Abstract

Islamic boarding colleges have many activities, both academic and non-academic. This causes some students to experience problems such as time management, relationships with friends, and other issues that lead to stress among students. Social support is one of the problem solvers used by these students. This research aims to understand the social problems commonly faced by student santris, the sources of social support available to student santris, and the forms of social support from parents, lecturers, and friends that can serve as coping mechanisms for the stress experienced by student santris. This research is a qualitative study with a phenomenological approach. The researcher aims to understand the phenomenon of what the research subjects experience related to perception behavior, motivation, actions, and experiences regarding forms of social support as a way to cope with stress in facing social problems at UNIDA Gontor. The results of this study indicate that the social problems commonly faced by student santris include issues such as discipline, friendship, and economic problems, while the social support for student santris is obtained from friends, parents, dormitory principals, academic and Islamic boarding University advisors, as well as the counseling team. The forms of social support provided to students experiencing stress include emotional support, recognition, and informational support, which can be ways to address the stress of students in facing social problems in the environment of Islamic boarding University higher education.

Abstract

Abstract. Raising children with autism presents ongoing emotional and psychological challenges. The aim of this research is to explore how social support and religiosity influence the well-being of parents raising children with autism. Following the PRISMA framework, this review analyzed 45 studies through a systematic literature review approach. The studies were selected using the PECO framework and assessed for quality with the Q-SSP and ROBINS-E tools. The participants in the reviewed studies consisted of parents or caregivers, with varying demographics, including age, gender, cultural background, and levels of religiosity. Various data collection techniques were employed, including qualitative interviews, quantitative surveys, and mixed-method approaches; analysis methods included thematic interpretation and statistical modeling. Findings show that social support reduces stress and improves coping abilities, particularly when parents receive consistent support from partners and communities. Religiosity contributes as a psychological and emotional coping resource by offering meaning, comfort, and resilience, though in certain contexts it may also lead to feelings of guilt or stigma. The influence of both factors varies across cultural and social settings. The results highlight the distinct but complementary roles of social support and religiosity in strengthening parental well-being. Integrating these elements into culturally sensitive intervention models may enhance support systems for parents. Future research should aim to examine integrative approaches that connect social and spiritual support strategies. Keywords: autism spectrum disorder; parental well-being; religiosity; social support; systematic review.

Abstract

Cultural considerations play a pivotal role in the diagnostic process of mental disorders, underscoring the necessity for clinicians to incorporate a cultural formulation in their assessments, as recommended by the DSM-5. This aligns with the fundamental principle of cultural competence essential for clinicians. This study seeks to investigate and elucidate the content of hallucinations and delusions experienced by psychotic patients of Javanese cultural background. This research used an authobiographical approach in qualitative research. Data for the research were derived from authobiographical source, specifically personal narratives of former patients documented in the book 'Ratu Adil'. Thematic analysis was employed for data analysis. Findings revealed a prevalence of delusional experiences over hallucinations among participants. Delusions and hallucinations frequently contained cultural elements, with Islamic themes being the most prominent, followed by Javanese, Chinese, and global cultural elements. The identified themes in the content of delusions and hallucinations depict manifestations of these cultural influences. In conclusion, this study underscores that the content and themes of delusions and hallucinations represent the participants' internal perceptions, often reflecting the external cultural milieu or environment.

Abstract

This study explores the role of Andhap Asor, a Javanese cultural value emphasizing humility and emotional restraint, as a coping mechanism for early adult women from broken home families. Using a qualitative approach with an intrinsic case study design, the research involved four Javanese women aged 20–30 who had experienced parental separation. Data were collected through semi-structured in-depth interviews, field notes, and non-participant observation, and analyzed using thematic analysis. Findings reveal four primary emotional regulation patterns: acceptance, suppression, distraction, and resilience. These strategies were deeply influenced by the internalization of Andhap Asor, which provided participants with a cultural framework to reinterpret emotional pain into personal growth. The value of Andhap Asor enabled participants to respond to emotional adversity with self-reflection, patience, and spiritual meaning—rather than with resentment or reactive behaviors. Thus, Andhap Asor serves as both an internal and social emotional regulation strategy, fostering psychological resilience and supporting interpersonal harmony. These findings highlight the significance of incorporating culturally grounded approaches in psychological interventions, particularly for individuals coping with the emotional impacts of family dysfunction.

