Abstract

Child development monitoring is very important. The prevalence of developmental delays in children under 5 years of age in Indonesia in 2018 was reported by WHO as 7,512.6 per 100,000 population (7.51%). The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of the Developmental Pre-Screening Questionnaire (DPSQ) monitoring book in increasing caregivers' knowledge in conducting early detection of early childhood development. This study was a quasi-pre-experimental study with a one-group pretest and posttest design. The sample in this study were all caregivers at the Metta Mama &Maggha Foundation. The results of the study showed that the average level of caregiver knowledge in conducting Early Detection of Early Childhood Development before being given the DPSQ monitoring book was 74.81. The average level of knowledge of caregivers in conducting Early Detection of Early Childhood Development after being given the DPSQ monitoring book was 95.19 (p value = 0.000). From the results of this study, it is expected that caregivers can carry out early detection of development with the DPSQ so if there is a developmental delay, appropriate handling can be carried out.

Abstract

Participation of pregnant women in antenatal care can support maternal and fetal health. However, low compliance rates indicate a lack of adequate care in the community. This study aimed to assess the effect of an empowerment program for pregnant women on adherence to antenatal care in the Kedungwaru Community Health Center (Puskesmas) area, Kedungwaru District, Tulungagung Regency. The study design was a one-group pre-experimentary study, consisting of a pre-test and a post-test. A total of 40 pregnant women were selected as the sample using purposive sampling. A questionnaire was used to collect information, while the Wilcoxon test was used to analyze the data. Increased adherence to antenatal care and participation in the empowerment program each showed significant results with a p-value of 0.000 (p < 0.05). The empowerment program for pregnant women increased adherence to antenatal care. This program should be expanded because it promotes better maternal health education and preventive health practices in the community.

Abstract

Dysmenorrhoea is lower abdominal pain caused by uterine muscle contractions and is a common problem among adolescents. In 2020, Indonesia reported that 64.25% of adolescents experienced dysmenorrhoea. Effective management is essential because dysmenorrhoea can negatively affect adolescents’ daily activities and concentration during learning. One non-pharmacological technique that can be used is acupressure at the hegu (LI4) and sanyinjiao (SP6) points combined with lemon aromatherapy. This study aimed to analyse the effectiveness of acupressure at the LI4 and SP6 points combined with lemon aromatherapy in reducing primary dysmenorrhoea among adolescents. This quantitative study employed a quasi-experimental design with 36 respondents selected through purposive sampling. The intervention consisted of applying pressure to the LI4 and SP6 points for 30 minutes and administering lemon aromatherapy by diluting 3 drops of lemon essential oil in 10 ml of water, carried out once daily for two days starting from the onset of dysmenorrhoea. The results showed that acupressure at both the hegu and sanyinjiao points combined with lemon aromatherapy significantly reduced dysmenorrhoea, with no significant difference in effectiveness between the two points (p = 0.486). Schools support the use of acupressure and lemon aromatherapy as an accessible and non-pharmacological method to help adolescents manage dysmenorrhoea.

Abstract

Cigarettes remains a significant public health concern with broad health, social, and economic consequences. Despite continuous awareness efforts, smoking prevalence has not declined substantially, particularly among adolescents who represent a high-risk group. Research focusing on adolescent smoking is therefore essential to prevent long-term health and social harms and to inform evidence-based health, educational, and social interventions. This study applied a descriptive cross-sectional design involving 119 high school students selected through cluster random sampling. Data were collected using structured questionnaires and analyzed using univariate and bivariate methods with the Chi-square test. The findings indicated a nearly equal proportion of adolescents with smoking and non-smoking family members. Negative perceptions of smoking hazards were slightly more prevalent than positive perceptions, while most respondents perceived the implementation of Smoke-Free Areas in schools as adequate. Bivariate analysis demonstrated no significant association between family smoking behavior and adolescents’ perceptions of smoking (p = 0.360). These results underscore the need for comprehensive and collaborative prevention strategies involving families, schools, communities, and policymakers to reduce smoking initiation and protect adolescent health in the long term.
