Abstract

Background: Domestic waste has become an increasingly significant environmental challenge due to population growth, urbanization, and changing consumption patterns. The increasing volume of household waste places substantial pressure on waste management systems and contributes to environmental degradation, public health risks, and social problems. Limited infrastructure and low public awareness further hinder effective waste management, making the adoption of environmentally friendly technologies essential for sustainable development. Objectives: This study aims to review technological innovations and approaches in domestic waste management and evaluate their effectiveness in reducing waste generation and supporting environmental sustainability. Methods: A literature review was conducted using 20 relevant scientific articles retrieved from the Google Scholar database. The selected studies were analyzed to identify current trends, challenges, and opportunities in domestic waste management technologies. Results: The findings indicate that various technologies, including composting, eco-enzymes, bioplastics derived from agricultural waste, liquid organic fertilizers, and automated composting systems, effectively reduce waste volume, produce value-added products, and enhance environmental awareness. However, the implementation of these technologies is constrained by low community participation, inadequate facilities, and limited policy support. Conclusion: Technology-based domestic waste management offers considerable potential to improve environmental sustainability and reduce waste-related impacts. Its successful implementation requires strong stakeholder collaboration, supportive policies, community engagement, and continuous innovation to achieve an effective and sustainable waste management system. Abstract

Background: Solid waste consists of discarded materials generated from human activities and natural processes in solid form. Rapid population growth and urbanization in Indonesia have significantly increased waste generation, creating challenges in collection, treatment, and disposal systems. Despite national policies promoting waste reduction and sustainable management, waste handling remains largely dependent on landfill disposal. Composting has emerged as an effective approach for managing organic waste by reducing landfill burdens while producing valuable soil amendments. Objectives: This study aimed to assess solid waste management through composting technology and evaluate its implications for public health and environmental sustainability. Method: A systematic review was conducted using secondary data obtained from scientific articles, research reports, and publications related to solid waste management, composting technology, and public health. Results: The review showed that composting and community-based waste management initiatives improve waste handling efficiency, reduce pressure on landfills, enhance public participation, and support environmental conservation. Compost production from organic waste improves soil fertility and reduces environmental pollution. However, challenges remain, including inadequate infrastructure, limited community engagement, and the growing proportion of non-biodegradable waste. Conclusion: Composting technology provides environmental, economic, and public health benefits by reducing waste volume, mitigating pollution, lowering greenhouse gas emissions, and promoting healthier living environments. Abstract

Background : Air pollution is a global health threat, triggering respiratory and cardiovascular diseases, and even premature death. Urbanization, the increasing number of motorized vehicles, and industrial activity exacerbate pollution in densely populated areas. This situation demands an accurate, rapid, and accessible real-time air quality monitoring system to support public health prevention and protection. Objective: This study aims to review various air quality monitoring technologies that have been developed, and to analyze the benefits of their application in improving public health. Methods : A Systematic Literature Review (SLR) was conducted by collecting and analyzing articles from Google Scholar, following the PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses) framework. Articles published between 2020 and 2025 were reviewed using the keywords "air quality," "air pollution," "Internet of Things," "public health," and "monitoring". Results: Literature shows that Internet of Things (IoT)-based monitoring technology is capable of detecting pollutants such as PM2.5, CO, NO₂, SO₂, and O₃ in real time with high accuracy. This system has early warning, is integrated with an Android or web application, and has a sensor accuracy of over 90%. Furthermore, the use of drones and machine learning algorithms has shown promising results in estimating air quality index and supporting public health programs. Conclusion: IoT-based air quality monitoring technology has proven effective, accurate, and accessible, making it useful in preventing the impact of air pollution on public health. Future developments will focus on improving sensor accuracy, utilizing 5G networks, and integrating cloud-based data for a more comprehensive monitoring system. Abstract

