Abstract

This research explores interfaith harmony in Pengulon Village, Buleleng Regency, Bali, which consists of three banjars: Tegalantang (majority Muslim), Bukit Sari, and Munduk Sari (majority Hindu). Using a qualitative approach, this research explores the tolerance that exists, especially when Galungan Day matches the preparation for the Prophet Muhammad's birthday. Data were obtained through interviews, observation, and documentation. The results showed that the Pengulon Village community was able to maintain harmony. Muslims can still carry out worship, recitation, and Maulid preparations calmly, while Hindus celebrate Galungan without obstacles. This tolerance is supported by mutual respect and good communication

Abstract

The phenomenon of Pancen tradition in Templek Hamlet, Sumberduren Village, Kediri Regency, is a cultural practice preserved by the santri community as a form of respect for deceased ancestors. This tradition attracts attention because it survives in the midst of a majority Muslim community that is obedient, even though the practice of Pancen itself is not regulated in Islamic teachings. By referring to Peter L. Berger's social construction theory, this study aims to analyze how the people of Templek Hamlet construct and internalize the meaning of Pancen through the processes of externalization, objectification, and internalization. This study also clarifies the role of religious leaders and village elders in strengthening the sustainability of the tradition through social legitimacy and inter-generational learning. The results show that the Pancen tradition has been successfully maintained because it has been internalized as a sacred cultural identity and is seen as in line with local Islamic values. Through social construction, the Pancen tradition is not only a ritual of respect for ancestors but also functions as a social binder that strengthens inter-citizen relations and family ties in the Templek Hamlet community

Abstract

The rise of religious radicalism among teenagers has become a significant concern in recent years. Due to their vulnerability and susceptibility to influence, this age group is often targeted by radical groups. Factors like the search for identity, social isolation, and exposure to misinformation on social media contribute to their susceptibility. This research aims to examine the causes, impacts, and strategies for addressing religious radicalism among teenagers, utilizing qualitative methods such as interviews, surveys, and literature analysis. The research results show that factors such as a lack of comprehensive understanding of religion, the influence of the social environment, and access to radical information through social media contribute significantly to the spread of radicalism. To prevent the spread of radical ideas among teenagers, this research recommends several strategies, such as strengthening moderate religious education, character development programs, and increasing awareness of the dangers of radicalization through social campaigns. It's essential for parents, educators, and society to work together to foster values of tolerance and peace. This study emphasizes that prevention efforts should include inclusive education, digital literacy, and psychosocial support from families and communities. The findings aim to inform preventive policies that protect the younger generation from radical influences.

Abstract

In many developing democracies, prior to the internet and social media, people living abroad had limited opportunities to engage in their home countries' democratic processes. Existing literature mostly addresses remittances, economic impacts, immigration laws, and the challenges faced by migrants. This paper reassesses the political contributions of the diaspora to the democratic development of their home countries. It explored how technology, particularly the Internet, aided the diaspora in sending uncensored messages to their home countries during electioneering campaigns and voting in countries. Despite being legally barred from voting while abroad, citizens in the diaspora use social media to influence elections and political opinions in their home countries. This paper highlights how diaspora engagement through social media shaped voting behavior and affected election outcomes in Nigeria and other nations between 2019 and 2024. Unfortunately, many developing democracies still do not allow their citizens living abroad to vote, limiting their participation despite their significant contributions.

Abstract

This research uses the sociology of religion to study radicalization and de-radicalization in Indonesia. The research focuses on the church bombings in Surabaya in 2018. This research uses a qualitative methodology, collecting data from related literature, previous studies, and other articles. This research aims to identify religious, social, and cultural elements that encourage individuals or groups to engage in extremist acts and evaluate how effective deradicalization efforts have been after the event. The results show that radicalization in Indonesia is often influenced by a combination of internal factors, such as socio-economic marginalization and narrow religious interpretations, and external factors, such as radical ideologies spread through social networks. Meanwhile, deradicalization, which involves interfaith dialogue, critical education, and social reintegration, shows different results depending on the approach and social context. This research provides a new perspective on how religion contributes to radicalization and deradicalization, as well as how it impacts extremism prevention policies and tactics in Indonesia

