Abstract

Nutritional intake plays a vital role in supporting cognitive processes, particularly learning concentration among school-aged children. This narrative review examines the relationship between nutritional intake, learning concentration, and academic achievement. A systematic search through Google Scholar, PubMed, and Scimago identified 56 articles published between 2015 and 2024, of which nine met the inclusion criteria. The selected studies were analyzed thematically based on nutritional status, energy and protein adequacy, and the effects of nutrition education. The findings show that daily nutritional intake especially adequate energy and protein consumption and regular breakfast habits has a more direct and consistent influence on learning concentration than anthropometric nutritional status. Energy adequacy contributed 36.2% to concentration levels, and nutrition education significantly improved students’ energy and protein intake (p = 0.005). In contrast, several studies reported no significant association between nutritional status and academic achievement, indicating that concentration depends more on immediate nutrient availability than long-term health indicators. This review concludes that adequate nutritional intake is essential for sustaining attention and improving students’ learning outcomes. Schools should implement structured nutrition education, promote regular breakfast consumption, and support access to balanced meals. Future research should explore interactions between nutrition, sleep, physical activity, and socioeconomic factors to better understand the multifactorial determinants of concentration.

Abstract

High-Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) is an effective training method for enhancing athletic performance through physiological adaptations in the body’s energy systems. This literature review aims to analyze the effectiveness of HIIT in promoting aerobic energy system adaptations in athletes based on current scientific evidence. Articles were retrieved from the Scopus, DOAJ, and Google Scholar databases using the keywords “High-Intensity Interval Training,” “HIIT,” “aerobic,” “VO₂max,” “energy system adaptation,” and “athlete,” covering publications from 2020–2025. Based on inclusion and exclusion criteria, five articles were analyzed in depth using the annotated bibliography method. The findings indicate that HIIT consistently improves VO₂max, aerobic capacity, energy metabolism efficiency, and athletes’ cardiovascular endurance. HIIT protocols with an intensity of 80–95% HRmax and training duration of 3–8 weeks have been shown to effectively produce significant physiological adaptations. Moreover, adjusting work–rest intervals according to the characteristics of each sport has a positive impact on competitive performance enhancement. This review confirms that HIIT is an efficient and evidence-based training strategy for improving athletes’ aerobic capacity. However, further large-scale experimental research is needed to strengthen the generalization of these findings.

Abstract

Basketball requires athletes to possess good physical conditioning, particularly aerobic and anaerobic endurance, to support high-intensity and repeated activities during a game. Therefore, assessing athletes’ physical condition is essential to evaluate their capabilities and to design appropriate training programs. This study aimed to determine the aerobic and anaerobic endurance profiles of male basketball athletes at Paradice Basketball Academy Surau Gading in 2025. This study employed a quantitative descriptive approach using a survey method through testing and measurement. The research subjects consisted of 10 athletes who completed all testing procedures. Anaerobic endurance was measured using the Running-based Anaerobic Sprint Test (RAST), while aerobic endurance was assessed using the Multistage Fitness Test (MFT) to estimate VO₂max values. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, including frequency, percentage, mean, minimum, maximum, and standard deviation. The results showed that 70% of the athletes were classified in the good category for anaerobic endurance (mean fatigue index = 7.42; SD = 3.94; min = 0.83; max = 12.33), while 50% of the athletes were categorized as moderate for aerobic endurance (mean VO₂max = 42.65; SD = 5.93; min = 33.2; max = 50.8). These findings indicate that although the athletes demonstrate relatively good anaerobic capacity, their aerobic endurance still needs improvement through a balanced training program.
