareness of the younger generation and support the preservation of local culture. This study suggests the development of contextual learning programs using local historical sites such as Asrama Inggrisan to teach integrated history as a preservation of local culture and support the preservation of history education.

Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to analyze the influence of Hindu-Buddhist culture that entered and developed in the society of the Archipelago. The method used includes field observations and literature studies obtained through a review of books, journals, and various reports related to this paper. This paper discusses the historical legacy of the Kingdom of Blambangan, the relics of King Tawang Alun in Macan Putih. It aims to gain an understanding of the origins, roles, and physical conditions of the site, as well as how Hindu-Buddhist culture has influenced the society in the Archipelago. Through activities such as Napak Tilas, the younger generation is motivated to preserve this cultural heritage. Another part of this paper focuses on the relics of King Tawang Alun II, a historical site of the Macan Putih kingdom in Java, which attracts tourists and followers of the Kejawen belief. Although many ancient artifacts have been found, the lack of maintenance has caused these historical items to be sold or destroyed. Additionally, to provide a direct picture of this site, this research will conduct interviews with caretakers and analyze various historical sources. The research method we use in this study is the historical research method, with several data collection techniques including observation, and direct interviews with sources who have knowledge about the macan putih site. With support from visitors and donors for preservation, various efforts have been made to improve this site and provide modern facilities that will satisfy visitors. This article uses a qualitative method with a literature study that includes an analysis of several journals related to the site and King Tawang Alun. This article provides a good overview of the impact of pilgrimage sites and their implications as a driving factor for tourists to visit. Furthermore, this article is intended to provide a comprehensive review of the history, impact, and maintenance conditions of this site. The results of this research show how visitors undertake pilgrimages for their respective purposes, and while there is good preservation, it is carried out independently from donations provided by visitors, and the lack of government support poses a potential loss of historical value.

Abstract

Communication plays a fundamental role in the development of educational knowledge, not merely as a means of transmitting information but as a process of constructing meaning within the broader context of educational theory. This study aims to examine educational communication from a historical perspective and to analyze its implications for the development of educational science. Specifically, it explores the conceptual foundations of educational communication, its structural elements, potential barriers, as well as its relational dimensions, including assertive and empathetic communication, and their relevance to contemporary learner characteristics. This research employs a qualitative approach using library research, drawing on various scholarly sources such as academic books, journal articles, and relevant documents. Data are analyzed using content analysis to identify, categorize, and interpret key themes related to the evolution and conceptualization of educational communication. The findings indicate that educational communication has undergone significant transformation from a linear and instructive model to a more dialogical and participatory paradigm. Conceptually, it consists of interconnected elements, including communicator, message, media, receiver, and feedback, which function dynamically within different historical and social contexts. Furthermore, the study reveals that communication barriers are shaped by semantic, cultural, psychological, and structural factors, reflecting the complexity of educational interactions. In addition, assertive and empathetic communication emerge as essential relational dimensions that enrich the theoretical understanding of communication beyond cognitive aspects. In conclusion, educational communication contributes not only to the transmission of knowledge but also to the formation of values, critical thinking, and learner character in contemporary contexts. This study provides a theoretical contribution to the field of education by positioning educational communication as a dynamic, historically grounded, and transformative process within the development of educational science.

Abstract

This Kayu Aro Tea Plantation, located in Kerinci Regency, Jambi Province, is one of the oldest surviving Dutch colonial tea plantations that continues to operate today and possesses significant historical, social, economic, and cultural value. Nevertheless, its potential as a local history learning resource has not been optimally integrated into history education. This study aims to examine the historical values of the Kayu Aro Tea Plantation and explore its potential as a source of local history learning. The research employed a qualitative approach using historical research combined with library research. Data were collected through documentary studies of historical archives, scholarly literature, official documents, and other relevant secondary sources. Data analysis followed the stages of heuristics, source criticism, interpretation, and historiography, complemented by content analysis to identify the site's educational values. The findings reveal that the Kayu Aro Tea Plantation represents not only the development of the Dutch colonial plantation economy but also the social dynamics, labor migration, cultural acculturation, and societal transformation of the Kerinci community from the colonial era to the post-independence period. Historical remains, including the tea processing factory, Bedeng Delapan Hospital, administrators’ residences, and workers’ settlements, constitute authentic historical evidence that can serve as contextual learning resources. Integrating these heritage assets into history education enhances students’ historical thinking skills, strengthens cultural identity, fosters historical awareness, and supports the preservation of local cultural heritage. Therefore, the Kayu Aro Tea Plantation has substantial potential to be developed as a site-based history learning laboratory that promotes contextual, critical, and meaningful history education.

Abstract

Kenduri Sko is an intangible cultural heritage of the Kerinci community that embodies historical, social, religious, and educational values with significant potential as a source of history learning. However, the integration of local cultural heritage into history education remains limited, as classroom instruction continues to rely predominantly on textbooks and national historical narratives. This study aims to analyze the values embedded in the Kenduri Sko tradition and examine its potential as a history learning resource through the perspectives of ethnopedagogy and critical pedagogy. A qualitative approach employing an exploratory case study design was adopted. The research was conducted in Kerinci Regency, Jambi Province, Indonesia. Data were collected through participant observation, in-depth interviews with customary leaders and community members, and document analysis. The data were analyzed using thematic analysis involving data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings reveal that Kenduri Sko functions not only as a ritual to honor ancestors and express gratitude for agricultural harvests but also as a medium for transmitting historical knowledge, collective memory, cultural identity, and local values, including mutual cooperation, social solidarity, deliberation, responsibility, and environmental stewardship. From an ethnopedagogical perspective, the tradition provides a contextual learning resource that connects students with their local historical and cultural experiences. Furthermore, from the perspective of critical pedagogy, Kenduri Sko encourages students to develop historical consciousness, critical thinking skills, and awareness of the dynamic transformation of cultural traditions in response to modernization and globalization. This study concludes that Kenduri Sko has substantial potential to be integrated into history education through project-based learning, field studies, and oral history approaches, thereby strengthening historical literacy, character education, and the sustainable preservation of local cultural heritage.

Abstract

The illicit trafficking of narcotics constitutes an organized transnational crime that requires special investigative techniques to uncover criminal networks. One such technique is the undercover buy or controlled purchase. The problem arises because the regulation of authority concerning the use of this technique creates disharmony between the Indonesian National Police (POLRI) and the National Narcotics Agency (BNN). Law Number 35 of 2009 on Narcotics explicitly grants this authority to BNN investigators, while the authority of POLRI investigators relies more heavily on internal police regulations. This condition leads to legal uncertainty, divergent interpretations, and potential jurisdictional overlaps in investigative practice. This study aims to analyze the form of regulatory disharmony between POLRI and BNN authorities in using the undercover buy technique and to formulate a harmonization model that can strengthen legal certainty and the effectiveness of narcotics law enforcement. The research employs a normative legal method with statutory, conceptual, case, and comparative approaches. The analysis examines legislation, court decisions, legal doctrines, and relevant scientific literature. The results indicate that disharmony occurs both vertically and horizontally. Vertically, inconsistencies exist between the Narcotics Law, the Criminal Procedure Code, and the Police Law. Horizontally, the unclear relationship of authority between POLRI and BNN creates a dualism in the implementation of the undercover buy technique. Regulatory harmonization is required through norm alignment, clear delineation of authority, and the establishment of inter-agency coordination mechanisms to ensure that the implementation of special investigative techniques continues to guarantee legal certainty, justice, and the protection of human rights.
