Abstract

The development of digital technology has brought significant changes in the lifestyle of students, especially students from other regions who need easy access to campus services and daily needs. One of the increasingly popular innovations is the Go Campus (GOPUS) service, which has become part of the lifestyle of students in the midst of this digital era. This study aims to describe in depth the use of the Go Campus (GOPUS) service as part of the lifestyle of students from other regions of the State Islamic University of North Sumatra (UINSU) Medan in the digital era, focusing on their experiences, motivations, and impacts on their lives. This study uses a qualitative approach with a descriptive research type. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with four UINSU students from other regions who use GOPUS, participant observation, and documentation. Data were analyzed thematically based on patterns of use and students' perceptions of the service. The results of the study indicate that GOPUS has become an integral part of the lifestyle of UINSU students from other regions, providing practical solutions to transportation and time constraints. The main motivations for using GOPUS include convenience and practicality, especially in bad weather conditions or when assignments are piling up. The use of this service facilitates daily activities but also affects their physical activity patterns, with the potential to support a sedentary lifestyle. Although most respondents were satisfied, there were complaints related to service delays and driver availability and response speed. It was concluded that GOPUS not only meets functional needs, but also reflects students' adaptation to the social and technological environment.

Abstract

Due to less ergonomic work postures, cleaning service workers are prone to musculoskeletal disorders. This study explores cleaning service workers' perceptions of the importance of health promotion and increasing awareness of work ergonomics in campus environments. A qualitative approach was used to obtain data through in-depth interviews with one informant who had worked for six years. The results showed that, although the informant had basic knowledge of proper posture, fatigue and work pressure impaired its application. Common complaints include back, shoulder, and knee pain, which are generally treated with traditional methods. Informants also expressed the need for continuous training and educational materials, such as posters. Health promotion was important in raising awareness of work ergonomics and preventing long-term health risks.

Abstract

Bedside teaching (BST) is a clinical learning method conducted directly at the patient's bedside, involving interactions among nurses, students, and patients. This literature review aims to evaluate the effectiveness of bedside teaching in improving nurses’ competencies in providing nursing care. A systematic review was conducted using ten peer-reviewed articles from national nursing journals, selected based on inclusion criteria such as the implementation of BST and the measurement of competency outcomes. The synthesis results indicate that BST significantly enhances cognitive, psychomotor, and affective competencies in nursing practice. Most studies reported p-values < 0.05, confirming the statistical significance of the intervention. These findings support the broader implementation of BST as an effective educational method in clinical nursing practice to strengthen nurses’ clinical skills and professional behaviors.

Abstract

Background: The Surgical Safety Checklist (SSC) is a tool developed by the WHO to improve patient safety during surgical procedures. Nurses play a central role in the implementation of SSC in operating rooms and cath labs. However, compliance with SSC varies across institutions, necessitating a systematic review of its implementation effectiveness. Objective: To systematically review the literature on nurse compliance with SSC implementation and its association with the prevention of surgical errors in operating theatres and cath labs. Method: This study is a literature review examining 10 articles published in the last five years (2019–2024). Articles were collected through searches in the PubMed, Google Scholar, and Semantic Scholar databases using keywords related to SSC, nurse compliance, and patient safety. Inclusion criteria included quantitative or review articles relevant to the focus on the role of nurses. Results: The synthesis of findings indicates that nurse compliance with SSC is positively correlated with improved patient safety and reduced adverse events. Some studies demonstrate that SSC can significantly reduce complications and mortality. Factors such as knowledge, training, safety culture, and managerial support influence nurse compliance in implementing SSC. Conclusion: Nurse compliance with SSC implementation is crucial in preventing surgical errors. Continuous interventions such as training, supervision, and strengthening safety culture are needed to enhance the effectiveness of SSC implementation in operating theatres and cathlabs.

Abstract

Low self-efficacy is a massive problem among Indonesian teenagers and can affect mental health. Meanwhile, the unwise use of AI will have a worse impact if not handled properly. Psychoeducation: Getting to Know Self-Efficacy for Wise AI with Confirmatory Feedback Communication aims to increase self-efficacy and awareness of the wise use of AI technology among students of SMK Negeri 67 Jakarta. Using the confirmatory feedback approach, this psychoeducational activity was carried out through a series of pre-tests, providing materials, discussions in small groups to confirm participants' views, and post-tests. The results of the analysis showed that an increase in the score of reflective attitudes towards the use of AI was influenced by the score of increasing self-efficacy. This psychoeducation shows that the higher the self-efficacy, the use of AI tends to decrease in the data. The confirmatory feedback approach can also be an educational strategy that supports independent and ethical learning in the digital era.