Abstract

The 2024 Election Jingle "Choosing for Indonesia" is used by the Surabaya City General Election Commission (KPU) as a means of communication to support the Election's spirit. This study aims to understand the construction of the jingle playback in the internal environment of the Surabaya City KPU through a phenomenological approach and Peter L. Berger's social construction theory. The study examines three main stages—externalization, objectification, and internalization—regarding how a jingle is a communication and motivational tool. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation from four informants at the Surabaya City KPU. The jingle playback illustrates a social construction process, with regular playbacks promoting democratic values similar to religious teachings.Objectification occurs as the jingle integrates into organizational culture, symbolizing collective identity and shared values, much like religious symbols in people's lives. Internalization is reflected in individuals' varying interpretations of the jingle, inspiring some to conform to its message while others engage differently. This process highlights how values of fairness and participation are embedded in personal and organizational identities. Regularly playing the jingle at 10 am and 3 pm boosts enthusiasm, awareness of democratic principles, and solidarity among KPU employees, similar to how religious rituals reinforce commitment to moral values.

Abstract

Ning Ita's success in leading the city of Mojokerto for two periods is an interesting phenomenon in political sociology, especially in the context of political communication and leadership image formation. Leaders who can build effective communication tend to gain strong legitimacy from the community, thereby maintaining the sustainability of their leadership. This study aims to analyze Ning Ita's political communication strategy and its contribution to a positive image among the public. Using the theory of political communication as a foundation, the research was conducted with a qualitative approach through documentation studies and in-depth interviews for comprehensive data. The results showed that Ning Ita implemented a systematic communication strategy through mass media, social media, and direct interaction with the community. Consistency in delivering clear, transparent, and participatory political messages is the main factor shaping his image as a responsive, innovative, and close to the People leader. Effective political communication has an impact on increasing public confidence and political stability, favoring the sustainability of its leadership. In conclusion, political communication is not just a tool to deliver policies, but a strategic element to build an image of sustainable leadership and strengthen the relationship between leaders and society

Abstract

This study analyzes the political impact of the allocation of grant funds from the Bojonegoro Regency Government to the Lamongan Regency Government, as well as its implications on inter- regional relations and regional cooperation. The main focus of this study is to understand the dynamics of power, political interests, and socio-economic factors that affect the effectiveness of such cooperation. Using qualitative approaches and case study methods, data was collected through in-depth interviews with stakeholders as well as analysis of policy documents, financial statements, and media reports. The theoretical framework used is Resource Interdependence and Rational Choice Theory. The findings of the study show that the allocation of grant funds can strengthen the relationship between the regions, increase the political legitimacy of Bojonegoro, but also cause political jealousy in Lamongan, and increase the dependence of the region. Transparency and accountability in the management of grant funds are important factors in the success of the cooperation. Overall, for grants to deliver optimal benefits, transparent, accountable, and participatory mechanisms are needed, as well as a clear understanding of shared goals. The theory of resource interdependence and rational choice helps explain how political and economic interests influence cooperation decisions between regions

Abstract

Public debate is one of the important means in the democratic process, especially in regional head elections (Pilkada), where the public can directly assess the vision and mission of candidate leaders. In the Rembang Pilkada, public debate played a significant role in increasing public political awareness and influencing voter rationality. This study aims to analyze the impact of public debate on increasing public political understanding and how it influences voters' rational decisions in choosing regional head candidates. The method used in this study is a qualitative approach with in-depth interviews and surveys of a number of voters in Rembang. The results of the study indicate that public debate can increase voter knowledge about political issues and programs of regional head candidates. However, despite the increase in political awareness, many voters still tend to vote based on emotional factors or social identity rather than rational considerations of the quality of the candidate's program. This study suggests the importance of holding more in-depth and informative debates in order to increase voter rationality in choosing regional head candidates.
