Abstract

Preoperative anxiety is a common psychological issue experienced by patients before undergoing surgery, which may affect physiological stability and surgical outcomes. This study aimed to analyze the effectiveness of deep breathing relaxation therapy in reducing preoperative anxiety levels among patients in a Regional General Hospital. This research employed a quasi-experimental design with a pretest-posttest control group design. A total of 40 participants were divided into two groups: the intervention group, which received deep breathing relaxation therapy, and the control group, which did not receive the intervention. Anxiety levels were measured using the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI) before and after the intervention. The results showed a significant reduction in anxiety levels in the intervention group (p = 0.000, p < 0.05), while no significant change was observed in the control group. The deep breathing relaxation therapy was proven effective in decreasing anxiety through the regulation of the parasympathetic nervous system, which induces calmness and reduces muscle tension. It can be concluded that this therapy serves as a simple, safe, and efficient non-pharmacological intervention to reduce preoperative anxiety and enhance evidence-based nursing care quality in hospital settings.

Abstract

Changes in student lifestyle during online learning have impacted eating habits, particularly an increased consumption of fast food, which may affect nutritional status. This study aimed to analyze fast food consumption patterns and their effects on the nutritional status of students. A quantitative approach with a descriptive correlational design was employed. The study sample consisted of 120 students selected purposively. Data were collected through online questionnaires on the frequency of fast food consumption and nutritional status measurement using body mass index (BMI) and 24-hour dietary recall. Data analysis was performed using descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation, and simple linear regression. The results showed that most students consumed fast food 2–4 times per week, mainly burgers, fried chicken, and pizza. The frequency of fast food consumption was positively and significantly correlated with student BMI (r = 0.42; p < 0.01) and accounted for 17.6% of BMI variation. These findings indicate that fast food consumption patterns significantly influence students' nutritional status. Nutritional education and access to healthy food are essential to promote healthier eating habits in the era of online learning.

Abstract

Diarrhea in children under five is a significant public health issue, particularly in densely populated urban areas. This study aims to analyze the effect of household water quality on the incidence of diarrhea among children under five. A cross-sectional design was applied with 120 children aged 0–59 months as the sample. Data were collected through interviews, household sanitation observations, and water sample analysis for microbiological, physical, and chemical parameters. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, Chi-square tests, and logistic regression. The results indicated that 35% of children experienced diarrhea, and E. coli contamination in household water increased the risk of diarrhea by 3.2 times. Open water storage also increased the risk by 2.1 times. Household sanitation and handwashing behavior had a smaller but notable influence. The study emphasizes the importance of improving household water quality, proper water treatment and storage, and hygiene education to reduce diarrhea incidence among children under five.

Abstract

This study aims to compare the sensitivity of RT-PCR and rapid antigen tests in the early detection of COVID-19 infection among healthcare workers, a high-risk occupational group. The research employed a cross-sectional design involving healthcare workers from various clinical units. Each participant underwent both rapid antigen and RT-PCR testing using nasopharyngeal specimens. The results show that RT-PCR maintains the highest sensitivity, particularly in individuals with low viral loads. In contrast, rapid antigen tests exhibit lower sensitivity, with a significant decrease in samples with Ct values > 30. However, rapid antigen tests demonstrate high sensitivity in cases with high viral load (Ct ≤ 25), making them useful for rapid initial screening. This study concludes that rapid antigen tests can serve as early detection tools, but RT-PCR confirmation is essential to ensure diagnostic accuracy, especially among asymptomatic or high-risk healthcare workers.

Abstract

Early Initiation of Breastfeeding (EIBF) is a crucial step in improving maternal and neonatal health, particularly within the first hour after birth. This study aims to examine the relationship between husbands’ support and the success of EIBF among postpartum mothers at coastal-area health centers. A quantitative study with a cross-sectional design was conducted on 60 postpartum mothers selected through accidental sampling. Data were collected using a husband-support questionnaire and EIBF observation checklist, and analyzed using the Chi-Square test. The results showed that most husbands provided high levels of support (63.3%), and the majority of mothers successfully performed EIBF (76.7%). Statistical analysis indicated a significant relationship between husbands’ support and EIBF success (p < 0.05). These findings highlight the crucial role of husbands in facilitating successful EIBF, particularly in coastal communities. Strengthening husbands’ involvement in health education is essential to improving EIBF outcomes.

