Abstract

ABSTRACT Background: Low back pain is a common musculoskeletal complaint in late pregnancy and may interfere with mobility, sleep quality, daily activities, and maternal comfort. Pregnancy exercise is a feasible non-pharmacological intervention that can be integrated into antenatal services, particularly in primary health care. However, local evidence from community health centers remains limited. Objective: This study aimed to compare the level of low back pain before and after pregnancy exercise among third-trimester pregnant women at Tamalate Public Health Center, Makassar. Methods: This pre-experimental study used a one-group pretest-posttest design. Thirty-six third-trimester pregnant women with low back pain were selected using purposive sampling. Pain intensity was assessed before and after the intervention using a structured pain questionnaire/numeric pain scale. Data were analyzed descriptively and using the Wilcoxon signed-rank test because the paired data were ordinal or not normally distributed. Results: Before the intervention, 17 respondents (47.2%) reported severe pain, 14 (38.9%) moderate pain, and 5 (13.9%) mild pain. After the intervention, severe pain decreased to 1 respondent (2.8%), while mild pain increased to 20 respondents (55.6%). The Wilcoxon test showed a significant reduction in pain after pregnancy exercise (Z = -5.215; p < 0.001), with a large effect size (r = 0.87). Conclusion: Pregnancy exercise was associated with a significant reduction in low back pain among third-trimester pregnant women. Nevertheless, the absence of a control group, the relatively small sample size, and the subjective nature of pain measurement should be considered when interpreting the findings. Keywords: low back pain; pregnancy exercise; third trimester; pregnant women; pretest-posttest ABSTRAK Latar Belakang: Nyeri punggung bawah merupakan keluhan muskuloskeletal yang sering dialami ibu hamil trimester III dan dapat mengganggu mobilitas, kualitas tidur, aktivitas sehari-hari, serta kenyamanan ibu selama kehamilan. Setelah intervensi, nyeri berat menurun menjadi 1 responden (2,8%), sedangkan nyeri ringan meningkat menjadi 20 responden (55,6%).

Abstract

Background: Chronic energy deficiency (CED) affects 35–75% of pregnant women globally, with the highest prevalence occurring in the third trimester of pregnancy. National prevalence in Indonesia stands at 16.9%, with 12.1% in Makassar City and 19.38% at Tamalate Community Health Center. Multiple factors—including poverty, prenatal nutrition deficiency, anemia, and limited knowledge—accumulate in behaviors that negatively impact child stunting outcomes. Methods: A quantitative observational analytical study using a case-control design was conducted on 140 subjects at Puskesmas Tamalate, Makassar, comprising 70 CED cases and 70 non-CED controls selected by simple random sampling. Economic status was assessed by monthly family income level, and anemia status was determined by hemoglobin (Hb) measurement. Data were processed and analyzed using the Odds Ratio (OR) statistical test with SPSS version 24. Results: Economic status was significantly associated with CED in pregnant women (p=0.000 < α=0.05), with a predicted OR of 5.54 (95% CI: 2.67–11.47). Anemia status was also significantly associated with CED (p=0.000 < α=0.05), with a predicted OR of 9.7 (95% CI: 3.5–27.2). Conclusion: Low family income and anemia are significant risk factors for CED in pregnant women. Adequate nutritional education utilizing affordable food sources and Hb screening before and during pregnancy are strongly recommended to reduce CED incidence.

Abstract

Background: Stunting is a national issue linked to chronic malnutrition, with Indonesia ranked second highest in Southeast Asia at 31.8% prevalence in 2020. At Puskesmas Perumnas II, cases rose from 76 in 2022 to 84 in 2023. Mothers’ limited knowledge about stunting prevention, particularly during the first 1,000 days of life, is a key contributing factor. Pocket books offer an attractive, concise, and portable alternative for delivering health education. Methods: Pre-experimental study using a one-group pretest-posttest design. A total of 50 mothers were recruited via consecutive sampling. Data were collected using a validated questionnaire (25 items, Cronbach’s α = 0.723). The Wilcoxon signed-rank test was used for analysis after normality testing confirmed non-normal distribution. Results: Pre-test median score was 72 (SD = 14.092; range 32–92). Post-test median score improved to 100 (SD = 6.355; range 76–100). Wilcoxon test yielded p-value = 0.000 (p < 0.05), indicating a statistically significant increase in knowledge. Conclusion: Pocket book–based health counseling significantly improved stunting prevention knowledge among mothers of infants aged 0–12 months. Puskesmas Perumnas II is recommended to integrate this media into routine health education programs.

Abstract

Background: Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs) are diseases transmitted through sexual contact that can cause serious complications, especially in women. In Indonesia, the prevalence of STIs including HIV/AIDS remains high. In Pontianak, in 2021 there were 85 HIV cases and 4 AIDS cases, mostly in male patients. Given the high risk of STIs among adolescents, early prevention efforts are essential. Methods: This study used a pre-experimental design with a one-group pretest-posttest design. Convenience sampling was used with 83 respondents from class XI and XII. Data were collected using a validated questionnaire (15 items, Cronbach’s Alpha = 0.857) and analyzed using the Wilcoxon signed-rank test.   Results: The mean pre-test score was 66.75 (SD = 20.424) and post-test score was 93.96 (SD = 5.359). Wilcoxon test showed Z = -7.764 and p-value = 0.000 (p < 0.05), indicating a significant difference in adolescent knowledge before and after the intervention.    Conclusion: Health education using e-module media is effective in increasing adolescent knowledge about sexually transmitted infections. Schools are recommended to integrate e-modules into their health education programs.

Abstract

Background: Hospital environmental cleanliness is an important indicator in preventing Health-Care Associated Infections (HAIs). Outpatient rooms are high-traffic service areas with a high potential for floor contamination by microorganisms. This study aimed to describe the germ count on outpatient room floors before and after mopping at Inche Abdoel Moeis Regional Hospital, Samarinda. Methods: This study used a descriptive quantitative method with a cross-sectional approach. Samples consisted of 22 floor swab specimens from 11 outpatient clinics, including samples before and after mopping. Sampling was carried out using purposive sampling. Floor swab samples were cultured on Plate Count Agar (PCA) media through serial dilutions of 10⁻¹, 10⁻², and 10⁻³, then incubated at 35°C for 24–48 hours. Bacterial colonies were counted using a colony counter and calculated as Total Plate Count in CFU/cm². Results: The average germ count before mopping was 1.15 CFU/cm² and decreased to 0.40 CFU/cm² after mopping. The highest pre-mopping value was found in sample P1 at 5.8 CFU/cm², while the highest post-mopping value was found in sample P3 at 1.3 CFU/cm². All samples both before and after mopping were still below the hospital floor sanitation quality standard of ≤10 CFU/cm². A total of 100% of samples met the health requirements. Conclusion: Mopping was able to reduce the floor germ count in most outpatient rooms. Although several rooms showed slight increases after mopping, all outpatient room floors still met the sanitation standard based on the Regulation of the Minister of Health of the Republic of Indonesia Number 7 of 2019.
