Abstract

Local peoples in a certain area is very depends on plants grow on surrounding them for fulfill daily lifelyhoat such as food, clothing, construction material, medicinal, etc. People knowledge in plants utilized especially as medicinal matter was passed on from generation to generation. Documentation and conservation of traditional knowledge from the local people until to do the research of diversity of medicinal plant by Talang Mamak tribe in Bukit Tigapuluh National Park, Riau. Field data collection of medicinal plants was done by directobservation and interview with the figure or tribe-head and community is used medicinal plant in surrounding them. From the survey it result that at least 77 species of plants are used as medicines. Five species from these was categorised as endangered species such as pulai (Alstonia scholaris), gaharu (Aquilaria malaccensis), kapung-kapung (Oroxylum indicum), pasak bumi (Eurycoma longifolia), and akar kuning (Arcangelisia flava). Abstract

This study aims to identify cuscus species found in the northern part areas of Manokwari. The study was conducted on 5-26 November 2005 and 10-25 August 2007. The method used in the research was descriptive by means of applying observation and interview techniques. The result of the research reveals that there are two cuscus species that exist in the area, namely Phalanger orientalis (Mesber) and Spilocuscus maculatus (Mowodu). The activity pattern of cuscus is strongly inter-related to the phases of the moon, weather, and secure and unspoiled environment. The cuscus is commonly hunted by local people for its meat and handicrafts. The local people do not have a pattern of traditional conservations. Abstract

Jatropha curcas is one of the plant which produces the renewable fuel. At the present time, the problems of the jatropha are litle information about genetic information included genetic diversity on inter species at Central Java and even in Indonesia. The diversity of inter species can be known by isozyme traits, this marker provide clustering species. The objective of this research were to identify jatropha based onisozyme markers. This research was conducted on Mei until December 2006. The samples were obtained from Banyumas, Pati, Cilacap, Pemalang, Jepara, Kudus, Batang and Grobogan. Isozyme analysis was conducted on Central Laboratory, Sebelas Maret University. Analysis of isozyme were conducted with isozyme Alcohol dehydrogenase (ADH), Sorbitol dehydrogenase (SOD), Schimimate dehydrogenase (SHD) and Isocitrate dehydrogenase (IDH). Analysis of data used the metode of Cluster Metode Average Linkage withDICE coefficienct. The conclusion of this research were: based on analysis of enzyme sorbitol dehydrogenase (SOD) and schimimate dehydrogenase (SHD), spesies from Kudus I was different with other species, while based on Alcohol dehydrogenase (ADH) and Isocitrate dehydrogenase (IDH) showed that species from Grobogan has genetic similarity with Kudus I.© 2007 Jurusan Biologi FMIPA UNS SurakartaKey words: Jatropha curcas, Isoenzim

Abstract

The inventory and the collection of the ferns in Laiwangi Wanggameti National Park will be plamted as collection plants in Bali Botanical Garden. In this research used the explorative method. The result of the research has collected 70 numbers of the ferns and 229 speciment. They consist of 21 family, 30 genus.and 70 species. From 70 species. There are 3 species such as Licopodium sernuum, Lygodium javanicum (Tumb.) Sw. and Ophioglossum pendulum L. are predicted as new collection for the Bali Botanic Garden. The dominant genus in Laiwangi- Wanggameti National Park was Cyclosorus, Asplenium, Athyrium, and Pteris. Abstract

Wawonii Island is belonging to Province of South-east Sulawesi, which covers area of about 650 km2. The areas is divided into four forest zones that were protected forests, production forests, limited production forests and social forests. This island was selected as a study site with consideration that this island estimated to have unique flora as same as to Sulawesi Island in general. In addition, so far there is no information about flora in this area. The study was conducted by exploring where the forest area visited, in order to collected and inventoried of plant with special attention to orchid species. Out of this study there are about 80 species of orchid were recorded and three species of them were Anoectochilus cetaceus Bl., Cryptostylis javanica J.J. Sm. and Malaxis koordersii (J.J. Sm.) Bakh. f., identified as new record from Wawonii Island. Those three species according to previous information were admitted as endemic of Java. Although morphologically those three species collected from Wawonii were little bit different to which occurred in Java, but based on the species character they unable to be considered as different species. Abstract