Abstract

Myogenic pain is a musculoskeletal complaint that arises from repetitive or excessive muscle activity and is commonly experienced by young adults. Rose essential oil (Rosa damascena) is known for its analgesic and anti-inflammatory properties. This study aimed to examine the effect of topically applied rose essential oil on increasing the pain threshold. The research employed a quantitative pre-experimental design using a one-group pretest-posttest approach. A total of 30 university students aged 19–24 years received an intervention in the form of topical application of rose essential oil to an area 7 cm distal to the m. epicondylus lateralis. Pain threshold was measured using faradic electrical stimulation. The results showed an increase in pain threshold from a mean of 8.4 mA to 12.1 mA after the intervention (p = 0.000). These findings indicate that rose essential oil is effective in reducing pain sensitivity and may be recommended as a complementary non-pharmacological therapy for myogenic pain. Its ease of use and safety make it suitable for community-based physiotherapy and self-care programs.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the level of community knowledge regarding self-medication for diarrhea at Mamuju Port (Kasiwa). This research employed a quantitative descriptive design using a purposive sampling technique. The sample consisted of 80 respondents from the Kasiwa Port area. Data were collected using a questionnaire covering knowledge about the definition, usage, and proper administration of antidiarrheal drugs. Data analysis was conducted using univariate analysis and presented in frequency and percentage distributions. The results showed that most respondents were female (57.5%) and had a senior high school education background (53.75%). The level of knowledge regarding antidiarrheal self-medication was predominantly categorized as low (60%), followed by good (32%) and moderate (8%). These findings indicate that community understanding of appropriate and rational use of antidiarrheal medication remains inadequate. Therefore, active involvement of healthcare professionals in providing education and counseling is needed to improve community knowledge and promote safe and responsible self-medication practices.

Abstract

Early Breastfeeding Initiation (EBI) is one of the key interventions recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO) to improve the success of exclusive breastfeeding. EBI within the first hour after birth is believed to stimulate lactation, strengthen mother–infant bonding, and support the continuity of breastfeeding practices. This study aimed to analyze the effectiveness of Early Breastfeeding Initiation (EBI) on the success of exclusive breastfeeding based on published research findings. This study employed a literature review approach by examining scientific articles retrieved from Google Scholar, PubMed, ScienceDirect, and Garuda databases. The reviewed articles were published between 2016 and 2026 and discussed the relationship between EBI and exclusive breastfeeding success. Articles were selected based on predetermined inclusion and exclusion criteria and analyzed narratively to synthesize the findings. Most studies reported a positive and significant relationship between EBI implementation and the success of exclusive breastfeeding. Infants who received EBI within the first hour of life were more likely to be exclusively breastfed for the first six months than those who did not receive EBI. Factors supporting successful EBI included healthcare provider support, vaginal delivery, adequate maternal knowledge, and family support, while cesarean delivery, lack of education, and prelacteal feeding practices were identified as barriers. Early Breastfeeding Initiation is effective in improving the success of exclusive breastfeeding. Optimizing EBI implementation through maternal education, family support, healthcare provider competency enhancement, and supportive health facility policies is essential to increase exclusive breastfeeding coverage and improve infant health outcomes.

Abstract

Chronic diseases are among the leading causes of morbidity and mortality worldwide and require long-term treatment as well as patient adherence to therapeutic regimens to achieve optimal health outcomes. However, medication adherence among patients with chronic diseases remains a significant challenge in healthcare services due to various factors, including inadequate knowledge, low motivation, treatment complexity, and limited social support. Nursing education is one of the interventions that can improve patients’ knowledge, awareness, and ability to manage their conditions independently. This study aimed to examine the effectiveness of nursing education in improving medication adherence among patients with chronic diseases through a literature review approach. Literature was searched through Google Scholar, PubMed, ScienceDirect, SpringerLink, and Garuda databases using keywords related to nursing education, medication adherence, and chronic diseases. The reviewed articles were published between 2016 and 2026 and met the predetermined inclusion and exclusion criteria. The findings indicate that nursing education has a positive effect on improving medication adherence among patients with chronic diseases. Various interventions, including individual counseling, group health education, educational media, and technology-based education, were found to enhance patients’ understanding of their diseases and treatment regimens. Educational interventions combined with continuous monitoring and family support produced more optimal outcomes in improving medication adherence. Therefore, nursing education can be recommended as an effective strategy to support treatment success, reduce the risk of complications, and improve the quality of life of patients with chronic diseases.
