Abstract

Objectives: This study aimed to develop two scales for measuring administrative creativity and decision-making among coaches of Iraqi Elite Handball League clubs, identify their levels, and examine the role of administrative creativity in supporting coaches’ decision-making. Materials and Methods: This study used a descriptive survey design with a correlational approach. The population consisted of 196 players from Iraqi Elite Handball League clubs during the 2024–2025 season. The sample was divided into an exploratory sample of 14 players, a scale-construction sample of 112 players, and an application sample of 70 players. Two scales were developed: the Administrative Creativity Scale and the Decision-Making Scale. Validity was examined through expert judgment, item discrimination, and internal consistency, while reliability was assessed using Cronbach’s alpha. Data were analyzed using SPSS and Microsoft Excel. Results: The final Administrative Creativity Scale consisted of 80 items across seven domains, while the Decision-Making Scale consisted of 56 items across five domains. The administrative creativity level was moderate, with a mean score of 267.814, while the decision-making level was high, with a mean score of 203.85. Most coaches were perceived to have moderate administrative creativity and high decision-making ability. Conclusions: The two developed scales were valid and reliable for measuring administrative creativity and decision-making among elite handball coaches. Administrative creativity appears to support decision-making by helping coaches generate alternatives, adapt to match situations, and select appropriate solutions under competitive pressure.

Abstract

Objectives: This study aimed to design and examine the effectiveness of a rehabilitation program combined with shortwave diathermy in reducing pain intensity and improving shoulder range of motion among males aged 20–30 years with upper-back myofascial pain syndrome. Materials and Methods: This study used an experimental one-group repeated-measures design involving pre-test, middle-test, and post-test measurements. The participants were 20 male patients diagnosed with myofascial pain syndrome in the upper-back region at a rehabilitation center in Al-Kut. The rehabilitation program lasted eight weeks and consisted of three progressive phases: pain reduction, flexibility development, and functional strengthening. Shortwave diathermy was applied during the early phase, followed by structured rehabilitation exercises. Pain intensity was measured using the Visual Analog Scale, while shoulder range of motion was assessed through abduction, internal rotation, and external rotation tests. Data were analyzed using SPSS. Results: The findings showed a significant reduction in pain intensity from pre-test to middle-test, particularly in rest pain, pressure pain, and movement-related pain. Further improvement was observed at the post-test, especially in angle pain. Shoulder range of motion also improved significantly across all measured movements, including abduction, internal rotation, and external rotation. Conclusions: The rehabilitation program combined with shortwave diathermy was effective in reducing pain and improving shoulder range of motion in males with myofascial pain syndrome. The integration of deep-heat therapy and progressive rehabilitation exercises may provide a practical approach for restoring functional movement and preventing recurrence.

Abstract

Objectives: This study aimed to develop a preventive guidance program to reduce the risk of cardiac arrest among football players during sports competitions in Iraq. It also examined the extent to which sports clubs provide health services and the level of players’ health awareness related to cardiac arrest prevention and first aid. Materials and Methods: A descriptive survey design was employed. The study was conducted in Iraqi first-division football clubs during the 2023 season. The main sample consisted of 660 participants, including 60 medical staff members and 600 players. Two structured questionnaires were used: one assessed club-based health services, including medical examination, health education, and health support, while the other assessed players’ health awareness regarding heart protection and first aid for cardiac arrest. The validity and reliability of the instruments were verified using internal consistency and Cronbach’s alpha. Data were analyzed using percentages, arithmetic means, chi-square tests, correlation coefficients, and Cronbach’s alpha. Results: The findings showed weaknesses in the medical examination procedures, health education activities, and health support provided by sports clubs to protect players from cardiac arrest. The results also indicated that players had limited health awareness regarding heart protection, regular medical check-ups, nutrition, recovery practices, and cardiopulmonary resuscitation. Based on these findings, a preventive guidance program was developed around four main pillars: regular cardiovascular medical check-ups, nutrition and supplementation for heart health, sleep and recovery practices, and first aid and CPR awareness. Conclusions: The study concluded that Iraqi football clubs need stronger preventive health procedures to reduce cardiac arrest risk among players. The proposed preventive guidance program may serve as a practical framework for improving medical monitoring, player education, and emergency preparedness in sports clubs.
