Abstract

Background of the study: Da'wah Management has developed primarily in a technical-administrative manner with weak epistemological foundations, reducing da'wah to managerial activities and obscuring its role as a praxis of social transformation. Aims and scope of paper: This article aims to reconstruct the epistemology of Da'wah Management toward a Prophetic Management paradigm grounded in humanization, liberation, and transcendence, with a focus on the development of Islamic higher education as a scientific and institutional field. Methods: This study employs a qualitative, conceptual-epistemological approach using a critical literature review to examine the scientific foundations of Da'wah Management and formulate an alternative paradigm. Result: The findings reveal the dominance of positivistic-technocratic and normative-fiqh epistemologies that reduce da'wah to administrative skills, and propose prophetic epistemology as an alternative framework that is humanistic, emancipatory, and transcendental. Conclusion: The Prophetic Management–based reconstruction positions Da'wah Management as a transformative socio-religious discipline, with implications for redefining institutional roles, curriculum design, and graduate profiles as prophetic leaders responsive to contemporary humanitarian challenges.

Abstract

Purpose – This study aims to examine the partial and simultaneous effects of the 5P marketing mix elements—product, price, place, promotion, and people—on Umrah pilgrims’ interest in selecting travel services at PT. Hajar Aswad Mubaroq Surakarta. It also seeks to identify the most dominant variable influencing pilgrims’ interest. Design/methodology/approach – This research employed a quantitative approach, with data collected from 90 respondents through structured questionnaires. The data were analysed by using statistical techniques, including t-tests to assess partial effects, F-tests to evaluate simultaneous effects, and the coefficient of determination (R²) to measure explanatory power. Findings – The results indicate that all five marketing mix elements significantly influence pilgrims’ interest both partially and simultaneously. The F-test result shows a value of 22.092, with an R² of 54.2%, indicating that the model explains a substantial proportion of variance in pilgrims’ interest. Among the variables, place is identified as the most dominant factor, followed by people, product, price, and promotion. Research implications – These findings underscore the strategic importance of optimizing all elements of the 5P marketing mix, particularly place and people. Travel agencies are encouraged to enhance accessibility and strategic location, as well as improve the competence and service quality of human resources, in order to strengthen pilgrims’ interest and competitiveness in the Umrah travel market. Originality/value – This study contributes to the Umrah travel marketing literature by comprehensively examining the simultaneous and partial effects of the 5P marketing mix on pilgrims’ interest in selecting Hajj and Umrah travel services, while identifying place as the most influential factor shaping customer interest.

Abstract

Purpose – This study aims to examine the development of Muslim-friendly tourism in Taiwan by synthesizing existing evidence on tourist needs, halal certification, destination image, and stakeholder readiness. As a non-Muslim destination actively targeting the growing Muslim travel market, Taiwan provides an important context for understanding how religiously sensitive tourism services can be developed within a multicultural environment. Design/methodology/approach – The study employs a systematic literature review approach guided by the PRISMA framework. Relevant publications were retrieved from the Scopus database using the keywords “Halal Tourism Taiwan,” “Islamic Tourism Taiwan,” and “Religious Tourism Taiwan.” The review focused on English-language journal articles and book chapters published between 2021 and 2026. Data were extracted through a structured summary table and analyzed using qualitative descriptive synthesis. Findings – The review reveals that Muslim tourists visiting Taiwan primarily expect access to halal food, prayer facilities, Islamic-compliant amenities, reliable halal information, and a welcoming social environment. Halal certification plays a critical role in building trust by reducing uncertainty and signaling compliance with Islamic requirements. Muslim-friendly attributes significantly strengthen both cognitive and affective destination image, although they do not directly determine travel decisions. The findings further indicate that Taiwan has demonstrated substantial stakeholder commitment through government initiatives, halal certification programs, and industry engagement. Nevertheless, challenges remain regarding the uneven availability of Muslim-friendly facilities, service standardization, and stakeholder coordination. Research implications – The findings provide practical insights for policymakers, tourism operators, and halal certification bodies seeking to strengthen Taiwan’s competitiveness in the Muslim tourism market through integrated destination management. Originality/value – This study contributes to the literature by integrating fragmented discussions on tourist needs, halal certification, destination image, and stakeholder readiness into a comprehensive framework for understanding Muslim-friendly tourism development in Taiwan.
