Landscapes are visible and integrative social-ecological systems with variable spatial and temporal dimensions. They have expressive aesthetic, natural, and cultural qualities that are perceived and valued by people in multiple ways and invite actions resulting in landscape change. Landscapes are increasingly urban in nature and ecologically and culturally sensitive to changes at local through global scales. Multiple disciplines and perspectives are required to understand landscapes and align social and ecological values to ensure the sustainability of landscapes. The journal is based on the premise that landscape science linked to planning and design can provide mutually supportive outcomes for people and nature. Landscape science brings landscape ecology and urban ecology together with other disciplines and cross-disciplinary fields to identify patterns and understand social-ecological processes influencing landscape change. Landscape planning brings landscape architecture, urban and regional planning, landscape and ecological engineering, and other practice-oriented fields to bear in processes for identifying problems and analyzing, synthesizing, and evaluating desirable alternatives for landscape change. Landscape design brings plans, designs, management prescriptions, policies and other activities and form-giving products to bear in effecting landscape change. The implementation of landscape planning and design also generates new patterns of evidence and hypotheses for further research, providing an integral link with landscape science and encouraging transdisciplinary collaborations to build robust knowledge and problem solving capacity.

Abstract

The technology used in everyday life also advances throughout time. Likewise, as time goes on, there will undoubtedly be a rise in the number of persons with disabilities. People with this impairment have personalities that are distinct from those of typical people. Their primary personality trait is that they tend to withdraw from others since they perceive themselves as unique. Because keeping to oneself will adversely impact your psychological and mental wellbeing. Any form of therapy will be unsuccessful if mental and psychological health are compromised. It is entirely feasible to integrate rehabilitation techniques for people with disabilities with modern technology, such as virtual reality (VR). Virtual reality enables the creation of customized virtual settings and landscapes. With the support of a virtual environment, needs can be met quickly. This research uses a participatory approach with descriptive-qualitative trial method because it tests psychological feelings through VR Landscape Design experience. This research found out that treatment for individuals with impairments can be improved since the virtual environment can be displayed as a game application. Future environmental assets for therapeutic game applications have a great deal of promise thanks to research into the design process of virtual landscapes. Based on the results of trials on patients with disabilities, it was concluded that, the comfort of the therapy process is greatly influenced by the visualization of virtual landscapes. Virtual landscapes must appear different from reality, like a dream world, and have features where patients can play and receive encouragement from pre-existing animations in the digital VR environment

Abstract

Transportation is an important part of urban development so that the existence of transportation service places is also quite vital, one of which is the train station area. The train station area has its own characteristics, character, and identity so that it can shape the image of the area. According to Kevin Lynch (1960), a city image contains elements that form the city's image in the form of paths, edges, district s, nodes, and landmarks. Semarang City has two main stations, namely the Semarang Tawang Station area and the Semarang Poncol Station area. The existence of the two train station areas is important so that it is necessary to understand theelements that form the city's image in order to obtain clarity on its identity and character. The research method used is qualitative research in the form of a case study approach with primary and secondary data. The results of this study are in the form of identification of elements that form the city's image in the Semarang Tawang Station area and the Semarang Poncol Station area, where elements are still found that are less appropriate and can still be improved or developed in order to strengthen the identity and character of the train station area

Abstract

Public spaces are vital for cities, providing places for social, cultural, and economic activities. Green Open Spaces (GOS), like Taman Jurong in Jababeka, Bekasi, are especially important for promoting ecological balance, community interactions, and environmental sustainability. Taman Jurong combines greenery, recreational areas, and mobility functions, serving as a corridor and a community space. However, informal economic activities, such as street vending, and limited infrastructure have created challenges, disrupting its planned functions. Recent policies aim to enforce Taman Jurong’s role as an ecological and ventilation zone, prioritizing safety due to underground gas pipelines. These measures have reduced informal activities, ensuring environmental sustainability and minimizing safety risks. However, they have also decreased the park’s vibrancy and limited its appeal as a community space. Visitors now spend less time in the park, and vendors struggle to adapt, highlighting tensions between planned uses and informal needs. Despite restrictions, Taman Jurong remains valuable for its shady trees and cool environment, which continue to attract visitors. The study underscores the importance of balancing ecological preservation, safety, and community engagement to create inclusive and functional urban spaces. Taman Jurong illustrates how well-managed GOS can enhance urban life while meeting diverse needs.

Abstract

Differences in socio-cultural conditions and landscapes of an area can cause differences in the types of plants cultivated. This ethnobotanical study aims to inventory, map, and document various types of plants and their relationships with humans for cultural conservation purposes. The survey method was used to inventory plant types in Batukaru Temple (mountains) and Uluwatu (hills) as well as the yards of residents in both villages. The results of the study showed that plants cultivated in the Batukaru Temple area and the yards of residents of Wongaya Gede Village have a low level of similarity (Sorensen index 0.2) with plants in the Uluwatu Temple area and the yards of residents of Pecatu Village. However, the use and preferences of the community towards plants are more directed towards aesthetic functions compared to other functions such as rituals, medicine, and consumption. Codiaeum variegatum, Bougainvillea glabra and Plumeria sp. are plants with high frequencies and are found in both areas.

Abstract

The Bantimurung Natural Tourism Area (NTA) in Maros Regency, South Sulawesi, is recognized as a tourist destination featuring stunning natural beauty and significant visual appeal. The region spans 48.6 hectares and features several attractions, such as karst structures, caves, unusual flora and animals, and butterfly museum. The municipal government-initiated tourism development in the 2000s by providing supporting amenities. This research evaluated the visual quality of photographic locations in Bantimurung NTA utilizing the Scenic Beauty Estimation (SBE) methodology. Data collection was conducted via questionnaires and photographic documentation. The data were assessed utilizing the SBE method to determine the visual quality of the landscape. The findings indicate that landscapes with low visual quality are dominated by artificial elements while landscapes with high visual quality are dominated by natural elements with their own uniqueness. Alternative development concept is offered for the photo spots based on their visual value assessment. Improved landscape management and accessibility to photographic locations are anticipated to augment the appeal of Bantimurung NTA as a tourist destination.
