Abstract

In light of the considerable number of cases documented on an annual basis, autism spectrum disorder (ASD) has emerged as a condition with a rising prevalence in recent times. There is a greater prevalence of ASD in males than in females, both in terms of overall incidence and the presentation of symptoms. Additionally, males with ASD tend to exhibit more functional impairments and repetitive behaviors. To gain a deeper understanding of these variations, further research is required. The principal objective of this study is to ascertain whether there are gender disparities in the frequency and symptoms of autism spectrum disorders in Malaysia. The Malay translation of the Autism Spectrum Quotient – Children's Version and the Children's Autism Spectrum Test have been completed by parents or caregivers of fifty-two children between the ages of seven and twelve who have been diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). The current research indicates that, in terms of prevalence, there is a ratio of 1:5 in favor of males over females. However, no clear differences were observed between the sexes in terms of ASD symptoms in this study group. Significant advances in the prevention or treatment of autism spectrum disorders in men and women can be achieved through systematic efforts to understand gender differences in the prevalence and symptoms of these diseases in Malaysia.

Abstract

Academic burnout is a significant issue among students, characterized by emotional exhaustion, depersonalization, and feelings of incompetence in academic tasks, often caused by chronic stress. The relevance of this issue is highlighted by the role of peer social support and resilience as independent variables influencing academic burnout. This study aims to evaluate the relationship between peer social support and resilience on academic burnout among students. The research sample consisted of 381 students selected through quota sampling. Data were collected using Likert scales, including scales for academic burnout, peer social support, and resilience. The analysis results show a correlation coefficient rx12y of 0.354 with a significance of 0.001 (p<0.01), and an effective contribution of 12.5%, indicating a significant relationship between peer social support and resilience on academic burnout. Further analysis shows that peer social support has a significant positive correlation with academic burnout (rx1y = 0.348, p<0.01), while resilience does not show a significant relationship with academic burnout (rx2y = 0.134, p>0.05). In conclusion, peer social support is significantly associated with academic burnout, while resilience does not have a significant impact. These results indicate that academic pressure and heavy workloads influencing academic burnout. Additionally, social pressure and competition within the educational system can also affect the levels of academic burnout. Universities need to develop intervention programs that not only focus on social support and resilience but also on stress and time management skills for their students.

Abstract

The period of adolescence is often characterised by emotional agitation, creating a vulnerability to the influence of the surrounding environment. Adolescents frequently lack the capacity to recognise, regulate and control their emotions, which can result in social difficulties. This indicates that adolescents exhibit a deficiency in emotional intelligence. To fulfil their emotional intelligence, adolescence is influenced by a variety of factors, including the role of parents. Parents, as the primary figure in the care of adolescents, have a significant role in the development of adolescent emotional intelligence. The involvement of fathers in parenting is an important factor to consider when examining the relationship between fathers and their children in the context of emotional intelligence development. This study aims to determine the effect of perceived father involvement in parenting on adolescents' emotional intelligence. The research method was correlational research, conducted on a sample of 180 adolescents in Indonesia, aged between 13 and 18 years. A convenience sampling technique was used for the selection of participants. The father's involvement scale consists of 27 items with an alpha coefficient of 0.959, while the emotional intelligence scale consists of 12 items with a coefficient of 0.868. In this study, the hypothesis test is a simple linear regression analysis, using JASP 0.18.3 software. The findings of this study evidenced a significant influence between adolescents' perceptions of father involvement and their emotional intelligence. Furthermore, this study emphasises that adolescents with divorced parents have positive perceptions of father involvement and their emotional intelligence.

Abstract

Some adolescents demonstrate a deficiency in awareness regarding mental health. This deficit in knowledge is attributable to a lack of mental health literacy. The objective of this research is to ascertain the efficacy of psychoeducation in enhancing mental health literacy among teenagers belonging to the Karang Taruna organisation. Eighteen participants were selected using a purposive sampling technique, with the criteria being young men or women who were members of Karang Taruna. The methodology employed in this study is a quasi-experimental design with a one-group pretest-posttest. The results of the data analysis, conducted using the Paired Sample T-test, indicating a statistically significant difference between the pretest and posttest results. The results demonstrated a notable increase in scores from the pretest to the posttest following the administration of psychoeducation. This outcome substantiates the efficacy of psychoeducation in enhancing public awareness about mental health literacy. It is anticipated that by fostering mental health literacy, individuals will be better equipped to identify, comprehend, and avert issues pertaining to mental health.
