Abstract

In the context of the gubernatorial election in East Java, this study examines how the political choices of the public are influenced by money politics. Money politics in a democratic system often affects voters' decisions, raising concerns about the integrity and quality of the electoral process. This research employs a qualitative approach through in-depth interviews and surveys to explore how voters react to offers of money politics and the consequences for their attitudes and behaviors when casting their votes. The study finds that although many voters are aware of the negative impacts of money politics, many accept the proposals due to economic reasons and pressing needs. Furthermore, the practice of money-focused politics often diverts voters' attention from candidates' goals and visions to the financial incentives offered. The findings of this research emphasize that, to ensure fairer and higher-quality elections in the future, voter education and strengthened regulations are necessary to combat the practice of money politics.

Abstract

The phenomenon of dawn attacks in the 2024 Regional Head Election (Pilkada) in Lamongan Regency represents a tangible form of transactional political culture that has been institutionalized in local democratic practices. This article aims to examine the dawn attack not just as a violation of election laws but as a social practice that reflects the reproduction of patronage between the political elite and the voting community. This study employs a qualitative approach with a case study design, collecting data through in-depth interviews, participatory observations, and document analysis from election organizers, winning teams, and Lamongan residents. The results indicate that dawn attacks are facilitated through robust social networks, where patron-client relationships play a crucial role in exchanging economic resources for political support. The practice is rooted in reciprocity and social norms that justify giving money as a form of political solidarity. As a result, the dawn attack not only perpetuates power inequality but also reduces the meaning of democratic participation to pragmatic economic relations. These findings confirm that local democracy in Lamongan is still colored by a patronage culture that continues to be reproduced through social, symbolic, and structural mechanisms

Abstract

This study investigates how employee participation in decision-making and psychological ownership influence knowledge sharing, with organizational commitment as a mediating factor in the Gambia Civil Aviation Authority. Addressing knowledge management challenges and limited empirical research in The Gambia, it explores how engagement and ownership enhance knowledge sharing through stronger commitment. Using a quantitative approach, structured questionnaires were distributed to staff, and data were analyzed through structural equation modeling to test direct and mediated relationships. The results show that both participation in decision-making and psychological ownership significantly and positively affect organizational commitment and knowledge sharing. Furthermore, organizational commitment enhances knowledge sharing and mediates the effects of participation and ownership. These findings highlight the importance of involving employees in organizational decisions and fostering a sense of ownership to overcome barriers to knowledge sharing. Practically, the study suggests that the Gambia Civil Aviation Authority and similar organizations should adopt participatory management and psychological empowerment strategies to build commitment and promote continuous knowledge sharing. Such efforts are vital for operational efficiency, innovation, and sustainable growth. Overall, this research fills a gap in knowledge-sharing studies within African aviation contexts and provides a framework for improving information exchange in resource-limited settings.

Abstract

This study examines the dynamic relationship between the Catholic Church and local culture within the context of liturgical inculturation in Indonesia. As an institution historically rooted in Western traditions, the Catholic Church is required to engage in dialogue with the cultural diversity of the Indonesian archipelago, which is marked by complex symbols, values, and religious expressions. Liturgical inculturation represents an encounter between faith and culture that seeks to preserve the theological meaning of the liturgy while fostering the development of local religious identity. Within this context, the study aims to explore the forms, meanings, and social implications of inculturation practices in the Indonesian Catholic Church. The primary objective is to analyze the processes and meanings of inculturation in the implementation of Catholic liturgy, particularly in the adaptation of symbols, language, and local cultural expressions within the Eucharistic celebration. This research employs a descriptive qualitative method with a phenomenological approach, informed by the social construction theory of Peter L. Berger and Thomas Luckmann. The findings reveal that liturgical inculturation in Indonesia is not merely aesthetic or symbolic, but constitutes a dialogical and reflective process that integrates Gospel values with local cultural traditions. Furthermore, inculturation strengthens the congregation’s sense of belonging while broadening the understanding of catholicity as a universal communion that embraces cultural diversity.

