Abstract

Community participation is one of the most critical aspects of community development and empowerment. The high or low level of community participation is seen by the community's desire and the people's support to bear costs or labor in implementing government development projects. This study aims to describe and analyze the concept of andragogy and participatory implementation, especially in the community development process. The study employed a qualitative approach with a literature review data collection technique. The results showed that the stages in community participation cover decision-making, planning, implementation, and the evaluation or monitoring of activities. In addition, the forms of community participation are tangible (natural) and abstract (not actual). The constraints of community participation can be seen from internal and external factors.

Abstract

This study examines the role of social capital in enhancing yellow corn farmer groups in Wakadia Village, Watopute Subdistrict, Muna Regency. Despite abundant natural resources, Indonesia's agricultural sector faces challenges like import dependency, underscoring the need for robust farmer group development to boost productivity and food security. Social capital, encompassing trust, participation, and networks, is pivotal in fostering collaboration and resource access among farmers. The research, involved 66 yellow corn farmers selected via purposive sampling from seven farmer groups in Wakadia, a key corn production hub. Data were collected through surveys, interviews, documentation, and literature reviews, with questionnaires as the primary tool. The study employed class interval analysis to assess social capital and farmer group development, and Spearman rank correlation to evaluate their relationship. Findings indicate strong social capital (87.87%) and well-developed farmer groups (95.45%), driven by active participation, trust in group leadership, and robust networks facilitating access to technology and markets. A significant positive correlation (0.770, p=0.00) exists between social capital and group development, suggesting that higher social capital enhances group progress. Challenges include limited marketing networks, which hinder income optimization. Strengthening social capital through training, expanded partnerships, and improved facilities is recommended to sustain agricultural development.

Abstract

The agricultural sector, particularly the horticultural industry in Southeast Sulawesi, plays a pivotal role in economic development and job creation. However, in the Poasia Subdistrict, the potential for vegetable cultivation has not been optimized due to low production and limited extension support, access to inputs, and extension workers whose performance does not fully meet farmers' needs. The objective of this study is to ascertain the correlation between the level of satisfaction among farmers engaged in vegetable farming and the effectiveness of agricultural extension workers in Poasia District. The research population consists of vegetable farmers in Poasia District who are spread across various subdistricts, with a total of 53 people. The research sample was obtained through the implementation of a census or saturated sampling method. The data collection techniques employed included interviews, documentation, and surveys. The results of the study show that the level of farmer satisfaction in vegetable farming in Poasia Subdistrict has a strong relationship (0.660) with the performance of agricultural extension workers. Farmer satisfaction is seen from the factors of production input, production output, marketing, and the performance of agricultural extension workers. In general, the level of satisfaction is in the moderate category. Farmers are most satisfied with the use of pesticides (73.58%) and fertilizers (62.26%), while the land aspect shows the lowest level of satisfaction (11.32%) due to limited cultivation area. In terms of production output, 66.03% of farmers were satisfied with the previous year's output, but only 26.41% were satisfied with the current year's output due to weather factors and limited inputs. In terms of marketing, ease of market access and price stability increased farmer satisfaction to 66.03%. Meanwhile, the performance of agricultural extension workers was rated as good, especially in terms of clarity of material (62.26%) and extension methods (73.58%), which contributed positively to increasing farmer capacity.

Abstract

Waode Buri Village is one of the clove production centers in North Buton Regency, but the productivity and quality of the harvest are still below the national average and have decreased every year. This study aims to examine the behavior of farmers at the picking stage in handling clove harvests in Waode Buri Village, North Kulisusu District, North Buton Regency, which includes knowledge, attitudes, and skills. The number of informants in this study was 7 people who were selected based on criteria that have been made by the researcher. This study uses a qualitative approach with data collection techniques through observation, interviews, and documentation of local clove farmers. Data were analyzed using the interactive model of Milles and Huberman. The results of the study indicate that the behavior of farmers at the picking stage in handling the harvest is still largely carried out in a hereditary manner, with manual harvesting techniques and at the picking stage, farmers do not use banggul as it should be in the picking process used in other clove producing areas., limited use of tools, and lack of quality control of the harvest. Improving farmers' knowledge and skills through training and extension, as well as government support in providing facilities and market access, is essential to improve the quality and selling value of cloves.

Abstract

Indonesia, as an agricultural country, has great potential in developing cassava commodities, which are highly needed by industry and export. However, this sector currently faces capital and technological constraints, resulting in suboptimal productivity. Partnerships between farmers and companies have the potential to be a solution to this situation. The objective of this study is to ascertain the nature of partnership in cassava farming activities in Wunduwatu Village, Andoolo District, South Konawe Regency. Informants for this study were selected using purposive and snowball sampling techniques. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews based on interview guidelines, and documentation. The focus of this study is the form of partnership in cassava farming. The data analysis method used is qualitative analysis, which consists of three stages, namely data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results show that the form of partnership carried out by farmers in cassava farming in Wunduwatu Village is divided into two, namely core-plasma partnership and general trade partnership. Core-plasma partnerships are more structured, with technical and administrative arrangements through a memorandum of understanding (MoU), including land legality requirements and crop marketing procedures. Meanwhile, general trading partnerships are flexible and trust-based, without formal ties, and give farmers complete freedom in managing their farms.

