Abstract

In this study, an interactive learning medium was developed to practice German A1-level vocabulary with the theme “Freizeit”, based on a website created using Genially. This research is classified as development research, in which the development process of the learning medium employed the ADDIE model, consisting of five stages: analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. The study was conducted in the German Language Education Study Program at Universitas Negeri Medan. The research data consisted of vocabulary on the theme “Freizeit”, taken from the Netzwerk textbook and other online sources. The research subjects were second-semester students of the 2024 cohort. The instruments used included questionnaires, pretest and posttest, expert validation sheets, and documentation. The results of the validation from media experts and material experts indicated that the medium was suitable for use in learning, with scores of 92% and 89%, respectively. The trial conducted with students showed a positive response with an average score of 91%. The students’ average pretest score was 58.3, which increased to 84.7 in the posttest. Statistical tests revealed that the calculated t-value (12.45) was greater than the critical t-table value (2.045), indicating a significant difference between the pretest and posttest results. Thus, the use of the Genially interactive learning medium proved effective in improving German A1 vocabulary mastery and was able to create a more engaging and interactive learning atmosphere while supporting independent learning.

Abstract

The absence of a father or fatherlessness in a family is a serious problem that affects children's social, psychological, and educational development. This condition becomes even more complex when experienced by street children who live in limited economic conditions and lack family support. The purpose of this study is to reveal the social life of street children on Jalan Krakatau Ujung, Medan Deli District, find the factors that cause fatherlessness, and study the consequences. This study is a qualitative study conducted through a descriptive approach. Data were collected through documentation and in-depth interviews with street children, parents, and community leaders. The results of the study show that the factors causing fatherlessness include divorce, abandonment, and the death of the father. Fathers may also migrate or engage in deviant behavior, such as drug abuse. Children without parents have visible impacts in the form of psychological vulnerability, such as loneliness, lack of self-control, and lack of self-confidence; social impacts, such as difficulty socializing, vulnerability to bullying and exploitation; and educational impacts, such as lack of desire to learn and limited access to education. The lives of street children at the traffic light intersection on Jalan Krakatau Ujung show weak family functioning, especially the role of the father, which encourages children to earn their own living from an early age.

Abstract

The era of globalization is an era of quality competition, where only thosebwith high competence will be able to compete in the free market. Therefore, developing high-quality human resources is something that cannot be compromised. Education that supports development in this era is education that can foster students’ potential’ enabling them toface and overcome life’s challenges. Thus, in the learning process, teachers should not only serve as models or sources of knowledge but also act as learning managers. As learning managers, teachers play an important role in creating a learning environment that allows students to learn confortably and effectively. Based on observations at SMA Negeri 2 Taniwel, it was found that students in class X-2 have low learning outcomes in sociology. The writer’s observation in class indicated that sociology learning was dominated by lecture methods, resulting in students being less active during the learning process. According to research conducted by Al Muchtar (1991), learning in social studies education does not sufficiently simulate students to be actively involved in the learning process. Furthermore, the teaching and learning process of social studies carried out bye teachers has not been able to faster a learning culture among students, wich in turn significantly affects their learning achievement and outcomes. To support active learning strategies, teachers can apply various relevant learning models. Therefore, the learning process will become more varied, innovative, and constructive, creating interaction between teachers and students, among students themselves, and between students and other learning resources.

Abstract

This study aimed to develop a simple acid-base reaction-based screening method for distinguishing between GMO (Genetically Modified Organism) and non-GMO soybeans as a practical alternative to expensive and expensive molecular methods. Twenty GMO soybean samples, 20 non-GMO samples, and three mixtures with ratios of 10%, 25%, and 50% were analyzed using 0.01–0.1 N HCl and 0.1 N NaOH solutions. Observation parameters included color change, pH, and absorbance using a UV-Vis spectrophotometer. The results showed that at a concentration of 0.01 N HCl, the color difference was most pronounced. The GMO sample solution showed a red color, while the non-GMO sample solution showed a green color. At higher concentrations, the differences became more subtle or difficult to distinguish. Validation using a PCR assay as the gold standard yielded sensitivity, specificity, and accuracy of >95%, indicating the reliability of this method as an initial screening technique. This physicochemical approach is considered effective for rapid, inexpensive, and easily implemented screening in food industry laboratories, particularly for monitoring non-GMO soybean raw materials and preventing food fraud. Therefore, this acid-base method has the potential to be a practical alternative solution for industry and education in detecting indications of GMOs before further confirmation with molecular methods.
