Abstract

The development of digital technology has created both opportunities and challenges for elementary school–aged children. Gadgets can serve as interactive learning media, sources of information, and tools for fostering creativity; however, uncontrolled use can lead to various negative impacts, including exposure to harmful content, reduced social interaction, and physical as well as mental health problems. This community service program aims to instill awareness of healthy digital literacy among elementary school students in South Kediri, West Lombok, as a preventive effort against the potential dangers of gadget use. The method employed is Participatory Action Research (PAR), involving teachers and students in stages of problem identification, planning, action implementation, observation, and evaluation. The outreach was conducted in four elementary schools (SDN 1, SDN 2, SDN 3, and SDN 4 Kediri Selatan) targeting fifth- and sixth-grade students through interactive lectures and educational games. The results show that students were highly enthusiastic and actively participated throughout the activities. Evaluation through pre-test and post-test revealed a significant improvement in students’ understanding—for instance, in managing gadget usage time (from 16% to 70%), recognizing harmful digital content (from 30% to 76%), and understanding media ethics (from 25% to 76%). These findings confirm that promoting healthy digital literacy effectively enhances students’ critical awareness and positive attitudes toward gadget use. Consequently, this program contributes to preventing the negative effects of gadgets while supporting the strengthening of character education in the digital era

Abstract

Natural Sciences (IPA) learning at the junior high school level still faces the problem of low student learning interest due to the dominance of conventional learning and limited practicum facilities. This community service activity aims to increase the interest and motivation to learn science for grade VIII students of SMPN 2 Mataram through the practice of making STEM-based teaching aids (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) in business and energy materials. The activity will be carried out in November 2025 by involving grade VIII students as the main participants. The implementation method includes the introduction of business and energy concepts, the practice of making simple teaching aids in groups, and evaluation through learning interest questionnaires and reflective discussions. The results showed that students were actively involved in the process of designing, manufacturing, and testing props, and showed high enthusiasm and participation during the learning process. The practice of making STEM-based props helps students understand the concepts of business and energy in a more concrete and contextual way. Based on the results of the evaluation, this activity has been proven to have a positive impact on increasing students' interest and motivation to learn science. Thus, the practice of making STEM-based teaching aids can be an effective and sustainable alternative to innovative learning to improve the quality of science learning at the junior high school level, even with limited laboratory facilities.

Abstract

This community service program aims to enhance teachers’ understanding and capacity in implementing the Merdeka Curriculum in Natural Science (IPA) learning at the junior high school level. The program was conducted through mentoring, training, and reflective activities on curriculum implementation at a partner school, namely SMPN 6 Mataram. The service activities employed a participatory approach consisting of several stages, including needs analysis, curriculum training, assistance in developing teaching modules, classroom implementation, and program evaluation. The results of the program indicate that teachers gained a more comprehensive understanding of the concept of the Merdeka Curriculum, the development of teaching modules, the application of project-based learning, and the implementation of formative and summative assessments. Furthermore, teachers were able to integrate the values of the Pancasila Student Profile into science learning through experimental activities, group discussions, and simple scientific projects. The mentoring activities also had a positive impact on enhancing teachers’ creativity in designing learning processes that are more contextual, flexible, and student-centered. This community service program is expected to serve as a model for strengthening the implementation of the Merdeka Curriculum in schools and to promote the improvement of science learning quality that is more innovative and relevant to the demands of the 21st century.