Background: Air pollution is a major environmental and public health concern resulting from industrial activities, transportation, and fossil fuel combustion. Increasing population growth and economic development contribute to higher emissions of pollutants, including particulate matter, carbon monoxide, sulfur dioxide, nitrogen oxides, and volatile organic compounds. Exposure to these pollutants is associated with respiratory diseases, cardiovascular disorders, and impaired cognitive function, particularly among vulnerable populations such as children, older adults, and individuals with chronic illnesses. Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of air filtration technologies in reducing exposure to air pollutants and mitigating associated health risks. Methods: A literature review was conducted using journal articles, research reports, and secondary data from international and national health organizations. Relevant studies on air pollution and filtration technologies were systematically analyzed. Results: The review indicated that both outdoor and indoor air pollution significantly affect public health. Air filtration technologies, including HEPA filters, electrostatic filtration systems, and optimized ventilation designs, reduced airborne pollutant concentrations by up to 90–95% in industrial and healthcare settings. Their effectiveness depends on appropriate design, maintenance, and operational practices. Conclusion: Air filtration technology is an effective strategy for reducing pollution-related health risks. However, its successful implementation requires supportive policies, public awareness, and multisectoral collaboration to achieve sustainable environmental health outcomes. Abstract

Background: Clean water is a fundamental human need essential for drinking, cooking, sanitation, and other daily activities. Water quality is closely associated with public health because contaminated water can transmit infectious diseases such as diarrhea, cholera, dysentery, and skin infections. Rapid population growth and urbanization have increased the demand for clean water, while many raw water sources require treatment before they are safe for consumption. Objective: This study aimed to analyze the stages of clean water treatment, including coagulation, flocculation, sedimentation, filtration, and disinfection, and evaluate their effectiveness in producing water that meets health standards. Methods: A literature review was conducted using 25 national and international journal articles retrieved from Google Scholar. Data were analyzed descriptively by comparing the effectiveness of each treatment stage in improving water quality. Results: The review showed that each treatment stage plays a complementary role in removing suspended particles, organic matter, microorganisms, and other contaminants. Combined treatment processes consistently improved water quality and reduced health risks. Conclusion: Effective water treatment is essential for ensuring safe water supplies and protecting public health. Strengthening infrastructure and treatment systems remains necessary to improve water access and quality. Methods: This study adopts a descriptive design with a quantitative approach, using secondary data derived from patient medical records. A total of 308 patients who met the inclusion and exclusion requirements were included in the sample. Results: According to the findings of the research, mostpatientsbelongtothelatetoadvancedadultagegroup,with a greaternumberofmalepatientsthanwomen.Mostpatientshaveasecondaryeducationlevelandworkin the privateandinformalsectors.Basedonthelengthoftreatment they have , the majorityofpatientsareinaperiodof1-3yearswhichindicatestheadaptationphasetothehemodialysisprocedure. Conclusion: Patients with chronic kidney failure at Bahteramas Hospital are dominated by middle- aged to advanced age groups, male, well educated, and working in the informal sector. Improved health education, routine monitoring, and social support are needed to maintain quality of life and prevent long-term complications. Abstract

Background: Hypertension is one of the most common cardiovascular diseases experienced by people around the world. The occurrence of hypertension is influenced by various risk factors such as age, gender, occupation, and level of education. Objective: To describe hypertension cases at Wanggudu Raya Health Center based on gender, age, occupation, and education variables. Methods: This research is descriptive in nature and was carried out at Wanggudu Raya Health Center in 2024. The data used were secondary data obtained from medical records of hypertension patients during that year. The population in this study amounted to 193 people. Results: The characteristics of hypertension sufferers were dominated by female patients aged 45–59 years. The majority of respondents were housewives with a senior high-school education level. Conclusion: The population most affected by hypertension in the Wanggudu Raya Health Center working area consisted of women aged 45–59 years, working as housewives, and having a senior high-school education level. Abstract

