Abstract

This study aims to determine the income of the tourism sector through the factors that can influence it, namely the hotel occupancy rate, the number of tourists, and the number of tourist objects as independent variables on the income of the tourism sector in Semarang City in 2000-2020. Sources of data used are secondary data obtained from documentation. The data analysis technique used multiple linear regression analysis. The results of the study obtained a coefficient of determination of 0.193, meaning that the hotel occupancy rate, the number of tourists, and the number of tourist objects can explain the variation in tourism sector income by 19.3 percent. The results of the hypothesis test obtained that hotel occupancy has a significant effect on tourism sector income, the number of tourists has no significant effect on tourism sector income, and the number of tourist objects has no significant effect on tourism sector income.

Abstract

This research aims to analyze labor demand in small and micro industries in Indonesia from 2018 to 2021. A stationarity test was conducted first to determine the appropriate method for the time series data. The method used in this study is panel data regression, which combines time series data (2018-2021) and cross-sectional data (23 industrial subsectors according to the Indonesian Standard Classification of Business Fields) with a fixed effects model (FEM). The results indicate that output has a positive effect on labor demand, while wages and the dummy variable for goods industries do not significantly affect labor demand in small and micro industries in Indonesia.

Abstract

Human resources are one of the main factors in economic growth. Human resources plays a significant role in providing labor to produce goods and services in an economy. However, a large number of labor force could cause problems. Massive increases in the labor force without sufficient labor absorption could lead to unemployment. Unemployment is a problem that is often faced by local governments, one of which is Bali Province. This research aims to analyze the influence of minimum wages, domestic investment, and foreign investment on labor absorption in Bali Province. The data used is secondary data from the Bali Province Central Statistics Agency for the period of 1994 – 2023. By using multiple linear regression with the Ordinary Least Squares method, this research proved that minimum wage and foreign investment have a positive and significant effect on labor absorption, while domestic investment has a positive but not significant effect on labor absorption in Bali Province.

Abstract

Studies on democracy and income inequality have produced diverse findings. There are still many limitations in the study of democracy and inequality, both methodologically and empirically. Many empirical studies discuss the relationship over the years with observations in multiple countries. Krauss (2015) argues that analyzing democracy and inequality through specific regions will yield deeper and more robust results. This research examines the relationship between democracy and income inequality using panel data from 9 ASEAN countries over the period from 1973 to 2020. Fixed effects panel data modeling and the democracy index published by Freedom House were used. The study finds a significant relationship between democracy and income inequality, indicating that more democratic countries tend to experience increased income inequality. Based on these findings, democracy in ASEAN has not yet reached the point of institutionalized democracy or the phase where democracy would reduce income inequality. This research attempts to offer contextual explanations and mechanisms that may lead to these findings for the ASEAN region.

Abstract

One of the obstacles in the development of developing countries including Indonesia is poverty or the number of people below the poverty line. In an effort to reduce poverty, research is needed on the factors that influence poverty between regions. The purpose of this study is to analyze the effect of Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP), Human Development Index (HDI) and Unemployment on Poverty levels in 33 District/Cities in North Sumatera Province in 2017-2021. This study uses panel data with the Random Effect Model (REM) approach and uses a one-tail hypothesis test to determine the effect of Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP), Human Development Index (HDI) and Unemployment on District/City Poverty Levels in North Sumatera Province in 2017-2021. The regression results using the Random Effect Model (REM) approach show that partially, the Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) and Human Development Index (HDI) variables have a significant effect on the district/city poverty rate in North Sumatera Province, while the unemployment variable has no significant effect on the district/city poverty rate in North Sumatera Province. Suggestions for this study are to add other independent variables that are not included in this research model, in addition to what factors affect the poverty rate.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effects of economic growth, minimum wage, and unemployment on poverty in Semarang City from 2002 to 2021. This research employs the Ordinary Least Squares (OLS) method. The results show that economic growth does not significantly affect the poverty rate in Semarang City during this period. The minimum wage variable has a negative and significant effect on the poverty rate in Semarang, while unemployment does not significantly affect the poverty rate. The variables of economic growth, minimum wage, and unemployment in Semarang City from 2002 to 2021 have a simultaneous effect on the poverty rate in Semarang during the same period.

Abstract

This study aims to see the effect of hosting mega-sporting events: the FIFA World Cup, Summer Olympics, and Winter Olympics on Asian countries’ economic growth, such as China, Indonesia, Japan, South Korea, Thailand, Bahrain, Singapore, Saudi Arabia, Malaysia, and India from 1998 to 2023. This study compares the effects of each Mega-Sporting Event (MSE) across nations using panel data.  Because it takes into consideration country-specific factors that could affect the outcomes, the Fixed Effect Model (FEM) was used.  Hosting the FIFA World Cup did not have a positive effect on economic growth, hosting the Summer Olympics brought a positive effect on economic growth, and hosting the Winter Olympics did not have a positive effect on economic growth. A limitation of this study is that it did not include Qatar because the variables used in the research were unavailable. Additionally, the study did not examine the indirect effects of hosting mega-sporting events on economic growth. This study offers a novel cross-country panel analysis on the economic impact of hosting MSEs in Asia over 26 years using a Fixed Effect Model.

Abstract

This study aims to determine whether financial literacy, digital marketing, financial technology, and financial management affect the sustainability of halal MSMEs in Yogyakarta. This quantitative study uses primary data collection methods through online and offline questionnaires. The sampling technique was a purposive sampling method with a total of 110 respondents who were Halal MSME players in Yogyakarta. The results showed that the four independent variables, namely financial literacy, digital marketing, financial technology, and financial management, had a significant positive effect on the sustainability of halal MSMEs in Yogyakarta. Research related to the sustainability of the performance of halal MSMEs in Yogyakarta has not been widely explored by experts. To the best of the author’s knowledge, studies focusing on the sustainability performance of halal SMEs are still rare, and this literature can complement the exploration of the sustainability of the performance of halal MSMEs, especially in the Yogyakarta area.

Abstract

This study identifies potential economic sectors as key drivers in mining-based regencies of South Kalimantan by analyzing inter-sectoral linkages (forward-backward linkages), value-added, and economic impacts. Using Input-Output analysis and Klassen typology on 2016 data covering 17 sectors, the study identifies leading sectors capable of driving economic growth amid declining contributions from the extractive sector. The results highlight Processing Industry, Waste Management, Information/Communication, Accommodation, and Real Estate as key sectors with varying dominance across regencies: Tanah Bumbu (Processing, Waste, Information), Kotabaru (Processing, Waste, Accommodation, Real Estate), and Balangan & Tabalong (Processing, Waste, Information, Accommodation, Real Estate). The novelty of this research lies in combining Input-Output and Klassen analyses to integrate linkages with income-output multiplier effects, providing accurate policy recommendations for inclusive post-mining economic development.