Abstract

Khusyu’, as the core of devotion and even religion, has not been given enough attention in behavior measurement research. This study aims to adapt the Mindfulness during Worship Scale (MWS) to measure khusyu'. By formulating measurable dimensions and objective indicators, this research will make the quality of khusyu' easier to measure. It can provide the foundation for future research on what factors contribute to and hinder the attainment of khusyu' in prayer. A pilot study was conducted with 220 respondents from four age groups (15 - 20, 21 - 25, 26 - 30, and over 30). Three levels of analysis were conducted: item, construct, and theory level. The results indicate that the MWS-adapted items are valid when applied to all respondents, but not to 15-20 and 21-25. The reliability analysis showed an acceptable value (0.715) for the whole sample. However, variations were observed between the different age groups. However, the results of the CFA indicated an invalid model. Factor analysis also showed that adapted MWS items clustered into four distinct factors. In theory, the MWS can be applied to the cognitive domain and, to some extent, the emotional aspect, but it does not adequately capture the psychomotor dimension of khusyu'. Further research is needed to develop a theoretically robust and statistically valid measurement framework that includes cognition, emotion, and psychomotor dimensions and applies to all ages.

Abstract

Abstract. Optimism is a positive expectation within individuals shaped by various internal and external factors. This study aims to examine the Optimism Model with positive affect as a mediator in the relationship between self-esteem, proactive personality, school connectedness, and parental attachment toward optimism among vocational high school students. The research was conducted quantitatively on 896 twelfth-grade students in Surakarta using simple random sampling. Data were collected using six standardized psychological scales: Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale (RSES), Proactive Personality Scale (PPS), Measurement of School Connectedness (MOSC), Parental Attachment Scale, Life Orientation Test-Revised (LOT-R), and the Positive and Negative Affect Schedule (PANAS). Data analysis was carried out using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) with Lisrel 9.10. The result indicate that the proposed model demonstrated good fit across several indices, supporting its structural validity. All four exogenous variables significantly influenced positive affect. However, positive affect did not significantly mediate optimism (t=0.53). optimism was more strongly influenced directly by self-esteem, proactive personality, and parental attachment. Although school connectedness showed no significant direct or indirect effects, its total contribution remained meaningful. These findings suggest that positive emotional experience is not the only pathway to optimism and highlight the direct role of psychosocial factors in fostering optimism among vocational students. Keywords: optimism; parental attachment; positive affect; proactive personality; school connectedness; self-esteem Abstrak. Instrumen pengumpulan data terdiri dari enam skala psikologis terstandar: Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale (RSES), Proactive Personality Scale (PPS), Measurement of School Connectedness (MOSC), Skala Kelekatan Orang Tua, Life Orientation Test-Revised (LOT-R), dan Positive and Negative Affect Schedule (PANAS).

Abstract

Financial well-being is a key indicator of individual welfare and family financial resilience. However, the absence of a standardized Indonesian measurement tool hinders research in this area. This study aimed to adapt the widely used unidimensional In Charge Financial Distress/Financial Well-Being (IFDFW) scale and to provide comprehensive validity evidence for its use in Indonesia. The research was conducted in two main stages: a cross-cultural adaptation and a psychometric validation. Data were collected from 150 workers aged 20–50 across Indonesia using an online survey and a purposive sampling technique. The analysis included Aiken's V and FVI coefficients to assess content validity and response processes, as well as Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) to confirm the scale's internal structure. The study also examined the scale's convergent validity through correlation tests with the Personal Financial Wellness Questionnaire. The results showed that the adapted scale has acceptable content validity (Aiken's V = 0.68) and a high level of clarity (FVI = 0.88). The CFA demonstrated good model fit (CFI = 0.97, TLI = 0.96, RMSEA = 0.08) and high internal reliability (w = 0.89). Additionally, the scale showed significant correlations with the subjective perspective, financial behaviour, and financial satisfaction dimensions of financial wellness. These findings confirm that the 8-item Indonesian version of the IFDFW scale is a valid and reliable instrument. Researchers can use this tool to advance financial well-being studies and for practitioners to design effective financial literacy interventions in Indonesia
