Abstract

University students often face emotional pressure due to academic demands and social expectations, making emotional regulation an essential skill. This study aims to explore the relationship between self-compassion and emotional intelligence among students, using the Korean drama When Life Gives You Tangerines as a reflective emotional context. The drama was selected for its strong depiction of self-compassion values relevant to students' emotional challenges. Using a quantitative correlational approach, the study involved 32 randomly selected students and utilized a Likert-scale questionnaire to measure both variables. Data analysis through Pearson Product-Moment correlation revealed a positive and significant relationship between self-compassion and emotional intelligence (r = 0.272; p = 0.028). Although the correlation falls within the low category, the result indicates that higher self-compassion is associated with better emotional understanding and regulation. These findings highlight the importance of fostering self-compassion as a foundational element in developing emotional intelligence and supporting students' psychological well-being.

Abstract

This article aims to explore the role of outdoor learning in Islamic education, focusing on how contextual learning can enhance students' social skills and faith. The study investigates how outdoor activities, when integrated into the Islamic curriculum, provide real-world experiences that foster the development of both spiritual values and interpersonal abilities. This study uses a library research approach, analyzing existing literature on outdoor learning, Islamic education, and their impact on social skills and faith development. The research draws on both classical and contemporary studies, examining how Islamic education can benefit from outdoor learning environments and contextual learning strategies. The findings show that outdoor learning can significantly improve students' social skills by offering opportunities for collaborative learning, problem-solving, and interaction with diverse environments. Additionally, these learning experiences align with Islamic teachings, enhancing students' faith and understanding of their role in society. The study suggests that integrating outdoor learning in Islamic education can be an effective strategy to improve students' social interaction, teamwork, and religious understanding. It emphasizes the importance of creating learning environments that extend beyond the classroom to promote holistic development in students, fostering both intellectual and moral growth.

Abstract

The Nggana ro Nggoa tradition is part of the local wisdom of the Mbojo Muslim community in Wora Village related to the cycle of life, especially the birth of children. This research aims to: First, to describe the procession of the Nggana ro Nggoa ceremony tradition in the Mbojo Muslim community. Second, to reveal the symbolic meaning contained in each stage of the ceremony. Third, analyze the social, cultural, and religious functions of the tradition in people's lives. This research uses a descriptive qualitative approach. Data collection techniques included participatory observation, in-depth interviews with traditional leaders, parents, and religious leaders, and documentation of the ceremony procession. Data were analyzed thematically through the stages of data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. Data validity was strengthened with source and method triangulation techniques. Based on the results of the research, it was found that this ceremony includes a series of stages, such as Kiri Loko, Cafi Sari, Baka Sari, Boru Honggo, Aqiqah, and Dore. Each stage has symbols and values: yellow rice (wura bongi monca) symbolizes hope for blessings, one cent as an economic reminder, eggs and coconut oil as a symbol of safety, as well as prayers and Islamic naming as a form of integration of religious values. The symbols in the ceremony contain religious, social, and moral meanings, such as hope for the safety, welfare, and future of the child. This tradition also functions as a medium for value education, preservation of cultural identity, strengthening social solidarity, and a means of religious expression for the community. Thus, Nggana ro Nggoa is not only a traditional ritual, but also a reflection of the harmony between Islamic values and local culture.

Abstract

This study aims to improve students’ learning outcomes through the utilization of the school’s surrounding environment as a learning resource in science education. The classroom action research was conducted at MTsN 2 Pangandaran involving ninth-grade students in the 2024/2025 academic year. The research was carried out in two cycles consisting of planning, action, observation, and reflection stages. Data were collected through learning achievement tests, student activity observations, and documentation. The results showed a significant improvement in students’ science learning outcomes, from an average score of 70.25 in the first cycle to 83.60 in the second cycle, along with increased activeness and scientific attitudes. The use of the local environment as a natural laboratory made learning more contextual, meaningful, and relevant to students’ daily lives. The findings highlight that environment-based learning effectively enhances science learning quality and encourages teachers to design innovative lessons rooted in local wisdom and environmental sustainability values.

Abstract

This study aims to enhance students’ conceptual understanding and scientific process skills through the implementation of environment-based Deep Learning in biotechnology learning. The classroom action research employed the Kemmis and McTaggart model, conducted in two cycles at MTsN 3 Pangandaran involving 24 ninth-grade students. Each cycle consisted of planning, action, observation, and reflection stages. The learning activities engaged students in producing tape (fermented cassava) as a local biotechnological product with probiotic potential. Data were collected through participatory observation, product assessment, motivation questionnaires, and student reflection journals, then analyzed qualitatively using triangulation techniques. The results indicated significant improvement in students’ engagement, scientific reasoning, and understanding of fermentation and probiotic mechanisms. Ninety-two percent of the student groups produced tape of optimal quality, while 87% demonstrated the ability to explain the relationship between fermentation processes and probiotic health benefits. Furthermore, the learning process fostered creativity, contextual thinking, and awareness of local potential. In conclusion, the implementation of environment-based Deep Learning effectively promotes contextual, meaningful, and science-literate biotechnology learning that integrates local resources with 21st-century competencies.

Abstract

Science learning at the Islamic Junior High School (Madrasah Tsanawiyah) level requires meaningful connections between scientific concepts and real-life phenomena familiar to students. One relevant contextual learning resource is the use of local food materials, such as guava (Psidium guajava), which is rich in vitamin C. This study aims to analyze the effect of science learning based on scientific literacy through the study of vitamin C content in guava on students’ understanding of biological system concepts, particularly the role of nutrients in collagen formation, among ninth-grade students of MTs YPK Cijulang, Pangandaran Regency. The research employed a quasi-experimental method with a one-group pretest–posttest design. The research subjects were ninth-grade students who participated in science learning using contextual teaching materials based on local food resources. Research instruments included a conceptual understanding test and student activity observation sheets. The results showed an improvement in students’ conceptual understanding after the implementation of contextual learning, as indicated by higher posttest scores compared to pretest scores. Science learning that integrates nutrition concepts, vitamins, and human biological systems using guava as a study object effectively enhanced student engagement and scientific literacy. Therefore, the use of local context in science learning has the potential to improve learning quality and conceptual understanding of ninth-grade MTs students.
