Abstract

Telehealth and telemedicine have emerged as cutting-edge healthcare systems that facilitate virtual consultations between doctors and patients through video calls, telephonic consultations, and online platforms. This transformative approach has proved immensely beneficial for people living in remote areas, offering them a convenient means to access medical consultations without the need to physically visit a hospital. By eliminating the constraints of geographical distance, telehealth and telemedicine hold immense potential in bridging the gap between healthcare providers and patients in India. This comprehensive review aims to explore the origins, techniques, challenges, importance, and future opportunities of telehealth and telemedicine in India. By delving into these concepts, readers will develop a nuanced understanding of these innovative healthcare methods and their potential to reach a wide range of patients across the country. The review will shed light on the historical development and evolution of telehealth and telemedicine, elucidating the technological advancements that have facilitated their implementation in India's healthcare landscape. The review will also address the challenges encountered in implementing telehealth and telemedicine in India. Factors such as technological infrastructure, internet connectivity, digital literacy, and regulatory frameworks will be analyzed, as they significantly impact the successful adoption and scalability of these virtual healthcare systems. By acknowledging these challenges, the review aims to foster a deeper understanding of the current state of telehealth and telemedicine in India and the steps required to overcome barriers to their widespread implementation. The review will explore future opportunities and advancements in telehealth and telemedicine within the Indian context. It will examine emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence, remote monitoring devices, and data analytics, and their potential to enhance the effectiveness and reach of telehealth and telemedicine services. The review will also highlight the role of these systems in addressing healthcare disparities, improving preventive care, and augmenting overall healthcare outcomes in India. This review offers a comprehensive examination of telehealth and telemedicine in India, presenting their significance, challenges, and future prospects. By synthesizing these insights, readers will gain a nuanced understanding of how these innovative healthcare methods can contribute to bridging healthcare gaps and delivering quality care to a wide range of patients across India.

Abstract

Stroke remains a leading cause of mortality and long-term disability, particularly among individuals with chronic conditions living in rural areas. Self-care behavior plays a pivotal role in stroke prevention, yet limited evidence exists on how physical functioning influences such behaviors in high-risk populations. This study aimed to examine the relationship between functional status and self-care behavior among adults at high risk of stroke in rural. A cross-sectional correlational study was conducted among 100 adults aged 30 years and above who were identified as high risk for stroke using the Thai Cardiovascular Risk Score (≥20%). Participants were recruited from ten health-promoting hospitals using multi-stage random sampling. Functional status and self-care behavior were assessed using validated self-report questionnaires. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and Pearson’s correlation. Participants reported moderate levels of both functional status (M = 55.87, SD = 9.34) and self-care behavior (M = 65.42, SD = 6.78). A statistically significant positive correlation was found between functional status and self-care behavior (r = 0.392, p < 0.001), suggesting that higher functional ability is associated with better engagement in stroke-preventive behaviors. Functional status is a key determinant of self-care behavior in individuals at high risk of stroke. Nurses and healthcare professionals should prioritize interventions that enhance physical functioning to promote sustained self-care practices. Future research should investigate causal relationships and develop function-based health promotion strategies.

Abstract

Children with disabilities still lack equal access to various aspects of child welfare, including healthcare services, education, and adequate caregiving. Dental and oral health issues are among the areas often neglected, primarily due to limited motor skills and insufficient parental supervision in dental care. The aim of this literature review is to analyze the relationship between family support and the independence of children with intellectual disabilities in maintaining oral hygiene at home. This study employs a literature review method to identify factors influencing dental and oral health in children with intellectual disabilities. The literature for this study was obtained from reputable databases such as Google Scholar, ScienceDirect, and PubMed, with sources published within the last five years (2020–2025). The article selection process was conducted systematically using the PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses) approach to ensure transparency and accuracy. A total of ten research articles met the inclusion criteria for this review. All ten studies demonstrated a strong positive correlation between parental involvement and the oral hygiene status of children with special needs. Parent training programs were found to have a statistically significant impact on improving dental hygiene among children with autism. These findings highlight the need for continuous education and support for caregivers and parents in maintaining oral health in individuals with intellectual disabilities.

Abstract

Dietary adherence remains a significant challenge for individuals with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), particularly in culturally diverse and food-centered societies like India. Socio-cultural norms, food preferences, family roles, and emotional motivations play a critical role in shaping dietary behavior. This study aimed to explore the lived experiences of Indian adults with T2DM in adhering to dietary recommendations, with a focus on the social, cultural, and behavioral dimensions of diet compliance. A qualitative case study design with a positivist approach was used. Fourteen participants were recruited through snowball sampling from three Primary Health Centers in India. In-depth, semi-structured interviews were conducted, transcribed, and analyzed using thematic analysis. Trustworthiness was ensured through member checking, audit trails, and triangulation. Three major themes emerged: (1) Cultural Negotiation of Food Choices, (2) Internalizing Health Literacy and Self-Regulation, and (3) Family Roles and Emotional Anchors. Participants described the tension between traditional food practices and medical advice, the importance of translating dietary knowledge into practice, and the significant impact of family dynamics and emotional goals on adherence. Dietary adherence among Indian adults with T2DM is a culturally embedded and emotionally driven process. Health professionals must consider cultural traditions, family involvement, and emotional motivations when designing dietary interventions. Family-inclusive and context-specific educational strategies are essential to support sustained adherence

Abstract

The growing aging population in China has intensified the need for informal caregiving, predominantly provided by family members. While social support plays a crucial role in buffering caregiver burden, the dynamics of support and its associated factors in the Chinese context remain underexplored. This study aimed to assess perceived social support among family caregivers of older adults in China and identify key demographic factors associated with its variations. A cross-sectional study was conducted among 260 family caregivers recruited from urban and rural districts in Jiangsu Province using convenience sampling. Data were collected through self-administered questionnaires, including the Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support (MSPSS) and demographic profiles. Descriptive and inferential statistics were used to analyze the data. Caregivers reported the highest level of perceived social support from family members (M = 5.39), followed by significant others (M = 5.22), and friends (M = 4.88). Male caregivers and those with caregiving duration exceeding ten years reported significantly higher levels of support (p < 0.05). No significant associations were found with age, income, education, or caregiver training. Family remains the central pillar of social support for caregivers in China, with gender and caregiving experience influencing perceived support. These findings highlight the importance of culturally appropriate interventions and the need to strengthen external support networks to improve caregiver well-being.
