Abstract

This community service program was implemented to enhance the competency of production operators in understanding and applying viscosity analysis to optimize the performance of positive displacement pumps in the sweetened condensed milk (SCM) production process. Based on pump performance data obtained from the production area, an increase in fluid viscosity from 1000 to 2000 cP significantly impacted flow reduction, increased motor load, decreased efficiency, and overall operational performance decline. This condition indicates the need for structured training for operators to understand the relationship between viscosity, temperature, and pump parameters. The activities conducted included theoretical training, field practice, implementation of new SOPs, and evaluation of pump performance before and after the SOP. The evaluation results showed an average pump efficiency increase of 11.4% and a motor load reduction of 12–25%, particularly under high viscosity conditions. The operator can identify the optimal viscosity, adjust the inverter frequency based on the recommendation table, and independently perform performance analysis. Thus, this program is effective in enhancing production process efficiency and strengthening human resource competencies in the sweetened condensed milk production line.

Abstract

Cepu is a sub-district in Blora Regency, Central Java Province, Indonesia. Cepu District has 17 villages/sub-districts, one of which is Ngelo Sub-district. The Cepu area is part of the Cepu Block, one of Indonesia's largest, high-yielding oil fields and a significant contributor to national production. A situational analysis indicates that the Cepu community, particularly the younger generation, has not yet utilized petroleum-derived products for entrepreneurial purposes. This problem has resulted in low levels of business activity among the Cepu community using petroleum-derived materials, such as craft products. The solution offered in this activity is training in making epoxy resin keychains using a casting method, which can be applied in entrepreneurial activities. The implementation method includes preparation, determining the best formula, training, and evaluation. The target output of this activity is the availability of craft keychains using epoxy resin, a derivative of Cepu's natural resource (petroleum), which can be used as entrepreneurial products by the Cepu community, especially the younger generation. This activity is expected to improve the competence and skills of the younger generation in Cepu in utilizing various petroleum-derived products.

Abstract

Abstract Limited water availability and the suboptimal utilization of rainwater remain major constraints in developing productive home gardens in Pematang Gubernur Village, Bengkulu City. This community service activity aims to enhance community capacity in water management through the implementation of a rainwater harvesting (RWH)-based irrigation system and to improve household yard productivity. The method employed was a Participatory Action Research (PAR) approach, consisting of problem identification, socialization, technical training, system implementation, as well as mentoring and evaluation stages. The results indicate a significant increase in planting frequency from 1.00 to 2.40 times per period (p < 0.05). In addition, there was an improvement in community knowledge, technical skills, and behavioral changes in water management and yard utilization. The implementation of the RWH system proved to provide a sustainable and low-cost alternative water source. This activity demonstrated a tangible impact on enhancing water security and yard productivity and has strong potential for replication in other areas with similar conditions.

Abstract

Drug abuse among adolescents is a critical issue that negatively affects their learning concentration, productivity, decision-making abilities, social behavior, and overall physical and mental well-being, while also increasing the risk of criminal behavior. Adequate knowledge about drugs is positively associated with adolescents’ ability to prevent drug misuse. This community service program aimed to enhance students’ knowledge and strengthen their character in preventing drug abuse through educational and interactive activities. The program targeted the eleventh-grade students of SMA Negeri 1 Kota Bengkulu, particularly class XI IPS 1. The methods applied included interactive workshops, presentations, small-group discussions, modeling, and role-playing. The activity was conducted on October 9, 2025, and was met with high enthusiasm and active participation from 30 students. Evaluation was carried out using pre-test and post-test assessments to measure changes in understanding. The results showed a significant improvement of 87% in post-test scores compared to pre-test scores, indicating an increase in students’ knowledge and capacity to recognize and prevent drug abuse. In addition to benefiting the participants, this program also helped enhance the brand image of the Faculty of Engineering, University of Bengkulu, among stakeholders. Abstract

This study aims to enhance the competitiveness of bamboo-based micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) through the development of a digital product catalog in Sugihwaras Village, Indonesia. The program was conducted using the Asset-Based Community Development (ABCD) approach, which emphasizes local potential and community participation. The intervention included product documentation, digital catalog creation, and training in digital marketing and product photography. A total of 15 MSME actors participated in the program. Quantitative findings indicate a 70% increase in participants’ understanding of digital marketing concepts and a 60% expansion in product promotion reach through online platforms. In addition, the number of product inquiries increased by approximately 45% within one month after catalog dissemination. The results demonstrate that digital catalog implementation significantly improves marketing effectiveness and strengthens business networking among MSMEs. Furthermore, this initiative contributes to sustainable local economic development by integrating community assets with digital technology. This study highlights the importance of digital transformation in empowering rural MSMEs and can serve as a replicable model for similar communities.

Abstract

The economic sector is one of the areas that has experienced a decline as a result of global conflicts. In response to this issue, Universitas Bengkulu has undertaken efforts to support community economic empowerment. It is expected that these community service activities will contribute to improving the economic capacity of local communities. One of the initiatives implemented involves the socialization, cultivation, and marketing of organic vegetables. This program aims to promote healthier lifestyles through the consumption of organic produce. In addition to the health benefits, the use of non-pesticide fertilizers can be obtained at no cost from locally available livestock manure (organic compost). Furthermore, this initiative encourages community members to engage in vegetable cultivation, as the harvest can be utilized to meet daily household needs, thereby reducing expenditures amid rising prices of essential goods. Surplus produce can also be sold, providing an additional source of income for the community.

Abstract

This activity was carried out with the aim of designing and creating a multi-purpose machine that can carry out the cassava cutting and drying process in an integrated manner in one system. The development of this tool was motivated by the needs of home industry players to increase work efficiency and production capacity, especially in processing cassava into chips. The methodology applied includes the Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DFMA) approach, the implementation of Standard Operational Procedures (SOP). The Cassava Slicing and Drying Machine in One Series resulted in a prototype machine with a 1:2 ratio of the original design. The main components made were a container with a capacity of 3 kg, a drying tube with a capacity of 3 kg so that it can make cassava slices with a consistent thickness of 1 mm and immediately dry them for 10 to 15 minutes through a heating system.

Abstract

The increasing demand for energy, driven by population growth and economic activities, necessitates the utilization of sustainable alternative energy sources. New and Renewable Energy (NRE) has become one of the key solutions to reduce dependence on depleting fossil fuels, which also have negative impacts on the environment. This community service activity aims to enhance public knowledge and understanding of alternative energy utilization based on NRE through the application of appropriate technology. The methods employed include community outreach, educational sessions, and simple demonstrations of alternative energy technologies. The activity was conducted in Sawah Lebar Baru Subdistrict, Ratu Agung District, Bengkulu City, which is one of the two assisted areas of the Faculty of Engineering, University of Bengkulu. The results indicate an improvement in community understanding of alternative energy concepts as well as an increased interest in adopting simple technologies such as biogas, biomass, and solar energy. Therefore, this activity is expected to promote community energy independence and resilience, support sustainable development at the local level, and contribute to the government’s national energy security program.