Background: Hyperglycemia is a condition when blood glucose levels in the body are high, characterized by polyuria, polydipsia, polyphagia, severe fatigue, and blurred vision. If Diabetes Mellitus is not treated quickly, it can trigger complications such as heart disease, kidney disease, skin and nerve disorders. Objectives: To determine the characteristics of DM patients according to age, gender, education, occupation and duration of suffering. Methods: This type of research is descriptive with the location of the study at the Paka Indah Health Center, North Konawe Regency. The data collection period was carried out in January - September 2025. The sample in this study were DM patients who received health services according to standards in the period January - September 2025 as many as 25 samples from the health center's medical records. Results: The majority of patients >60 years and above are (48%), female (64%), elementary school education level (48%), working (68%), duration of suffering <5 years (68%). Conclusion: Type 2 DM patients at Paka Indah Community Health Center, North Konawe are dominated by the Early Elderly group, women, elementary school students, working, and have a duration of less than 5 years.  Keywords: Diabetes Millitus Tipe II, Heath Service, Education Status, Blood Glucose, Medical Records.

Abstract

Background: Hypertension is a condition in which blood pressure in the blood vessels reaches 140/90 mmHg or higher. Unhealthy eating habits and lack of physical activity contribute significantly to the development of hypertension. This disease is one of the leading causes of death worldwide because it is usually asymptomatic but can cause sudden death. According to a 2019 WHO report, approximately 1.28 billion adults aged 30 to 79 suffer from hypertension. Globally, hypertension is estimated to affect around 22% of the world's population, with about two-thirds of sufferers coming from low- to middle-income countries. In 2015, it was estimated that one in four men and one in five women suffered from hypertension. Objective: To provide an overview of the distribution of hypertension based on available data obtained from secondary health profile data in the working area of the Kambowa Community Health Center in 2024. Methods: This study used a quantitative descriptive approach using data collected from the Kambowa Community Health Center in North Buton District in 2024. Results: Based on the analysis, the highest prevalence of hypertension was found in women, namely 10.67%, with 4% receiving health services. The highest prevalence was found in Lahumako Village, namely 31 people (42%). Conclusion: Analysis of hypertension based on gender shows that women are more vulnerable than men and are influenced by factors such as service provision and place of residence. In terms of health services, there are limitations in facilities, a lack of competent health workers, irregular recording and reporting, and a lack of coordination between programs and sectors. In addition, limited human resources, suboptimal targeting processes, and low public awareness also play a role. The distribution of hypertension based on place of residence shows that Lahumoko Village has the highest number of patients, while Bubu Barat Village has the lowest number of patients, while other villages show relatively balanced figures. Abstract

Background: Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) remains a global health issue. Southeast Sulawesi, particularly Kendari City, has experienced an increase in HIV cases in recent years. Understanding the prevalence and characteristics of patients is crucial for planning effective health interventions. Objective: To determine the prevalence and characteristics of HIV patients based on year, age, gender, and occupation in the working area of the Mokoau Community Health Center, Kendari City, for the period 2021–2024. Method: This study used a descriptive approach utilizing secondary data from HIV program reports at the Mokoau Community Health Center. The research subjects included all HIV patients recorded between 2021 and 2024, with a total of 56 cases. The sampling technique used was total sampling. Descriptive analysis was performed on variables such as year of occurrence, age, gender, and occupation. Results: The highest number of HIV cases was recorded in 2023 (58.9%), with the dominant age groups being 20–24 years (46.4%) and 25–49 years (14.3%). The majority of patients were male (80.4%). Based on occupation, 39.3% of cases came from groups with unknown employment status, followed by employees and students, each accounting for 26.8%. Conclusion: HIV infection in the Mokoau Community Health Center working area is dominated by men of productive age, with an upward trend in cases in the middle of the study period. These findings confirm the need for prevention interventions targeting young people and adults of productive age, increased access to HIV testing, and outreach to key populations based on local characteristics.
