Abstract

Urban poverty in six cities in Central Java Province is an interesting issue to analyze in relation to the factors that influence it. This study analyzes the issue of urban poverty because regional economic development is partly determined by how cities can grow. The objective of this research is to analyze the effect of urbanization, human capital, and unemployment on urban poverty in six cities in Central Java Province from 2015 to 2021. This study uses quantitative data sourced from publications by the Badan Pusat Statistik of Central Java Province. The method used is multiple linear regression with panel data, where the dependent variable is the percentage of the poor population, while the independent variables include urbanization (in-migration), human capital (HDI), and unemployment in the cities of Magelang, Surakarta, Tegal, Semarang, Pekalongan, and Salatiga from 2015 to 2021. The results of the study show that urbanization has a positive and significant effect on poverty, human capital has a negative and significant effect on poverty, and unemployment has a positive and significant effect on poverty.

Abstract

The development of technologies that demand faster and easier operation also encourages the development of payment systems, which is one of the components that can support economic growth. Innovation in the non-cash payment system developed by Bank Indonesia can help people to be able to do transactions easier and faster to fulfill their needs. This study aims to find out the effect of the non-cash payment system using electronic money (e-money) and Card-Using Payment Instruments (APMK) with debit/ATM cards and credit cards on Indonesia's Gross Domestic Product (GDP). The methods used in this study are multiple linear regression analysis with Ordinary Least Square (OLS) models. The type of data used is secondary data in the form of time series in quarterly intervals of the period 2011 to 2021 obtained from the website of Bank Indonesia and Badan Pusat Statistik. The results of the study showed that debit/ATM cards have a significant positive effect on GDP. Meanwhile, credit cards and electronic money do not have a significant effect on GDP. Simultaneously, debit/ATM cards, credit cards, and electronic money have a significant positive effect on GDP, which means that if the use of payments with Card-Using Payment Instruments (APMK) and electronic money (e-money) increases simultaneously, it will encourage an increase in Indonesia's GDP.

Abstract

Rice is main food commodity consumed in Indonesia. The availability of rice plays a strategic role in food security, national economic, and political stability. The increasing population results in an increasing demand for food, especially rice. Meanwhile, rice production fluctuates following cropping patterns and weather changes, resulting in a gap between rice availability and rice consumption. The purpose of this study is to determine the effect of rice harvest area, land productivity, rice price growth and total population on Indonesia's rice availability in 1990 to 2022 partially and simultaneously. The data used in this study is secondary data based on a time series in Indonesia from 1990 to 2022. This study was analyzed using multiple linear regression analysis with Eviews 10 application. The results of the study showed that simultaneously, rice harvest area, land productivity, rice price growth, and total population had a significant effect on rice availability. Partially, land productivity and rice price growth have a positive and significant effect on rice availability. Total population has a negative and significant effect on rice availability. Meanwhile, rice harvest area has no significant effect on rice availability.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effect of factors of production on the level of coffee production in the Bandung Regency during a pandemic. The selected variables are capital, land area, labor, and fertilizer. The population in this research is coffee farmers in Bandung Regency. The sample was selected through simple random sampling with the results of as many as 100 respondents from coffee farmers from villages in Bandung Regency. This type of research uses quantitative methods with a descriptive approach. The data obtained and collected were then analyzed through multiple linear regression using Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) version 25. The results of this study indicate that only capital, land, and fertilizer partially have a positive and significant impact on coffee production in Bandung Regency during the pandemic. Labor variables partially have no significant impact on coffee production in Bandung Regency during the pandemic. Simultaneously capital, land area, labor, and fertilizer had a significant impact on coffee production in Bandung Regency during the Pandemic. This could encourage future research in the coffee plantation sector that uses this variable to support strategic policy.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the spatial linkages between districts/cities based on leading sectors in West Java Province. This study uses the Location Quotient (LQ) analysis method and Spatial Autocorrelation analysis using the Global Moran analysis tool and the Local Indicator of Spatial Autocorrelation (LISA). This study uses secondary data in the form of Gross Regional Domestic Product (GDP) data based on constant prices according to the district/city business field of West Java Province for 2017-2021 sourced from the Badan Pusat Statistik of West Java Province. The results of calculating the LQ index which forms the basis of Global Moran and LISA analysis show that there are three highest leading sectors in West Java, namely the construction sector; government administration sector, defense, and mandatory social security; as well as the education services sector. Based on the results of Global Moran's analysis of the 3 leading sectors, only the government administration, defense, and compulsory social security sectors and the education services sector have significant spatial linkages in West Java. However, the area disturbance is classified as weak because the Moran index value is away from the value (+1). The results of the Local Indicator of Spatial Autocorrelation (LISA) analysis show cluster patterns and High-High (Hot-Spot) interplay in the defense administration, defense, and mandatory social security sectors in Ciamis Regency and the education services sector in Ciamis Regency, Majalengka Regency, and Kuningan Regency. The limitation of this research is that Global Moran and LISA analyses only use a significance test of α = 5% so the interpretation of inter-regency/city linkages is still lacking in detail.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the impact of the non-cash food assistance program (BPNT), marital status, household size, the education level of the household head, and household expenditures on calorie consumption adequacy. The data used is secondary data from the 2021 National Socio-Economic Survey (Susenas) by the Badan Pusat Statistik, with a total of 28,453 households as the research sample. The variables include calorie consumption adequacy, receipt of the BPNT program, marital status, household size, the education level of the household head, and household expenditures. This study employs a quantitative descriptive method. Parameter estimation in logistic regression uses Maximum Likelihood Estimation (MLE), and the model is tested using the Hosmer and Lemeshow Goodness of Fit Test. The results show that the BPNT program, marital status, and the education level of the household head do not affect calorie consumption adequacy in Grobogan Regency. However, household size has a negative impact on calorie consumption adequacy, while household expenditures positively influence calorie consumption adequacy in Grobogan Regency.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of the poverty rate, unemployment rate, and labor force participation rate on the human development index of DKI Jakarta. This study was conducted to find out whether or not those variables are indeed three factors that played an important role in encouraging DKI Jakarta to have the highest human development index among 33 other provinces in Indonesia. This study used panel data from 6 administrative districts and cities in DKI Jakarta during 2010-2021 using a random effect panel regression model. The results showed that there was a significant negative effect of the poverty rate and the open unemployment rate on the human development index. Meanwhile, the labor force participation rate has a significant positive effect on the human development index of DKI Jakarta during 2010-2021. According to the F-statistic, it showed the human development index simultaneously affected by the poverty rate, open unemployment rate, and labor force participation rate within 60% R-squared. This study specifically highlights economics and employment in DKI Jakarta as aspects with the most programs and policies applied.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the impact of the merger of three dominant-asset Islamic banks on the level of competition in the Islamic banking sector, observed from pre-merger and post-merger conditions, as well as its determining factors. The research uses panel data from 14 banks for the pre-merger condition (2016-2020) and 11 banks for the post-merger condition (2021-2022), applying the Panzar-Rosse Model (H-Stat). The results indicate that the Islamic banking industry in Indonesia exhibits monopolistic market structures in both pre-merger and post-merger conditions. The impact of the merger led to a decrease in the competition level within the industry, as shown by the H-Stat result of 0.949 for the pre-merger condition and 0.910 for the post-merger condition. This study demonstrates that when companies with dominant assets in an industry merge, it results in reduced competition, as the newly formed entity possesses excessive capabilities while other companies are unable to compete effectively.