Mahkota dewa (Phaleria macrocarpa [Scheff.] Boerl.) is a poisonous plant, but almost all parts of the plants can be used as a traditional medicine. Consuming the plant directly can cause swollen, sprue, numb at tongue, fever, even unconscious. Although the plant can conquere various diseases, from diabetes mellitus, hemorrhoid, impotency to cancer, but research on the plant is still limited. A researchwas conducted to find out antioxidant activities at a parts of mahkota dewa plant by free radical scavenging method (DPPH). The highest activities of the parts of plant are young fruits and old fruits in the ethanol and methanol solvents. Abstract

Tangale is one of nature reserve in Gorontalo province, with covers about 113 ha areas but information on plant biodiversity especially, which has potency as source of foodstuff is still limited. For that reason a plant exploration and inventory in this area has been made in 2002. Thirty-three species of edible plant have been recorded, and they consist of fruits (19 species), vegetables (12 species), cereal (1 species) and tuber (1 species). Abstract

Observation on fish coral condition was conducted in the waters of Pare-Pare and Awerange Bay, South Sulawesi, on October and November 2004, using scuba diving set and under water writting tools. Monitoring of fish coral conditions were conducted in 7 m depths up to 100 m length of shore line were observed in four stations of diving, two stations in Pare-pare Bay and two stations in Awerange Bay using “sencus visual of Line Intercept Transect” method. The result showed that in the waters of Pare-Pare Bay were not found fish coral, just pelagic fish were found, meanwhile in the waters of Awerange Bay, fish coral found as much as 17 families and 46 specieses.© 2007 Jurusan Biologi FMIPA UNS SurakartaKey words: Coral fish condition, Pare-Pare Bay, Awerange Bay

Abstract

A study on isolation and identification mould inhabiting plant leaf litter had been conducted. The objective of the study was to isolate and identify mould inhabiting plant leaf litter from Mount Lawu, Surakarta, Central Java. The mould isolation was based on washing and filtering with membrane isolation method. The result showed that 39 moulds generas with 55 species varians, one group identified in class level, and three groups of unidentified mould isolates had been isolated. Taxas distributions showed that there were endophyte and phytopatogen mould isolates had been isolated such as Fusarium, Pestalotiopsis, Phoma, and Coelomycetes. However, typical soil taxa and common saprobic fungi such as Aspergillus, Cunninghamella, Mucor, Paecilomyces, Penicillium, Rhizopus, and Trichoderma remain dominated the resulted isolates..© 2007 Jurusan Biologi FMIPA UNS SurakartaKey words: mould, leaf litter, Mount Lawu, washing and filter membrane isolation method

Abstract

Malaria remains as one of global health problem, in which malaria infection in the last two decades increase twice. On the other hand, the uses of plants as antimalarial sources had been known. Some plant species of Simaroubaceae have been known to have antimalarial properties. Picrasma javanica is one plant species of Simaroubaceae. In this study, P. javanica extracts was tested for antimalarial against rodent plasmodium, Plasmodium berghei in single dose (20 mg/kg BW). Leaves, fruit and stem bark extracts of P. javanica were tested to determine the extract which has the best in decreasing parasitemia, followed by variation doses test (1, 10, 100 and 1000 ppm) to determine the effectivity dose (ED50). The results showed that stem bark extract decrease parasitemia (73.89%) better than leaves (71.4%), fruit (-) extracts and chloroquin (32.35%) as positive control. The effective dose (ED50) of stem bark extract was 110.09 mg/kgBW. Phytochemical screening showed that stem bark extract of ki pahit (P. javanica) contained alkaloid, flavonoid, tannin and diterpene.© 2007 Jurusan Biologi FMIPA UNS SurakartaKey words: Picrasma javanica, Plasmodium berghei, ED50
