Abstract

Stakeholder involvement is the key to the strength of the institution. A village institution with many programs that are the focus of many parties become the center of attention of the entire community, the skill of head of the village (HOV) in appreciating figures who are interested in a program is the key to the success of the program runs and they appreciate the leadership of HOV. An affair has two types of figures, traditional (known before) and emerging (unknown before). As a result of information searching does not cover both it may become an obstacle for a program to be implemented perfectly. Either a strategy of searching covering information or appreciation strategy to both figures is discussed.

Abstract

Creative thinking can be fostered through simple things, such as handicrafts. Creative thinking can be fostered through simple things, such as handicrafts. Crafts can be interpreted as the result of a skill or craft that utilizes materials around us. One of the easiest handicrafts that can be done is making bags from paper. Paper bags are currently trending in Indonesia, especially in Bengkulu as a response to global warming. Problems identified among partners include ignorance in making paper bags, lack of packaging innovation. This community service aims to improve understanding of the use and management of paper bag businesses. The action steps that will be implemented are: 1) action preparation, 2) paper bag production training, and 3) monitoring and evaluation. Training is carried out using the sampling method and direct training for partners. The evaluation results show that the partners' understanding and skills have increased by an average of 45%. The partners already have an understanding and skills in the production and management of paper bag businesses.

Abstract

Rural areas far from the city, people with less than average income have the right to get adequate sources of electrical energy. The availability of electricity is compulsory for economic productivity, supporting education and health. The construction of piko-hydroelectric power plant is one solution for this purpose. The advantages are affordable construction and maintenance costs as well as transferable technology to villagers. The object of devotion in Batulayang Village is technology transfer to the community. This activity received a response and enthusiasm from residents and the local administrator.

Abstract

By request of the residents of the Neighborhood-30 in the Urban-village Sawah Lebar Baru Bengkulu City, making compost to household organic waste by using the EM4 bio activator was completed. Employing small volume what so called composter bag, the waste was collected in the bag after one pile the bio activator was poured over and so after another. This technique makes a composting time reduced. This transfer of knowledge to the residents about making compost and the benefit of compost made them motivated to manage household waste separately since their houses.

Abstract

Waste management must be the responsibility of citizens and the government. The government's task is to activate citizen participation up to household level by having sufficient knowledge e.g. socialization of 3R concept (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) in handling the waste. The Reduce is about the impact of waste on life by that the community minimizes the use of goods that can produce waste. The reuse concept is about to utilize waste for other uses. The Recycle is about to recycle the waste to other goods e.g. by composting to produce fertilizer in a small space, simple equipment, and very low costs. Compost production by using a composter bag sprayed by composter fluid is called as the artificial compost. To introduce the system to the community, the training on how to make deal with it is pursued in RT.33 RW.8, Sawah Lebar Village, Bengkulu City, involving the local administrators and housewives. The method is learning by doing under supervising of a community service team of the Engineering Faculty Universitas Bengkulu.

Abstract

The Magnus effect is about the formation of pressure difference around a cylindrical or spherical projectile rotating in the flow of fluid. This difference causes forces acting on the projectile changing the direction of the projectile movement. Little understanding to Magnus effect concept is necessary for every activist in the sport area playing with ball. Discussing about the Magnus effect for the direction case of the ball in table tennis made them interested, e.g. the cases of empty shots, top spin, back spin, and side spin each produces different ball direction characteristics.

Abstract

English language learning at an early age plays an important role in children's cognitive, social and emotional development. This article evaluates the impact of teaching English through varied and interactive methods, such as educational games, songs, and creative activities, conducted on weekends. Based on observation and documentation, it was found that these methods significantly improved children's understanding of English vocabulary and structures, as well as strengthened their thinking, memory and problem-solving skills. In addition to cognitive benefits, English language teaching also supports the development of social skills by improving children's communication and collaboration abilities. Despite challenges such as the need for more diverse materials and adjustments to methods, adaptive approaches and the use of technology can improve learning effectiveness. The findings emphasize the importance of English language learning at an early age to prepare children for a connected global environment.

Abstract

The growing population and changing consumption patterns in Bengkulu City have led to an increase in waste volume, posing environmental pollution risks affecting soil, water, and air. As a solution, the SEHATI Central Waste Bank implements a structured, community-based waste management approach that involves waste collection, sorting, processing, and recycling of both organic and inorganic waste. This initiative is supported by a digital application that streamlines waste management processes, ensures transaction transparency, and enhances incentives for participating community members. The application also provides education on the importance of 3RB (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, Benefit), aiming to reduce waste ending up in landfills. Community service results show that the use of this digital application not only increases community participation in waste sorting and management but also effectively reduces environmental pollution. The SEHATI Waste Bank has successfully promoted environmental sustainability through a circular economy that supports sustainable waste management.

Abstract

Coconut shell waste has not been utilized into useful ones. Its condition is a potential problem for the environment. Coconut shells can be made into charcoal using a retort. Training on making charcoal from coconut shells in a retort furnace was given to community groups in Sawah Lebar Baru, Bengkulu City. The activity includes several stages: observation, preparation, implementation and evaluation of the activities carried out. The implementation involved lecturers and students from the Mechanical Engineering Study Program, Faculty of Engineering, University of Bengkulu. Participants from the community were quite helped by the presence of students so that they were very enthusiastic and played an active role during the activity. At the evaluation stage, an assessment was given to participants in two stages, pre-test and post-test. The assessment results showed that the activity was able to increase participants' understanding of the material from 52% to 80%.

Abstract

Engine oil is widely found in the remote village in many types of oil for engines. The more alternative engine oil products there are, the more choices of engine oil that are appropriate, correct, valid, and ideal. Many standards are referred such as SAE, API Service, and JASO. Buyers are not free to choose engine oil according to their wishes. Apart from that, there are also many fake engine oils circulating. Therefore, efforts are needed to overcome this problem. One way is to provide basic knowledge and understanding to villagers in choosing valid and correct types of engine oil based on engine characteristic specifications. The selection of valid and correct engine oil according to engine specifications in order to prevent and maintain engines from damage is the focus of community service. Strategies and methods in selecting valid and correct engine oil according to specifications are solutions in maintaining and caring for engines
