Abstract

Physical limitations and intelligence of children with special needs (ABK) cause a lack of maintenance of oral health. Maintenance of dental and oral health that is less than optimal causes children with special needs to experience problems with their teeth and mouth (dental caries). The high prevalence of dental caries causes the masticatory function is not optimal. Dental caries can be prevented by sufficient calcium and fluoride in the teeth, such as the consumption of anchovies. So there is a need for training in the manufacture of processed anchovy sausages for mothers of children with special needs "Karunia Ilahi". This Community Service aims to help parents in processing seafood dishes in order to improve the dental and oral health of children with special needs. The method of implementing the activity begins with the 5- table PosKesGi activity followed by training on making anchovy sausages for 30 women from the “Karunia Ilahi” community. After that, the cadres will be monitored for their activities in PosKesGi activities for 1 month. The results obtained were an increase in ABK discipline in brushing teeth. After consuming anchovy sausage, 10% of participants (3 people) experienced itching on the surface of the oral mucosa. Consumption of anchovy as much as 50 grams per day is recommended to optimize bone growth and prevent dental caries

Abstract

Even though 94.2% of people have brushed their teeth every day, only 2.3% did it at the right time, namely after breakfast and before going to bed at night. This has an impact on the emergence of dental health problems, namely caries. Caries can affect the level of health in the process of growth and development and the future of children, such as a decrease in children's learning ability which can affect learning achievement. This educational activity aims to enable target students to keep their teeth and mouth clean, they can be disciplined in caring for their teeth, using the GIGI.ID application. This educational activity was carried out in collaboration with PT. Senyum Sehat Indonesia provides education about dental health using the GIGI.ID application is the first telemedicine application that focuses on dental and oral health in Indonesia. GIGI.ID is a digital social enterprise startup that focuses on equal access to promotive and preventive health, especially dental and oral health for the people of Indonesia. The location of this community service activity is SD Negeri Seberang Masjid 1 Banjarmasin. Students, parents, and teachers understand the process of dental caries, and actions to prevent damage to teeth, and can practice how to brush their teeth properly and use the GIGI.ID application to get information about dental health care. Students know how important it is to maintain healthy teeth and mouth, and are able to practice how to brush their teeth properly.

Abstract

Children with special needs (ABK) are children with limited development of physical and mental conditions characterized by behavior or emotions. In this case, a child with disabilities is a child who has abnormalities or defects in the muscular, bone, joint and nervous systems caused by diseases, viruses, accidents both before birth, at birth and after birth. Limitations that become obstacles in brushing teeth in a good and correct way cause high dental and oral health problems in children with disabilities. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of using elastomeric toothbrushes to improve brushing skills and reduce debris index rates in children with disabilities. The assessment of this program uses a health system approach, namely: Input – Process – Output. The results of toothbrushing skills in children with disabilities were found significant changes between the results before and after the intervention with statistical tests paired sample t-test and Wilcoxon with p-values of 0.001 and 0.017 (<0.05) respectively, which means that the use of toothbrushes made from elastomers is effective for improving brushing skills and reducing debris index in children with disabilities. The problem solving program for children with disabilities in SLBN Jepara is to implement innovative toothbrush models with elastomer materials for children with disabilities and conduct training on how to brush teeth properly and correctly for children with disabilities

Abstract

As we get older, the function of the body's organs will decrease (organ degeneration), both due to natural factors and due to disease. An estimated 30% of the elderly aged 65 years and older have decreased salivary production. This situation is caused by atrophy in the salivary glands (saliva) which will reduce saliva production and change its composition. Decreased salivary secretion will cause discomfort in the oral cavity, pain, an increase in the level of dental caries and oral infections. Facial gymnastics is the act of giving massage to the facial area from top to bottom around the cheeks, mouth and chin, this activity can stimulate salivary secretion and oral cavity function, from the results of research (Medina, 2018) facial gymnastics can increase the speed of salivary flow. In addition to facial exercises, salivary flow can also be stimulated by pineapple consumption. Pineapple proved effective in inducing saliva production is pineapple citric acid content in pineapple fruit can stimulate existing salivary glands, namely parotid, submandibularis, sublingualis and additional glands. The results of community service showed. The elderly's knowledge about saliva production has increased and followed by an improvement in quality of life. This is because facial gymnastics activities are carried out regularly for 21 days. Activities that are carried out repeatedly will become a conditioning and habit. Furthermore, there is a learning process, namely the transformation of input / input then reduced, elaborated and then stored in the memory of Notoatmojo (2012).
