Abstract

This research aims to analyze the campaign strategy of Tri Rismaharini and Zahrul Azhar in the 2024 East Java gubernatorial election that targets the teacher community in Surabaya. Using a qualitative case study approach, data were collected through in-depth interviews, document studies, and literature review. The research used cybernetics theory and the campaign model as a research framework. The findings reveal that the Risma–Zahrul campaign strategy combined traditional and digital media, strengthened emotional engagement through social activities, and created two-way communication that enhanced public participation. The study also highlights the active role of teachers as key intermediaries in spreading political messages and building public trust. Based on the findings, it recommends several efforts to strengthen local democracy, including a more intensive dialogue between candidates, the election committee, and educational communities, as well as a school-based political education program and community-driven campaign model.

Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

This study discusses the phenomenon of overtourism in Bali, which has gained public attention due to increased media coverage of its impact on the environment, culture, and local communities. This study aims to determine the position of Generation Z readers' interpretation of the framing of overtourism reporting in the local media, BaliPost, from July to December 2024. BaliPost's reporting is interesting to study because it illustrates how regional media interpret tourism issues in their own region. This study uses a qualitative approach with Robert N. Entman's framing analysis method to examine BaliPost's framing of the overtourism issue, as well as Stuart Hall's reception analysis to understand how Generation Z interprets the news coverage. The results show that BaliPost frames overtourism as a governance issue that must be addressed through strict regulations, protection of local communities, and sustainable spatial management. In audience reception, the tendency is toward a dominant-hegemonic position and a negotiating position, while no meaning is found in the opposition position. This absence is influenced by the dominance of Balinese cultural influences and Hindu beliefs that emphasize social harmony and life balance.

Abstract

This research is about the meaning of loss represented in the lyrics of the song “Lihat Kebunku (Taman Bunga)” by Aku Jeje and how this meaning is interpreted by Generation Z audiences, with the purpose of analyzing the reception of Generation Z audiences toward the meaning of loss in the song lyrics through Stuart Hall’s reception analysis approach. This research is motivated by the increasing consumption of emotionally themed music among Generation Z, which is often used as a medium for reflecting personal experiences of loss in daily life. The method used is a qualitative approach. The analysis is conducted using Roland Barthes’ semiotic theory to identify denotative, connotative, and myth meanings in the song lyrics. In addition, Stuart Hall’s reception analysis is used to understand the audience’s decoding positions. The data were collected through lyric text analysis and interviews with Generation Z informants. The results show that the meaning of loss in the song lyrics is constructed through a series of sign relations that describe emotional attachment, relational change, and the process of accepting separation. The meaning is interpreted as relational loss in individual life experiences. The reception results show variations of interpretation categorized into dominant hegemonic position and negotiated position. These differences are influenced by personal experiences, emotional conditions, and social backgrounds of each informant. This study confirms that meaning in lyrics is not fixed. Meaning is constructed through the interaction between text and audience experience in the decoding process.
