Abstract

This research aims to explore the impact of social media on Indonesian culture through a literature study approach. In the increasingly digital context of Indonesia, social media has a significant influence on various aspects of social, cultural, and economic life. This study highlights both the positive and negative impacts of social media. On the positive side, social media has become an important tool for expressing cultural identity, promoting cultural heritage, and fostering cultural diplomacy. Platforms like Instagram and TikTok provide space for the younger generation in Indonesia to share traditional cultural practices and strengthen pride and attachment to local culture. However, negative impacts also emerge, such as the spread of false information that can lead to social fragmentation, hatred, and discrimination. Additionally, changes in language and communication styles influenced by social media raise concerns about the preservation of more traditional Indonesian languages and cultures. This research also emphasizes the role of social media in marketing and consumer behavior, as well as how it can accelerate the digital divide in Indonesia. The study concludes that while social media offers many benefits, significant challenges in managing its negative effects, such as misinformation and social pressure, must be addressed. This research provides valuable insights into understanding the dynamics of Indonesian culture in the digital era and the importance of a balanced strategy in leveraging social media for social and cultural progress.

Abstract

This study examines the role of advertising in shaping social perceptions and reinforcing existing social inequalities in society. In an increasingly digitally connected context, advertising functions not only as a tool for promoting products but also as a cultural force that influences public views on gender, social class, race, and ethnicity. This literature review aims to analyze how advertising creates, strengthens, or even challenges social stereotypes and prevailing norms. Based on a literature review methodology, this research collects and analyzes various relevant academic literatures, including journals, books, and articles that discuss the impact of advertising on social perceptions across different cultural and geographical contexts. The findings show that advertising often reinforces traditional gender stereotypes, portrays social class in a reductive manner, and strengthens racial hierarchies in society. However, on the other hand, there are also efforts to challenge these stereotypes through more inclusive advertising campaigns, such as femvertising. This study also highlights how social media is increasingly playing an important role in shaping narratives about social status and consumer identity. Overall, the findings suggest that advertising not only reflects but also shapes social values and norms, thus having a significant impact on the formation of social inequalities. This research is expected to provide insights for the development of more ethical and diversity-oriented advertising policies and practices

Abstract

This study examines the influence of visual aesthetics on Instagram in shaping social identity and user behavior, with a focus on how the visual standards on this platform affect how individuals express themselves. Using a literature review method, this research gathers and analyzes various relevant sources, including academic articles, journals, and previous research reports, to explore the impact of visual aesthetics on Instagram users. The main findings of this study show that the visual aesthetics on Instagram, which often create idealized representations of the self, play a significant role in the formation of individual social identity. Users, especially younger ones, are frequently influenced by the beauty standards and lifestyles promoted by influencers, reinforcing the tendency to compare themselves with more "perfect" images. This can negatively impact mental health, such as increasing anxiety and body dissatisfaction. However, this research also finds that the platform offers space for more inclusive self-expression, particularly for marginalized groups, such as the LGBTQ+ community and specific ethnic groups, who use Instagram to showcase their cultural identities. This study highlights the importance of awareness of the influence of visual aesthetics on social media in shaping self-perception and social relationships, as well as the need for a more sensitive approach to diversity in the use of digital platforms

Abstract

This article discusses the phenomenon of cultural appropriation in the context of globalization, focusing on its impact on marginalized groups and the tensions that arise between appreciation and exploitation of cultural elements. Through a literature review, the article examines how cultural appropriation practices lead to commodification, distortion, and the erasure of the original cultural meaning, as well as their effects on the identity and psychological well-being of the affected groups. The study shows that globalization, while enabling cultural exchange between countries and communities, often reinforces power imbalances, where dominant cultures take cultural elements from marginalized groups without respecting their original context or values. This phenomenon not only contributes to the loss of cultural identity but also increases feelings of alienation and devaluation among the affected individuals. The article also discusses the importance of culturally responsive education and cultural humility as efforts to mitigate the negative impacts of cultural appropriation. In the social context, cultural justice should be seen as an integral part of a larger social movement, aimed at providing space for marginalized cultural narratives and promoting respect for cultural diversity. The findings of this research emphasize that a critical understanding of cultural appropriation, with an awareness of imbalances and historical contextualization, is crucial in creating a more just society that values cultural diversity.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the strengthening of the Islamic philanthropy ecosystem through collaboration between media, Islamic institutions, and society, with a focus on the role of media in reinforcing Islamic philanthropic values in the digital age. In this context, both traditional and digital media are identified as highly influential forces in expanding reach and encouraging public participation in philanthropic activities. However, this study also highlights the primary challenge of misrepresenting the principles of Islamic philanthropy in mainstream media, which often obscures the public’s understanding of the broader characteristics and goals of charity in Islam beyond just financial donations. The study employs a qualitative approach using a literature review method, analyzing various related literature such as scholarly articles, research reports, and books on Islamic philanthropy, media, and community involvement. This research also explores the potential of social media as a tool to broaden the reach of philanthropy, particularly among the youth, as well as the importance of transparency and accountability in digital-based philanthropic campaigns. The findings of this research suggest that effective collaboration between media, Islamic institutions, and society can create a greater social impact, raise awareness about the importance of philanthropy, and increase participation in charitable activities. However, to achieve these goals, the use of media must be done wisely and ethically, with a focus on creating authentic narratives and managing transparency. This study provides new insights into how such collaboration can strengthen the Islamic philanthropy ecosystem in the modern era.
