Abstract

This community service program aims to strengthen environmental awareness and literacy among coastal children through a participatory educational approach in RT 05 Pantai Amal, Tarakan City. The program involved children aged 6–12 years who participated in a series of integrated activities combining environmental education and literacy-based learning. Visual media, interactive discussions, and picture storybooks with environmental themes were used to create a learning process that was close to the children’s daily experiences. Observational data showed a significant increase in children’s understanding of coastal environmental conditions, their awareness of waste issues, and their willingness to engage in pro-environmental behavior. At the same time, literacy activities encouraged greater interest in reading, improved confidence in expressing ideas, and enhanced participation in group discussions. The integration of environmental awareness and literacy proved effective in shaping positive character traits, including responsibility, social awareness, and critical thinking. These findings indicate that participatory, context-based education can serve as an effective strategy for empowering coastal children and fostering sustainable values from an early age.

Abstract

This community service activity focuses on technical assistance for the planning and spatial arrangement of Al-Khair Mosque as a child-friendly and disability-inclusive mosque. The program was implemented using a participatory approach involving mosque managers and congregants to ensure relevance and sustainability. Field observations revealed several accessibility and safety limitations related to entrance access, circulation paths, ablution areas, and supporting facilities. Identification of user needs highlighted diverse requirements among children, elderly worshippers, and persons with physical and sensory disabilities. Participatory discussions with mosque administrators served as a platform to integrate empirical findings with local perspectives and management capacities. Based on these processes, inclusive technical recommendations were formulated, emphasizing accessibility, safety, comfort, and gradual implementation. The results demonstrate that participatory technical assistance strengthens managerial awareness, enhances design responsiveness, and supports inclusive religious participation. This program confirms that integrating user-based data, inclusive design principles, and local commitment is essential for transforming mosques into accessible and welcoming worship spaces for all community members

Abstract

The application of food drying equipment as an appropriate technology for herbal micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in Pandanarum Village aims to improve production efficiency, product quality, and business sustainability. This study examines the performance of the drying tool through field implementation, training, and direct observation during the drying process of herbal raw materials such as ginger, turmeric, cinnamon, and temulawak. The findings indicate a significant reduction in drying time, more uniform moisture content, and improved cleanliness, color stability, and aroma compared to traditional sun-drying methods. The use of the drying equipment also enhances production consistency and reduces dependence on weather conditions, allowing MSMEs to better manage production schedules and meet market demand. Furthermore, the technology supports sustainable practices by enabling the utilization of herbal waste as value-added products. Overall, the drying tool demonstrates strong potential as an appropriate, affordable, and easily operated technology that strengthens the competitiveness and long-term viability of herbal MSMEs based on local resources.

Abstract

The purpose of this community service is to disseminate information on the implementation of parole in accordance with Law Number 22 of 2022 to prisoners, and to identify the supporting and inhibiting factors at the Watampone Class IIA Prison. This dissemination uses the lecture method to all inmates and correctional officers, followed by a question and answer session and the distribution of questionnaires, which are then analyzed juridically and empirically using a qualitative approach, utilizing primary and secondary data. Primary data was obtained through interviews with officials and correctional officers, as well as questionnaires given to inmates who were recipients or potential recipients of parole. Secondary data was sourced from laws and regulations, literature, and official prison documents. The results of the socialization show that the implementation of parole at the Watampone Class IIA Prison for the 2021–2024 period has been optimal, with an increasing trend in the number of recipients each month and a 90% success rate in completing the probation period without violations. Supporting factors include the commitment of officers, clear regulations, an integrated data system, and service innovations. Hindering factors include limited human resources, administrative constraints, minimal infrastructure, community stigma, unknown whereabouts of family guarantors, and disciplinary violations by prisoners that result in failure to obtain parole..

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the utilization of an organic waste shredding machine as an effort to support community-based waste management. The research employed a descriptive qualitative approach using observation, interviews, and documentation to examine the implementation and impact of the machine on local waste processing practices. The results indicate that the use of the shredding machine effectively reduces the volume of organic waste and facilitates faster processing into compost materials. Community involvement in operating and maintaining the machine reflects increased awareness and responsibility toward environmentally friendly waste management. However, several challenges were identified, including limited technical knowledge and inconsistent machine usage. Despite these constraints, the utilization of the organic waste shredding machine has contributed positively to environmental cleanliness and encouraged community participation in sustainable waste management. Therefore, this program demonstrates significant potential to strengthen community-based waste processing systems when supported by continuous guidance and proper management.

Abstract

This community service program aimed to implement appropriate technology through automatic sensor-based street lighting and a digital suggestion box in Pandanarum Village. The initiative addressed two main local issues, namely insufficient street lighting in village alleys and limited access to safe and practical channels for citizens to express aspirations. The method employed direct field observation, participatory planning with village officials, technology installation, community assistance, and evaluation using interviews and questionnaires. The results indicate that the automatic sensor lights improved environmental lighting quality, energy efficiency, and residents’ perceived sense of security during nighttime activities. At the same time, the digital suggestion box, accessed through barcode-linked anonymous forms, increased community participation in conveying feedback related to public services and village facilities. Evaluation data demonstrate that the technologies functioned reliably and were well received by both residents and village administrators. This program confirms that simple, user-friendly technologies aligned with community needs can effectively enhance village safety, social participation, and governance responsiveness, while offering strong potential for replication and further development in similar rural contexts..
