Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

This study examines how prophetic values are integrated into digital Public Relations (PR) practices and identifies the challenges of their implementation in the disruptive era. Using a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) with the PRISMA framework, this study analyzes selected scholarly articles published between 2018 and 2025 from indexed national and international journals. The selection process involved keyword-based searches, screening, eligibility assessment, and thematic coding of relevant studies. The findings indicate three main patterns. First, prophetic values are operationalized through ethical storytelling, transparent communication, and socially responsible content strategies. Second, the implementation of these values faces structural, cultural, and technological challenges, including algorithmic bias, market-driven communication logic, and institutional constraints. Third, prophetic digital PR contributes to building trust and fostering more sustainable and human-centered communication, although its application remains limited and context-dependent. This study contributes theoretically by bridging classical PR models, particularly two-way symmetrical communication, with prophetic ethics, and empirically by mapping current research trends and gaps in value-based digital communication.

Abstract

The fuel subsidy had previously served as a silent form of social protection in Nigeria, shielding vulnerable groups from high living costs in a country where poverty is widespread and social welfare is lacking. The financial burden of subsidising fuel, combined with perceptions of poor performance, sustained ongoing debate about whether to remove the subsidies. In 2023, the Nigerian government abruptly decided to remove fuel subsidies, leading to a significant increase in food, energy, and transportation costs. This research will assess the broader socioeconomic impacts of this policy shock on Northern Nigeria, a region where poverty rates remain high, insecurity is structural, and adaptive capacity is low. Using a qualitative methodology, data will be collected through key informant interviews, community discussions, and textual analysis of official reports and socioeconomic data. Employing a social vulnerability framework, the analysis will examine how subsidy removal exacerbated social inequality and reshaped survival strategies. The findings will show that economic hardship was particularly severe for lower classes, people in the informal economy, and those in villages, resulting in reduced purchasing power, food insecurity, and social stress. Conflict zones and socioeconomically disadvantaged areas of Northern Nigeria were especially affected where social welfare programmes are clearly lacking or absent. The thesis argues that the sudden removal of subsidies, without any social welfare programme in place, increases social vulnerability and undermines the legitimacy of governance. The research concludes by recommending a new approach to subsidy reform, involving phased implementation, targeted support, and region-specific adaptation, to mitigate negative socioeconomic impacts and restore the legitimacy of state–citizen relations.

Abstract

Media, both mainstream and social, are now the hallmark of socioeconomic and political life in contemporary societies. It serves as a viable option for reaching a large audience in a limited time. Nigeria is a populous country with a widespread geographical terrain that makes physical contact, especially by politicians during campaigns, a herculean task. However, the advent of the media eased the process of campaigning, political communication, and awareness creation among the electorates in the Fourth Republic. One area where the media plays a significant role in political communication is Gombe State during the 2023 General Election. This study examines the impact of the media on political awareness in the 2023 General Election in Gombe State using some selected radio stations. The study adopted a mixed-methods research design. Data were obtained from fieldwork and documented sources. Questionnaires were administered in selected areas using purposive random sampling, while key informant interviews were conducted with relevant stakeholders in addition to FGD. The collected data were discussed and analysed using non-automated SPSS. The study reports that the media played an influential role in shaping public opinion, perception, and voting choice and pattern in Gombe State. This remarkable feat was achieved because local languages, particularly Hausa, were being used as the lingua franca. It is recommended that civic education programmes be sponsored by NGOs and other institutions that support democracy to create conscience and empower the locals to follow policies and be involved in the policy-making process, as well as to continue to participate in elections in the future.

Abstract

This article examines the role of Religious-Based Organizations (RBOs) as non-state actors in peacebuilding and regional governance in Southeast Asia. The study addresses the increasing relevance of religion in International Relations (IR), particularly in a region characterized by religious diversity and recurring ethno-religious conflicts. Using a qualitative literature-based approach, this article analyzes the activities of major RBOs in Indonesia and the Philippines, including Nahdlatul Ulama (NU), Muhammadiyah, and the Bishops-Ulama Conference (BUC). The analysis employs Constructivist and Liberal perspectives to explain how RBOs contribute to norm diffusion, interfaith dialogue, conflict mediation, and humanitarian diplomacy. The findings show that RBOs possess moral legitimacy, grassroots networks, and transnational connections that enable them to influence peacebuilding processes beyond formal state mechanisms. However, their effectiveness remains constrained by weak state collaboration, bureaucratic exclusion, political instrumentalization of religion, and internal ideological fragmentation. The article argues that RBOs function as strategic actors in promoting social cohesion and regional stability in Southeast Asia, although their long-term contribution depends on institutional recognition and stronger multi-level cooperation between religious organizations, civil society, and state actors.

Abstract

This study examines the influence of the United States on United Nations decision-making processes regarding the Israel–Palestine conflict through a literature review approach. As a permanent member of the UN Security Council, the United States holds veto power that grants structural authority to block resolutions even when supported by the majority of member states. This research identifies three main dimensions of such influence: (1) the consistent use of veto power to obstruct resolutions unfavorable to Israel, including vetoing three ceasefire resolutions in the first six months of the Gaza war after October 2023; (2) the impact of pro-Israel lobbying on U.S. domestic politics, particularly through organizations such as AIPAC, which systematically shapes American foreign policy in multilateral forums; and (3) informal mechanisms including diplomacy and political pressure on other member states. The consequences of this veto pattern are significant: UN resolutions frequently fail to pass despite majority support, international sanction mechanisms cannot function optimally, and the credibility of the UN as a global peacekeeping institution is further eroded. These findings indicate that UN decision-making is not neutral, but is shaped by an unequal distribution of power within the international system, consistent with the realist perspective in international relations.
