Objectives: This systematic literature review examines how the concepts of 'unlearning and relearning' (Goodwin) can be reconceptualized as a new epistemological framework for the indigenization of educational policies in developing nations during the period 2000–2026, and how this framework can address the gap between global policy borrowing and meaningful local implementation. Methods: A systematic search was conducted across multiple databases (Scopus, ERIC, Web of Science) using keywords related to policy transfer, indigenization, unlearning, educational reform, and developing nations. The review synthesized 86 peer-reviewed sources published between 2000 and 2026, following PRISMA guidelines. Thematic analysis identified patterns in how developing countries conceptualize, implement, and adapt educational policies borrowed from global high-performing education systems. Findings: The literature reveals a critical paradox: while developing nations eagerly adopt policies from high-performing education systems (HPES), insiders within these systems consistently question their own effectiveness and doubt the transferability of their approaches. The concept of unlearning—strategic abandonment of ineffective policies regardless of their prestige—emerged as a crucial but underexplored dimension of meaningful policy indigenization. Three typologies of indigenization approaches were identified: (1) surface adaptation (cosmetic changes without substantive transformation), (2) systematic alignment (coherence across teacher education, curriculum, and classroom practice), and (3) epistemological reconstruction (redefining core educational values according to local contexts and knowledge systems). Developing nations in Southeast Asia demonstrated the greatest success when combining systematic alignment with epistemological reconstruction, supported by sustained political will and capacity building. Conclusion: The unlearning-relearning paradigm offers developing nations a theoretically grounded and empirically supported framework for moving beyond mere policy borrowing toward authentic indigenization. Rather than perpetually chasing international benchmarks, this approach enables countries to critically evaluate borrowed policies, abandon what proves ineffective in their context, and revitalize local knowledge systems in educational practices.

Background: Table tennis athlete performance is shaped by a complex interaction of biological, psychological, and social factors. However, existing research has largely examined these dimensions in isolation, leaving a gap in holistic performance models applicable to the sport. Objective: This systematic literature review aims to identify, synthesize, and map multidimensional determinants of table tennis athlete performance based on a biopsychosocial approach and to formulate an agenda for developing an integrated athlete performance model. Method: A systematic search was conducted across five major databases—PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, SPORTDiscus, and Google Scholar—using PRISMA 2020 guidelines. A total of 40 studies published between 2015 and 2024 were included after applying inclusion and exclusion criteria. Studies were assessed for quality using the Mixed Methods Appraisal Tool (MMAT). Results: Three principal determinant clusters were identified: (1) biological factors including physiological capacity, anthropometry, biomechanics, and motor skills; (2) psychological factors including mental toughness, attention, motivation, and coping strategies; and (3) social factors including coaching quality, family support, peer dynamics, and socioeconomic context. An integrative biopsychosocial performance model was proposed, incorporating cross-domain interactions. Conclusion: No single-factor model is sufficient to explain table tennis performance. Future research should prioritize longitudinal designs and cross-cultural validation of the proposed integrated model.

This study presents a comprehensive bibliometric and systematic literature review of global research trends in table tennis performance from 2000 to 2024. Using Scopus and Web of Science databases, a total of 1,247 documents were retrieved and analyzed through VOSviewer and Bibliometrix software. The analysis encompasses publication trends, co-authorship networks, keyword clustering, and citation patterns across 89 countries. Findings reveal a significant acceleration in research output post-2015, with China, Germany, and Japan emerging as dominant contributors. Six major thematic clusters were identified: biomechanics and stroke technique, training methodology and periodization, physiological demands and fitness profiling, psychological factors and mental performance, technology-assisted coaching, and talent identification and youth development. The results indicate a growing emphasis on interdisciplinary approaches combining sports science, data analytics, and artificial intelligence in performance analysis. Emerging themes include wearable sensor applications, machine learning for stroke classification, and mental resilience frameworks. This review provides a structured overview of the field's evolution, identifies research gaps particularly in para-table tennis and long-term athlete development, and offers evidence-based recommendations for future research priorities. The findings are expected to guide scholars, coaches, and sports organizations in advancing the scientific understanding of table tennis performance.
