Abstract

This paper will focus on news on dream.co.id and tribunnews.com, which contain the keyword “widow”, for the period June 2023. This research aims to reveal the construction of reality in news stories about widows in online media. By using Sara Mills' critical analysis, which emphasizes two aspects, namely the position of the subject-object and the position of the reader, The method used in this research is qualitative, which is descriptive in nature. Women are often in the news with a gender construct. The clickbait-based news search system contributes to the perpetuation of stereotypes against widows in online media. These stereotypes portray widows as sensual, helpless objects who are in need of pity and are easily deceived by men, primarily because they are unable to engage in self-reflection.

Abstract

This study evaluates the representation of postmodernist values in Bank Central Asia's (BCA) "Don’t Know? Kasih No!" campaign, which aims to strengthen public awareness regarding online fraud. Employing a quantitative content analysis method based on Holsti's formula, the research quantifies and analyzes the frequency of audio-visual elements within YouTube videos, encompassing dialogue, music, and transitions. In parallel, the campaign's posters are deconstructed using Roland Barthes's semiotic. Findings indicate a consistent and recurrent audio-visual narrative strategy that directs towards preventive actions against online fraud, while the semiotic analysis of posters reveals how design elements strategically create myths that endorse a critical and prudent stance within an urban environment. Overall, the campaign reflects BCA’s success in implementing postmodernist principles and highlighting the significant role of dynamic and contemporary visual communication in the digital era.

Abstract

Marlina the Murderer in Four Rounds is a movie released in Indonesia in 2017. Directed by Mouly Surya, this film became one of those that received a lot of attention at various international film festivals. The movie tells the story of a young widow who is left in the interior of the Indonesian island of Sumba. One night, a group of criminals come to her house to seize her property and rape her. This movie is not only about Marlina's struggle against oppressors and injustice but also about women's empowerment in the face of difficult and harsh situations. This research aims to find out the meaning of denotation, connotation, and myth that represent sexual violence from the perspective of fashion. The research method used in this study utilizes Roland Barthes' semiotic analysis in examining the nonverbal messages of fashion. The results of the research show that in the movie Marlina the Killer in Four Rounds denotatively, acts of sexual violence experienced by women cause loss and suffering; connotatively, victims of sexual violence are powerless against the perpetrators; and mythically sexual violence often occurs in the closest relationships, namely dating and households. Not only that, sexual violence occurs when there are many people in the victim's house.

Abstract

Travelio is one of the start-up companies that frequently receives various negative comments on booking applications after providing services to consumers. This research attempts to identify the actions and communication responses of Travelio in managing negative comments. Using a case study method, this research collects data through observation, interviews, and literature review. The findings show that in managing negative comments, Travelio applies the concept of communication management, done through various phases. The communication actions and responses done are relevant to encountered conditions, namely using a proactive strategy and a reactive strategy approach. A specific approach is done towards interpersonal communication, advertising, and promotional media. Proactive strategy (organizational performance, audience participation, special events, alliances, and coalitions). Reactive strategy (defensive response strategies: (justification), vocal commiseration response strategies: apology, rectifying behavior response strategies: corrective action, diversionary response strategies: providing compensation after going through various steps (a) concession, (b) ingratiation, (c) disassociation.

Abstract

In today's digital era, where everything moves and changes rapidly, the media in its journalistic work, is under demands that it must be able to provide information about events or occurrences as quickly as possible. The digitalization of conventional media opens up the possibility of media convergence which will impact not only the media industry but also changes in media consumption patterns, public perception, information dissemination, and media literacy. The incident of stalking of the Deputy Attorney General for Special Crimes (Jampidsus) carried out by members of Counterterrorism Special Detachment 88 Indonesian National Police was revealed by the media who were unable to fully explain the background and how the incident occurred. Tribunnews.com has footage, but the media did not publish the news related to this incident because of difficulties for the media to carry out verification. This research highlights reporting by Kompas.com and Tribunnews.com, two online media that are members of the Kompas Gramedia Media Group, using descriptive qualitative research methods with an approach to media political theory and media management related to reporting on the feud between the Attorney General's Office and the National Police.

