Journal of Selvicoltura Asean is an international, peer-reviewed, open-access journal that publishes scientific articles primarily but not limited to the area of Forestry Specialist. Journal of Selvicoltura Asean focuses on all dimensions of forest management, including but not limited to planning, conservation, sylviculture, socioeconomics, and the utilization of forest resources, with a focus in particular on the tropical forests of Asia. We are also eager to include contributions from other geographical scopes as long as they can convincingly demonstrate a critical significance to the concerns that are plaguing Asias forested landscape.

Abstract

This research aims to explore the concept of political ecology in the context of the relationship between humans and the environment. Through a qualitative approach, literature analysis, case studies, and interviews were conducted to understand the implementation of the concept of political ecology. The results of the analysis show the complexity of socio-environmental interactions and the scale of political ecology. The findings provide a deeper understanding of the political and cultural dynamics in the representation of "nature". Thus, this research makes an important contribution to understanding political ecology from a geographical perspective. In conclusion, the political ecology approach provides a comprehensive picture and effective solutions in dealing with increasingly complex environmental problems.

Abstract

The impact of climate change on Asian forests is significant because it can affect temperature, rainfall, forest growth, seasonal patterns, and ecosystem balance. The research method used is a literature study that includes analyzing historical data, current observations, and monitoring climate change trends in the Asian region. The results show that climate change has led to an increase in average temperatures, changes in rainfall patterns, and melting of glaciers and ice in the Asian mountains. These impacts extend to various aspects of life, including ecosystems, agriculture, human well-being, and natural resource availability. Therefore, comprehensive mitigation and adaptation strategies and international cooperation are needed to protect Asia's forest ecosystems and increase people's resilience to the impacts of climate change.

Abstract

Economic growth, urbanization, and infrastructure development are the main drivers of the increase in built-up land area in Ternate Selatan Sub-district. This study aims to investigate and understand the dynamics of land use evolution over a period of one decade. Using satellite image data and image processing techniques, an analysis was conducted to identify significant changes in land cover, particularly in relation to economic growth, urbanization, and infrastructure development. The results showed an increase in the area of built-up land in Ternate SelatanSub-district from 2014 to 2024 along with changes in land use patterns that reflect development pressure. In 2014, the percentage of built-up land area in Ternate SelatanSub-district was 24.69% and continued to increase in 2024 to 31.44% of the total area of Ternate Island. In contrast to other land cover classes that experienced a decrease in area. The results of this study are expected to provide an important contribution for policy makers, environmentalists, and other stakeholders in designing appropriate measures to maintain the balance between economic growth and nature conservation in Ternate SelatanSub-district.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the Pattern of Land Cover Change in Sirimau District, Ambon City, Indonesia. The introduction of the research discusses the importance of understanding the dynamic interaction between human activities and land resources in the context of spatially distributed land cover. The research method used was descriptive quantitative with a spatial approach, conducted in Sirimau Sub-district, Ambon City, which experienced high population growth and development of built-up areas. Satellite image data analysis was used to identify patterns of land cover change from 2014 to 2024. The results showed the dominance of agricultural land in 2014, with certain areas converted to residential and built-up land in 2019 and 2024. The findings provide valuable insights in understanding the dynamics of land cover change in Sirimau sub-district and its relevance in sustainable land resource management.

Abstract

Climate change has become a pressing global issue, with vulnerable countries such as the Russian Federation facing significant challenges. This research aims to explore the role of Russian government policies in addressing the impacts of global climate change. The research method used is a literature study that includes data analysis from various reliable sources. The results and discussion highlight that Russia is vulnerable to climate change due to its vast territory and dependence on the fossil fuel industry. Socio-economic impacts such as heat waves, forest fires and permafrost thawing have reinforced the urgency of mitigation and adaptation measures. Recommendations include strengthening climate policies, diversifying energy sources, raising public awareness, international collaboration, and technological innovation. By addressing challenges such as lack of public awareness and limited resources, Russia can play a more proactive role in protecting the environment and creating a sustainable future.
