Abstract

This study explores the challenges of digital da'wah based on inclusive theology within the context of the religious attitudes of Indonesia’s moderate Muslim community on social media. Amid growing polarization of religious discourse and the dominance of exclusive narratives in the digital space, moderate Muslims seek to promote a da'wah approach rooted in tolerance, pluralism, and humanistic values. Through analysis of digital content, communication strategies, and public responses, this research finds that inclusive da'wah faces significant obstacles, including social media algorithms that amplify intolerant content, pressure from conservative-radical groups, and low levels of digital religious literacy. Nevertheless, collaborative, creative, and inclusivity-driven strategies have proven to be effective alternatives in cultivating a more peaceful and adaptive religious public sphere in the digital era. These findings underscore the importance of strengthening inclusive theology as an ethical foundation for navigating the dynamics of religious life in Indonesia’s pluralistic society.

Abstract

Fitnah is a significant social and spiritual phenomenon that greatly impacts both individuals and society. In the context of the Qur’an—specifically in Surah Al-Baqarah verses 191 and 217—fitnah is viewed as a crime more severe than murder. This study explores the root causes of fitnah, which stem from spiritual and psychological weaknesses such as a receptive heart to evil, uncontrolled desires, envy, and impulsive behavior. Fitnah is also seen as a consequence of failing to guard one's speech and the lack of awareness of its serious theological and societal implications. The consequences of fitnah include spiritual degradation of the perpetrator, disruption of social harmony, the rise of hostility, and the fragmentation of national unity. As a solution, patience (ṣabr) is emphasized as an essential virtue in confronting fitnah—not as passive resignation, but as self-restraint and steadfastness in upholding truth and justice. This research adopts a thematic exegesis (tafsir maudhū’i) approach, examining classical and contemporary Qur’anic commentaries to deepen the understanding of fitnah and highlight the urgency of patience as a noble character in facing life’s trials.

Abstract

Hiding knowledge is an act that is not good, because knowledge is something that is needed by humans in any case. Knowledge is also a guide or light that can illuminate a person, with knowledge a person can distinguish between good and bad. The more knowledge that is spread, the more knowledge will increase and develop. Therefore, if someone already knows a science, they must practice and teach it to others, because basically knowledge in Islam is to be practiced and taught, not just collected. Even people who do not want to convey or teach their knowledge to others will receive threats and torment as explained in the hadith. But what if the knowledge is related to skills (abilities). For example, a person's ability in the field of business or business. Is the person who has such knowledge obliged to convey his knowledge, and if he hides his knowledge is he among those who will be threatened according to the information in the hadith. Thus, the question arises, namely how to understand the Hadith about hiding knowledge. The purpose of this study is to find out the understanding of the Hadith about hiding knowledge. Then it is expected to bring benefits to add insight and understanding so that it can be used in everyday life. This research is classified as qualitative research of a library nature (Library Research), using the maudhu'i method which is useful for understanding the hadith, understanding the meaning of the hadith and capturing the meaning contained in the hadith by studying other related traditions on the same theme and paying attention to the correlation of each so as to produce a complete understanding. The result of this study is the hadith about hiding knowledge. Based on the understanding of the Hadith, it can be seen that not all knowledge is forbidden to be hidden. However, the knowledge that is forbidden to be hidden is the knowledge that a person needs in religious affairs, because this type of knowledge if hidden will have a bad impact on the life of the world and also the life of the hereafter. And the person who hides it will get torture and threats. As for knowledge related to the ability (skill) in the field of business or business is the science of the world and is not required to convey this knowledge. Likewise, knowledge or knowledge that can cause harm should not be conveyed.

Abstract

The proliferation of streaming platforms and social media has changed the pattern of religious content consumption in society, especially among the younger generation. Literature shows that platforms such as YouTube, Instagram, and TikTok facilitate access to interactive, visual, and digestible religious information, significantly improving religious understanding, practice, and identity in millennials and Gen Z. Besides expanding the reach of da'wah and strengthening the solidarity of virtual communities, these platforms also contribute to building a more moderate and inclusive religious identity. However, challenges remain in the form of the risk of spreading invalid information and the tendency towards extreme interpretations, so digital literacy and wise supervision are needed so that streaming platforms truly become effective instruments in supporting the strengthening of moderate and relevant religious understanding in the digital era.