Abstract

This research concerns the framing of Pertamina Plumpang Depot fire news on CNNIndonesia.com and Republika.co.id on 3-10 March 2023. The research used a qualitative method with framing theories. The data analyses in this research are conducted by using Pan and Kosicki's framing analysis model, which is based on four structures, namely syntactic, script, thematic, and rhetoric. The results of the research have shown that CNNIndonesia.com and Republika.co.id have differences in framing the news of the 2023 Pertamina Plumpang Depot fire. CNNIndonesia.com frames the news by criticizing the government for the location of the fire that claimed many victims, which was the result of the government's indecisiveness and negligence, as well as the reactive solutions taken by Pertamina. CNN Indonesia prioritizes the value of independence in its news content without any vested interests. Meanwhile, Republika.co.id frames the news by focusing on efforts taken by the government and Pertamina. Republika has not been able to fully maintain independence in its news reporting because the media is involved in the vested interests of its owner.

Abstract

Tulisan ini membahas penggunaan virtual set dalam penyelenggaraan Masa Pengenalan Lingkungan Sekolah (MPLS) di SMK Negeri 2 Pati sebagai respons terhadap pandemi COVID-19. Teknologi virtual set memungkinkan acara dilaksanakan secara virtual dengan cara yang menarik dan efisien, menawarkan pengalaman baru bagi peserta didik baru. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif deskriptif dengan metode studi kasus, melibatkan observasi dan wawancara mendalam. Hasil menunjukkan bahwa penggunaan virtual set meningkatkan efisiensi produksi, mengurangi kebutuhan ruang fisik, dan memungkinkan eksplorasi kreatif dalam penyajian konten. Namun, tantangan teknis seperti kebutuhan pencahayaan yang tepat dan keterampilan operator yang memadai tetap ada. Implementasi virtual set membuka peluang pengembangan lebih lanjut untuk acara sekolah lainnya, seperti wisuda dan pentas seni. Evaluasi pelaksanaan dan umpan balik sangat penting untuk perbaikan berkelanjutan. Secara keseluruhan, penggunaan virtual set dalam MPLS Virtual di SMK Negeri 2 Pati membuktikan bahwa teknologi dapat menjadi solusi efektif selama pandemi, memberikan pengalaman menarik dan berkesan bagi peserta didik baru, meskipun memerlukan peningkatan kompetensi teknis dan pengelolaan sumber daya untuk keberhasilan jangka panjang.

Abstract

This research examines the use of the YouTube account "Ahmad Dhani in the News" as a means of rhetorical communication in the conflict regarding copyright between Ahmad Dhani and Once Mekel. This research mainly analyzes how Ahmad Dhani uses social media to convey persuasive messages, summons, and mediate about the conflict. Apart from that, this research also applies pentad drama studies to understand how drama elements such as actors, action, and setting are used in Dhani's video content to strengthen the narrative and arguments conveyed. The research results show that Dhani strategically utilizes rhetorical techniques to shape public opinion and clarify his position in the conflict, while the dramatic structure in his podcast strengthens the dramatic impression and his role in the narrative. These findings are expected to provide insight into the dynamics of digital communication in copyright conflicts as well as the dramatic strategies used in social media.

Abstract

This study examines the phenomenon of cyberactivism through the four-finger movement in the 2024 Indonesian elections. In the 2024 elections, the four-finger symbol emerges as a significant form of political expression, signifying solidarity and resistance against certain candidates and depicting support for others. This research utilizes content analysis and social network analysis methods to reveal how this symbolism is used on social platforms and how it influences the formation of public opinion and election outcomes. The study evaluates the effectiveness of cyberactivism in Indonesian politics, highlighting the use of the four-finger symbol as a visual identification tool that strengthens solidarity and campaign coordination. The conclusions of this study indicate that social media and symbols like the four-finger movement play a critical role in facilitating political action, demonstrating the continuously adapting dynamics of politics to new technologies.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to describe the readability of TB educational articles from the Indonesian Ministry of Health. TB educational articles are an effort to improve health literacy among health workers which is still low. For this reason, the formulation of this research problem is to find out the level of readability of three educational articles on handling tuberculosis disease at www.kemkes.go.id for the 2023 period using the Flesch reading ease formula and the cloze procedure. The concepts used include Shannon and Weaver's information theory, readability theory, and health education articles. This research is a descriptive type of quantitative research. The method used is readability with the Flesch reading ease formula and cloze procedure. Respondents were selected from health workers because they are the parties involved in handling TB disease. The results showed that the readability level of three articles with flesch reading was very difficult, with scores between -49.965 and -17.378. The low readability of the articles is thought to be due to the incompatibility of the reading language with the formula used. In comparison, the level of readability with the cloze procedure shows a very easy category with a score between 665 and 694. This means that the reading is very easy for health workers to understand in general. Some factors affect their readability level, including gender, experience with reading material, and respondents' knowledge of the use of the Indonesian language in reading.