Abstract

Food is one of the primary needs that must be met to maintain a healthy body. However, irregular eating patterns have become a serious health problem among students. This study aims to analyze eating patterns, food preferences, and nutritional understanding of UIN Sumatera Utara students. Using a qualitative method with a phenomenological approach, this study involved 3 respondents, namely UIN Sumatera Utara students. The results of the study showed that students' eating frequency tends to be irregular, with a tendency to skip breakfast and eat more often twice a day during active college days. Consumption of snacks and fast food is quite high, driven by efficiency factors, time constraints, and the influence of the environment and peers. Most informants prefer heavy and processed foods such as instant noodles, geprek chicken, and ultra-processed snacks, with limited knowledge of balanced nutrition and inconsistent application. The conclusion of this study is that the eating patterns of students in this interview show a tendency to be irregular and unbalanced. Fast food and processed foods are the main choices because they are practical, affordable, and easily accessible, while consumption of fruits and vegetables is very low.

Abstract

Intravenous catheter (IVC) insertion is one of the most frequently performed nursing procedures in hospitals and plays a vital role in intravenous therapy, both for the administration of fluids, drugs, and transfusions. The success of this procedure directly affects patient safety, service efficiency, and the quality of nursing care. However, various studies have shown that the success rate of IVC insertion on the first attempt is still low globally, and contextual data in Indonesia, especially in private hospitals, is still very limited. This article aims to describe the profile of IVC insertion success at Mayapada Hospital Surabaya and identify the factors that contribute to its achievement. This study uses a retrospective descriptive approach with analysis of IV insertion recap data during the period April 2024 - July 2024. The results show that the success rate of IVC insertion on the first attempt at this hospital is above the national average, with significant contributions from practice-based training, clinical supervision, and the use of standard procedural guidelines. These findings provide theoretical contributions in enriching the literature related to nurses' technical competence and provide practical implications in the form of recommendations for improving the quality of nursing services through strengthening training programs and performance evaluation. This study is also expected to be the basis for the development of institutional policies and comparative studies in other health facilities in Indonesia.

Abstract

Quality of service is a fundamental factor in influencing inpatient satisfaction in hospitals. This study aims to explore the impact of various service quality dimensions on inpatient satisfaction through a systematic literature review of ten studies conducted in different hospitals in Indonesia. The review shows that all five SERVQUAL dimensions—reliability, responsiveness, assurance, empathy, and tangibles—have a positive effect on patient satisfaction. Among them, assurance and empathy were identified as the most influential dimensions. These findings suggest that hospitals should prioritize the development of professional and empathetic healthcare staff in order to enhance service quality and patient satisfaction.

Abstract

This study aims to understand the motivations and psychosocial dynamics behind smoking behavior in young women. Based on in-depth interviews with two informants—a university student and a barista—it was found that emotional stress, social pressure, and the need for relaxation were the primary factors driving their smoking habits. Despite having knowledge about the dangers of smoking, both informants exhibited a cognitive-behavioral gap due to emotional attachment and mild dependency. The study also revealed that permissive family attitudes and peer influence reinforced their behavior. Although both informants had attempted to quit, internal struggles and the lack of environmental support hindered their efforts. These findings highlight the need for a holistic approach—including psychological, social, and educational interventions—to support smoking cessation, especially among young women.

Abstract

Colorectal cancer is one of the leading causes of cancer-related deaths worldwide, with a steadily increasing prevalence. According to data from the American Cancer Society, it is estimated that over 104,000 new cases of colorectal cancer will be diagnosed in the United States in 2021. Determining the stage of colorectal cancer is crucial in determining prognosis and appropriate treatment strategies, particularly the impact of the latest staging system on patient survival rates. This study employs a retrospective design, analyzing data from the national cancer registry, which includes patients diagnosed with colorectal cancer between 2000 and 2010. The sample population consisted of 10,000 patients who met inclusion criteria, including age, gender, and cancer stage at diagnosis. Data were collected from medical records and cancer registries, as well as other demographic and clinical information. Statistical analysis methods included Kaplan-Meier analysis to calculate five-year survival rates, and Cox regression models to evaluate risk factors influencing survival. The results will provide insights into the efficiency of the sixth edition of the AJCC staging system in predicting patient survival. The analysis revealed that the five-year survival rate for patients with stage I colorectal cancer reached 90%, while for stage IV it was approximately 10%. The study also found that factors such as age, gender, and the presence of comorbidities significantly influenced patient survival. The use of adjuvant therapy in stage III patients showed an increase in survival rates up to 70%. The sixth edition of the AJCC staging system makes a significant contribution to improving understanding of colorectal cancer patient survival. By using this system, doctors can identify high-risk patients and plan more effective interventions. Further research is needed to explore other factors that may influence survival, including the role of genetics and lifestyle. These findings are expected to serve as a foundation for developing better treatment strategies in the future.