Abstract

This study explores the tradition of reciting Surah Yasin, Al-Waqi’ah, and Al-Mulk as a form of reception of the Qur'an within the socio-religious life of pesantren communities. The research was conducted at Pondok Pesantren Salafiyah Madinatussalam, Jatinangor, using a qualitative phenomenological approach. The main focus of the study is to understand the meaning, social function, and spiritual experiences of the participants involved in the recitation activities. Data were collected through participatory observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation, and analyzed using the Living Qur’an theoretical framework. The findings indicate that the recitation of these surahs serves not only as a ritual routine but also as a medium for collective spirituality, strengthening social bonds, and internalizing Sufi values. This practice demonstrates that the Qur'an is not merely a sacred text to be read but a living guide experienced and contextualized by Muslims in their spiritual and cultural lives.

Abstract

Abstract

This study examines the santri's reception of the recitation of Surah Yasin in the Romantisan tradition at Pondok Pesantren Al Ihsan, Cibiru Hilir, Bandung, as a form of practicing the Living Qur'an. Using a qualitative approach and Hans Robert Jauss' reception theory, this study identifies three main forms of reception: spiritual, socio-cultural, and personal emotional. Data were obtained through literature review, in-depth interviews, and documentation. The results show that the recitation of Surah Yasin is not just a religious routine, but has become a living and meaningful social practice for santri. This tradition strengthens faith values, strengthens social relationships, and creates deep emotional experiences. Surah Yasin is not only read, but lived in the collective life of the pesantren through a systematic organizational structure and active participation of all santri. Thus, the Qur'an proves to be a text that continues to interact dynamically with people's lives, in accordance with the spirit of the Living Qur'an.

Abstract

This study explores the reception of students (santri) toward the tradition of reciting Surah al-Quraysh at Pondok Pesantren Sulaimaniyah Bandung, within the framework of Living Qur’an studies. The ritual recitation of short surahs in Islamic boarding schools reflects the actualization of the sacred text in everyday life. Surah al-Quraysh, which emphasizes divine protection, blessings, and spiritual stability, serves as a focal point for understanding how the Qur’an is interpreted within the pesantren community. Using a qualitative approach and Hans Robert Jauss’s reception theory, this research investigates the horizon of expectation that shapes how the students interpret the meaning of Surah al-Quraysh—both ritually and spiritually. Data was collected through participant observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. The findings reveal that students’ reception of the surah evolves from mere routine practice to a profound spiritual experience that fosters collective identity and religious depth. This tradition is influenced by students’ cultural backgrounds, the authoritative role of teachers, and the communal atmosphere of the pesantren, positioning Surah al-Quraysh as a living and dynamic text. This research contributes to the expansion of Living Qur’an studies and the understanding of religious practices in the context of modern Islamic education.

Abstract

This research explores the reception of the Qur'an in the digital era through a TikTok platform called My Inspiration using a descriptive qualitative method. The analysis focuses on several videos or content related to three recommended practices for having children, the meaning of Surah At-Talaq verses 2–3 commonly referred to as the "Ayat of a Thousand Dinars"as well as the interpretation and recitation of Surah Ad-Dhuha, and understanding the tests given by Allah. This study highlights contemporary methods of da'wah through social media and also emphasizes life dynamics, including how to attain a good life and remain patient when tested by Allah in various ways. The findings reveal that the video content offers an aesthetic and exegetical approach, presenting religious concepts with visually engaging elements, simple and easily understood language, and depictions grounded in everyday life. This research complements the limitations of previous studies and demonstrates the adaptation of Qur'anic messages within the context of modern life and public response in the digital era.

Abstract

This study examines the persistent practice of the Ma'pakande Tomate (or manta'da) ritual among the Christian community in Tana Toraja, despite their adherence to Christian teachings. This ritual, performed to honor long-deceased ancestors, is rooted in the belief that the spirits of ancestors who have "membali puang" (become deities) can influence and bestow blessings upon the living, encompassing health, sustenance, and protection from misfortune. This conviction directly contrasts with Christian doctrine, which posits a severed connection between the living and the dead, and asserts that true blessings originate solely from God (Jeremiah 17:7). Utilizing a qualitative research method, this study was conducted in several areas of Tana Toraja where the Ma'pakande Tomate ritual is still actively practiced. The core focus of this investigation is a theological review of this practice, exploring how Torajan Christians interpret this ritual as both a cultural preservation and a source of material blessings, such as health and economic prosperity. The findings are expected to offer deeper insights into the syncretism of beliefs in Tana Toraja and serve as a foundation for Christian religious leaders to provide guidance and clarify the correct understanding of the source of blessings according to Christian teachings.
