Abstract

Child development is a continuous process that begins at birth and continues throughout life, with infancy representing a critical period that determines future physical, mental, and social abilities. To achieve optimal growth and development, infants require not only adequate nutrition and affection but also appropriate and consistent stimulation. Mothers play a crucial role in providing early stimulation, as sufficient knowledge enhances motivation to engage in activities that support infant development. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between the level of maternal knowledge and mothers’ motivation in providing stimulation for infant growth and development. An analytic survey with a cross-sectional design was conducted among 91 mothers with infants in Sukani PMB, selected through simple random sampling. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire and analyzed using the Chi-square test at a 0.05 significance level. The results showed a significant association between maternal knowledge and motivation to provide stimulation (p < 0.001), with a strong correlation between the two variables. These findings suggest that higher maternal knowledge is associated with greater motivation to support infant development. Strengthening health education and counseling programs for mothers is recommended to enhance family participation in promoting optimal child growth and development.

Abstract

Sexually transmitted infections (STIs) remain a significant public health concern, particularly among adolescents who are in a psychosocial developmental stage that increases vulnerability to environmental influences. This study aimed to explore students’ perceptions, attitudes, and behaviors regarding gender in STI prevention efforts at SMA IT Abu Bakar Yogyakarta. A qualitative descriptive–exploratory design was employed. Participants were selected using purposive sampling and consisted of six science-track students aged 16–17 years, including both male and female students. Data were collected through semi-structured in-depth interviews supported by field notes. Qualitative data analysis was conducted through data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings indicate that students generally hold egalitarian perceptions of gender, recognizing that both males and females share equal responsibility in preventing STIs. Students’ attitudes toward STI prevention were predominantly positive, characterized by rejection of risky sexual behaviors without stigmatizing individuals affected by STIs. In terms of behavior, students demonstrated self-regulatory practices such as avoiding premarital sexual activity, being selective in social interactions, and strengthening religious values. The study concludes that the integration of Islamic-based education plays an important role in shaping adolescents’ awareness, attitudes, and preventive behaviors related to STI control within a gender-equitable framework.

Abstract

Indonesian adolescents face growing risks of engaging in premarital sexual behaviors, including kissing, touching, and sexual intercourse, which may result in unwanted pregnancy, unsafe abortion, and sexually transmitted infections. Limited knowledge about premarital sex increases adolescents’ vulnerability to peer pressure and social media influence. Adequate knowledge is therefore essential for forming responsible sexual attitudes. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between knowledge levels regarding premarital sexual activity and premarital sexual attitudes among eleventh-grade students at SMK N 1 Dlingo. This observational analytical study used a cross-sectional design. Total sampling was applied, involving all 199 eleventh-grade students as respondents. Data were collected using a validated and reliable questionnaire. Statistical analysis was performed using the Chi-Square test with SPSS software. Results showed that 168 students had good knowledge, 15 had sufficient knowledge, and 16 had insufficient knowledge. Regarding attitudes, 134 students demonstrated positive attitudes toward premarital sex, while 65 demonstrated negative attitudes. Bivariate analysis produced a p-value of 0.000, indicating a significant relationship between knowledge level and premarital sexual attitudes among adolescents. These findings emphasize the importance of school-based sexual education to promote informed attitudes and prevent risky behaviors among Indonesian adolescents today.

Abstract

Chronic energy deficiency and anemia during pregnancy remain public health problems that contribute to the incidence of low birth weight (LBW). Maternal factors such as hemoglobin level, mid–upper arm circumference (MUAC), maternal age, and parity are known to influence intrauterine nutrient supply. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between these maternal factors and neonatal birth weight. An analytical observational study with a cross-sectional design was conducted among 60 postpartum mothers who delivered live infants at Kasihan I Primary Health Center, Bantul Regency, from January to December 2024. Total sampling was applied. Data were obtained from medical records, including maternal hemoglobin levels, MUAC, age, parity, and neonatal birth weight. Data analysis consisted of univariate, bivariate, and multivariate regression analyses. The prevalence of low birth weight was 35%. MUAC showed a significant association with birth weight (p < 0.001) with a moderate correlation strength (R = 0.50). Each 1 cm increase in MUAC was associated with an increase of approximately 182 grams in neonatal birth weight. In contrast, maternal age, parity, and hemoglobin levels were not significantly associated with birth weight (p > 0.05). Maternal mid–upper arm circumference was identified as the most influential factor affecting neonatal birth weight.
