Abstract

Online reviews on platforms such as TripAdvisor have become a determinant factor in tourists' hotel selection decisions. This study aims to identify and compare the driving factors of positive and negative reviews on TripAdvisor from the perspective of hotel guests' stay experiences in Semarang City. A qualitative approach using thematic analysis method was applied to 127 reviews consisting of 64 positive reviews (rating 4–5) and 63 negative reviews (rating 1–2) from 15 star-rated hotels. The findings reveal five main themes driving positive reviews: staff service quality (90.6%), cleanliness and comfort (81.3%), perceived value (64.1%), strategic location (59.4%), and culinary experience (53.1%). Meanwhile, negative reviews were driven by facility failures (81.0%), expectation discrepancy (74.6%), cleanliness deficiency (69.8%), poor service quality (61.9%), and noise issues (44.4%). Comparative analysis identified convergent patterns in staff service, cleanliness, facilities, and expectations dimensions that function as drivers for both types of reviews. Divergent patterns were found in location and culinary aspects that exclusively appeared in positive reviews, and noise issues that only emerged in negative reviews. These findings confirm the expectancy-disconfirmation theory and provide practical implications for hotel management to prioritize staff competency development, preventive facility maintenance, and accurate expectation management.

Abstract

Coconut shell charcoal briquettes are one of Indonesia’s leading export commodities with high demand in international markets, including Saudi Arabia. Although Indonesia remains the top exporter, export growth over the past decade has faced increasing competition from countries such as China, Malaysia, Vietnam, and Egypt. This study aims to analyze the competitiveness, export performance dynamics, and market potential of Indonesia’s coconut shell charcoal briquettes compared to its four main competitors in the Saudi Arabian market from 2014 to 2023. The methods employed include the Revealed Comparative Advantage (RCA) to measure comparative advantage, Export Product Dynamic (EPD) to assess export performance trends, and the XModel Potential Export Products to evaluate market potential. The RCA results indicate that Indonesia has a very strong comparative advantage (average RCA of 49.49), consistently surpassing its competitors. However, EPD analysis categorizes Indonesia as a “Lost opportunity,” meaning that while exports are growing, market share is declining, indicating untapped potential. The XModel analysis positionsIndonesia as a “Potential Market,” while Vietnam emerges as the only “Optimistic Market” with a strong RCA (13.97) and a Rising star EPD trend. These findings highlight Indonesia’s strong comparative advantage but emphasize the need for adaptive export strategies to convert potential into sustainable competitiveness.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the differences in corporate tax avoidance practices in Indonesia before and after the COVID-19 pandemic, with a focus on 2019 and 2020. The background of this study is the low tax ratio in Indonesia, which is mostly caused by the high rate of tax evasion, which was recorded at Rp 67.6 trillion in 2020. The research method used is quantitative with purposive sampling techniques. The study population consisted of 206 companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX), with 91 companies selected as samples. The study variable was the rate of tax avoidance in 2019 and 2020, which was analyzed using a statistical test paired sample t-test. The results of the study show that there are significant differences in tax avoidance practices before and during the pandemic. These findings indicate that the global health crisis conditions also affect the company's strategy in managing tax liabilities, both through internal policy adjustments and responses to government regulations. This research contributes to academic and practical understanding of the dynamics of tax avoidance in times of crisis, and can be a reference for policymakers in formulating strategies to improve tax compliance in Indonesia.

Abstract

The dynamic development of the work world increases the mobility of Generation Z employees, including in Pati City. The high turnover intention among this generation presents a challenge for organizations in retaining a young workforce. The imbalance between work demands and psychological well-being, as well as less adaptive leadership styles, demonstrate the importance of employee well-being and leadership style in employee retention strategies. This study aims to analyze the influence of employee well-being and leadership style on turnover intention among Generation Z employees in Pati City. The study used a quantitative approach with a survey method of 96 respondents selected through accidental and snowball sampling techniques. Data were analyzed using multiple linear regression. The results showed that employee well-being had no significant effect on turnover intention, while leadership style had a negative and significant effect. Simultaneously, both variables had a significant effect with an Adjusted R Square value of 18.7%. This finding confirms that strengthening leadership quality is a key strategy in reducing turnover intention, accompanied by efforts to continuously improve work well-being.

Abstract

The development of the gig economy in Indonesia has driven an increase in the number of app-based work partners, including ShopeeFood drivers in Demak Regency. However, previous studies have shown inconsistent results regarding the effect of extrinsic motivation and gamification on driver performance, particularly in mid-sized cities with lower order volumes. This study aims to analyze the effect of extrinsic motivation and gamification on the performance of ShopeeFood drivers in Demak Regency. The approach used was quantitative with a saturated sampling technique (census sampling) of 105 active drivers as of December 12, 2025. Data were collected through questionnaires and analyzed using multiple linear regression. The results showed that extrinsic motivation had a positive and significant effect on performance (β = 0.299; sig. 0.000), as did gamification (β = 0.266; sig. 0.000). Income, incentives, job security, and working conditions, as well as gamification systems such as points, rewards, leaderboards, and levels, have been shown to increase driver engagement and performance. It was concluded that both variables effectively improved performance, so companies need to design extrinsic motivation and gamification systems that are realistic and adaptive to the characteristics of medium-sized cities.

Abstract

The high operational demands in the production logistics division of PT. Canova Semarang are a crucial issue because they have the potential to trigger job stress that can affect employee stability and productivity, while perceived organizational support is seen as an organizational factor that can strengthen performance. Theoretically, this study is based on the theory of work stress and social exchange theory which explain that performance is influenced by psychological factors and institutional support. This study aims to analyze the effect of Job Stress and Perceived Organizational Support on Employee Performance with a quantitative approach using saturated sampling techniques on 65 employees and multiple linear regression analysis. The results show that job stress has a significant effect on performance, where managed stress can improve performance but excessive stress decreases work quality, while Perceived Organizational Support has a positive and significant effect on performance. These findings emphasize the importance of proportional stress management and strengthening organizational support to maintain sustainable employee productivity.

Abstract

The research seeks to investigate the impact of training programs and career development on employee retention among Civil Servants (ASN) in the General Affairs Division of the Regional Secretariat of Batang Regency. Employee retention is a strategic concern that influences the continuity of public services, bureaucratic effectiveness, and efficiency in human resource management. The observed gap lies between the government’s substantial investment in training and career development initiatives and the relatively low retention rate of civil servants. This study employs a quantitative approach, with the entire population of 78 ASN included as the sample through a saturated sampling technique. The independent variables consist of training programs (relevance of training content, facilitator quality, frequency, organizational support, and transfer of learning) and career development (formal career planning, promotion opportunities, mentoring, talent management, and merit system transparency). The dependent variable is employee retention, measured through tenure intention, work engagement, job satisfaction, and turnover rate. Data analysis was conducted using JASP software, applying linear regression and classical assumption tests to examine the direct relationships among variables. The findings are expected to provide empirical evidence that training programs and career development positively and significantly affect ASN retention, while also identifying the most influential dimensions within the bureaucratic context. This study contributes to evidence-based human resource policies that strengthen organizational stability, support bureaucratic reform, and ensure sustainable public service delivery.