Abstract

The growth of social media has transformed how digital-native generations construct and present identity. Islamic college students face a unique challenge in balancing digital trends with Islamic values. This study examines self-branding patterns and strategies among students at Sunan Ampel State Islamic University, Surabaya, focusing on Instagram and TikTok and the integration of Islamic values. Using a qualitative case study approach, data were collected through in-depth interviews, social media observation, and documentation of six selected students, and analyzed using Miles and Huberman’s model and Goffman’s dramaturgical framework. The findings show that students consciously curate content as digital self- presentation (front stage), while the selection process and consideration of Islamic values occur in the back stage. Self-branding combines modern visual aesthetics, personal narratives, and religious symbols presented in popular, contextual forms. Students experience dual pressures from religious expectations and social media algorithms, yet gain opportunities for networking, reputation building, and digital da’wah. The study concludes that student self-branding at UIN Sunan Ampel Surabaya represents a hybrid identity adapting Islamic values to contemporary digital culture.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the social construction underlying the decline in the electability of female DPRD members in Magelang Regency in the 2024 Election. Based on election data, women's representation in the Magelang R egency legislature shows a less than optimal trend even though the affirmative action policy (30% quota) has been implemented in the nomination process. This study uses a descriptive qualitative method with the Social Construction theory of Peter L. Berger and Thomas Luckmann to dissect how women's political reality is shaped through the processes of externalization, objectification, and internalization in society. The results show that the decline in electability is influenced by social construction that is still dominated by patriarchal values, where political leadership is still constructed as a male domain. The main inhibiting factors include: (1) societal stigma that limits women's political space, (2) public perception of women's low political capabilities, and (3) the lack of social and economic capital of female candidates compared to male candidates. The conclusion of this study emphasizes that formal policies alone are not enough without being followed by a deconstruction of public perceptions of gender roles in politics.

Abstract

This study examines the motives underlying tantrum behavior among beneficiaries participating in religious guidance programs at the Social Service and Rehabilitation Center for People with Social Welfare Problems (PRS PMKS) in Sidoarjo. Tantrum behavior, often interpreted as disruption or noncompliance, is analyzed sociologically as meaningful social action shaped by subjective motives, life experiences, and institutional interactions. Using a descriptive qualitative approach with a social phenomenological method, data were collected through passive observation, in-depth interviews with beneficiaries and religious instructors, and documentation. Data were analyzed through reduction, display, and conclusion drawing, and interpreted using Max Weber’s theory of social action, complemented by Michel Foucault’s concepts of disciplinary power and Pierre Bourdieu’s framework of symbolic power and religious field. The findings show that tantrum behavior is driven by emotional trauma, adjustment to institutional routines, instrumental considerations, and internalized moral values. Tantrum behavior functions as social communication, subtle resistance, and identity negotiation within institutional religious practices. Therefore, tantrum behavior should be understood as meaningful social action reflecting the interaction between individual agency, institutional power, and religious moral regulation in social rehabilitation.

Abstract

This study examines the role of symbolic interactionism in divorce mediation, focusing on how mediators at the Sidoarjo Religious Court construct and communicate the concept of a “harmonious family” through symbolic interactions. The research responds to rising divorce rates in Indonesia, particularly in Sidoarjo, where emotional conflict and poor communication often hinder mediation. Using a qualitative case study approach, data were collected through participatory observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. Data analysis followed the Miles and Huberman model, including data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. Research subjects consisted of court mediators and divorcing couples selected purposively based on experience and relevance. The findings show that mediators facilitate dialogue through verbal and nonverbal symbols such as empathy, adaptive language, polite greetings, and friendly gestures. Mediators also reinterpret the idea of a harmonious family from a hierarchical model toward one based on equality, mutual understanding, shared responsibility, and child welfare, supported by moral and religious advice. This study concludes that mediation functions not only as a legal process but also as a space for social and moral learning, emphasizing the importance of communication skills in achieving peaceful and sustainable resolutions.

Abstract

This study examines the phenomenon of Regent Lilis' victory in the 2024 Kebumen Regency election, which brought with it a number of challenges that could have hindered her victory. These challenges included her husband's negative background, who had been involved in a bribery case, issues of political dynasties, and stereotypes against women. The researchers used Pierre Bourdieu's Social Practice Theory and Knowledge-Power-Discourse Theory to analyze how social practices contributed to Lilis' victory in the 2024 regional election in Gombong District. The research method used in this study was qualitative with a case study approach. The results of this study show that the social practices used by Regent Lilis to win in Gombong Subdistrict were not much different from previous social practices used to win. The resources and capital owned by her husband, former Regent Yahya Fuad, continued to be maintained and strengthened by Regent Lilis. So, even though the domain was different, Regent Lilis was still able to win votes in Gombong Subdistrict just like her husband. In addition, the narrative "Biyunge Wong Kebumen" succeeded in creating a regime of truth based on domestic morality. This strategy succeeded in eliminating negative issues through an undeniable narrative of love.