Abstract

Agriculture, particularly the cultivation of rice in Southeast Sulawesi, plays a pivotal role in ensuring national food security and driving economic growth. However, the decline in production in Mondoke Village is indicative of the limited empowerment of farmers, which can be attributed to a number of factors, including inadequate awareness, insufficient assistance, an insufficient readiness to face obstacles, and a lack of cooperation within farmer groups. The objective of this study is to ascertain the extent of rice farmers' empowerment in Mondoke Village, Lambandia District, East Kolaka Regency. The research population consists of 50 rice farmers who are members of farmer groups in Mandoke Village. The research sample was obtained through the census method.  The data collection techniques employed in this study included in-depth interviews, documentation review, and survey questionnaires. The independent variable in this study was farmer empowerment. The data were processed using class interval and percentage formulas, and then analyzed descriptively and quantitatively. The findings indicated that the empowerment of rice farmers in Mondoke Village fell within the moderate category. Some farmers exhibited high levels of awareness, training, and social networks, while others demonstrated limitations in terms of access, assistance, and technology application. While awareness and a readiness to change were found to be quite high, the effectiveness of the empowerment initiative was found to be hindered by an absence of sustainable external support. The capacity to augment capacity and gain access indicates that training is not yet fully relevant and ongoing, while market and technology access has been utilized individually rather than collectively. The capacity to surmount impediments remains limited due to inadequate planning, adaptation, and joint implementation. Despite the existence of practices involving the sharing of information and experiences among farmers, optimal levels of solidarity and cooperation have yet to be achieved. This is primarily due to the absence of coordination among farmer groups and the lack of a synchronized planting schedule.

Abstract

The considerable potential inherent in Indonesia's fisheries sector, bolstered by its abundant marine resources, has not been met by a commensurate enhancement in the productivity of fishermen. This underperformance can be primarily attributed to the limited competencies exhibited by fishermen, characterized by a paucity of knowledge, skills, and attitudes. A case in point is the traditional fishermen in Lakologou Village, Baubau City, who continue to grapple with challenges related to nature, technology, and catch management. The objective of this study is to ascertain the correlation between competence and work productivity among fishermen in Lakologou Village. The research population consisted of fishermen who use motorboats in Lakologou Village, with a total of 26 respondents. The research sample was determined using the census method.  The data were collected through a combination of interviews, documentation, and surveys administered via a questionnaire. The research variables were subsequently divided into two categories: fisherman competency and fisherman productivity. Quantitative statistical analysis was utilized in this study. The results indicated that the competence of fishermen in Lakologou Village was in the good category, reflecting their ability to adequately master knowledge, skills, and work attitudes in fishing activities. The productivity of fishermen was also notably high, as evidenced by their capacity to achieve optimal catches, maintain the quality of marine products, and demonstrate work efficiency in the field. A correlation analysis reveals a robust and statistically significant relationship between the competence of fishermen and their work productivity. This indicates that an enhancement in competence leads to a direct increase in productivity. This finding underscores the significance of enhancing the capabilities of coastal human resources through training programs and the transfer of technological expertise. These measures are instrumental in enhancing the competitiveness and sustainability of the fisheries sector.

Abstract

The success of rice farming in Wungkolo Village is largely determined by the availability and distribution of effective means of production, technological and government support, and the strategic role of farmer groups in facilitating production needs and increasing farmer productivity. The objective of this study is to ascertain the role of farmer groups in the distribution of production inputs in Wungkolo Village, South Wawonii District, Konawe Islands Regency. The selection of informants was executed through the implementation of purposive sampling. The present study comprised a total of ten informants. The data presented herein were collected through the implementation of interviews, the structure of which was predicated upon a series of inquiries pertinent to the research topic. Furthermore, observation and documentation methods were employed to bolster the research findings. The focal point of this study was the function of farmer groups in the distribution of rice paddy production facilities. The data were analyzed using both descriptive and qualitative methods. The results of the study indicate that the function of farmer groups in the distribution of production facilities in Wungkolo Village is not yet functioning properly. This is evidenced by the distribution of fertilizers that are not yet of the right type and quantity, which is still less than what farmers need. The distribution of seeds can be considered effective if the distribution of seeds corresponds to the appropriate type and quantity. The distribution of pesticides is still not optimal in terms of type, quantity, and timing.
