Abstract

This study examines the success of interpersonal communication in the Muhammadiyah Youth Organisation Branch in Erelembang Village, Gowa Regency. The study uses a descriptive qualitative approach with in-depth interviews with 12 informants, direct observation, and document analysis during September-November 2024. The results of the study found four methods of interpersonal communication that were applied: (1) repetition of messages that took advantage of close relationships in rural areas; (2) persuasion through two-way dialogue; (3) delivery of information with clear evidence of the benefits of organizing; and (4) a firm approach limited to members with specific characteristics. The success of communication was measured using five indicators that showed the creation of openness, mutual understanding, support, favorable responses, and equality in communication. The findings show that interpersonal communication is more successful than group communication in rural environments, with persuasion having the best impact. The contribution of this research lies in the development of an organisational communication model suitable for rural areas and an understanding of how to adapt communication methods to local characteristics.

Abstract

This study analyses the communication patterns of Sheikh Yusuf al-Makassari (1626-1699) from a sociological perspective and their relevance to the transformation of contemporary communication. Using qualitative methods with an interpretive sociological approach, this study examines how Sheikh Yusuf's communication strategies in a pluralistic society succeeded in creating social change. The findings show that Sheikh Yusuf used three communication models: (1) adaptive-contextual communication through a hikmah approach, (2) persuasive-empathetic communication through mau'idzah hasanah, and (3) dialogical-participatory communication through mujadalah. This study found that Sheikh Yusuf's da'wah communication patterns underwent a transformation in the digital era, but still maintained the basic principles of humanistic and non-coercive communication. The contribution of this study is identifying effective da'wah communication models in pluralistic societies as an alternative to extreme da'wah communication on social media.

Abstract

This study aims to analyse the non-neutrality of civil servants in the 2024 regional head elections in Gowa Regency; communication in the supervision of the Gowa Regency Election Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu) to realise civil servant neutrality; and the actions of the Gowa Regency Bawaslu in handling violations of civil servant neutrality. The research method used was qualitative field research. The research approach used was organisational communication theory. The data sources were primary and secondary data. The data collection methods consisted of observation, interviews, and documentation. The results of the study show that the factors causing civil servants to be non-neutral in the 2024 regional head elections in Gowa Regency are pressure from the incumbent or candidates who support the incumbent; temptation, personal interests in positions or benefits; kinship or connections; and supervision that is not yet comprehensive and a lack of supervisory human resources. Bawaslu conducted communication in the form of socialisation, public education, participatory supervision through dialogue and seminars, coordination with local governments, BKD, and inspectorates, as well as media campaigns. In handling violations, Bawaslu issued appeal letters, processed reports, and enforced the law through coordination with the Integrated Law Enforcement Centre (Gakkumdu), the State Civil Service Agency (BKN), and related agencies. Overall, this study emphasises the importance of educational, coordinative, and participatory institutional communication, as well as the need to strengthen regulations and guidance for ASN to maintain bureaucratic neutrality. These efforts are strategic steps toward building a professional, independent, and integrity-driven bureaucracy in the implementation of regional elections.

Abstract

This study examines the social construction of professionalism through communicative practices within the Human Initiative Volunteer Energy (HIVE) South Sulawesi volunteer community, with a focus on the Remote Area Education Program in Pattuku Village. Using a descriptive qualitative approach with participatory observation and in-depth interviews, this study reveals how the meaning of professionalism is adapted from formal definitions to contextual communicative practices. The findings reveal five dimensions of adapted professionalism: boundless dedication, accountability to beneficiaries, creative adaptability, relational ethics, and continuous learning. This adaptation occurs through three patterns of communication—horizontal, vertical, and diagonal—which function as mechanisms of socialization and legitimization. This study contributes to the understanding of organizational communication by showing how the meaning of professionalism is adapted through communicative practices in the context of volunteering.
