Abstract

Health systems are central to the provision of healthcare, and their structure and functioning significantly affect health outcomes. Equally important is the role that medical journals play in shaping healthcare practices, policies, and research by disseminating valuable knowledge. This article explores the dynamic relationship between health systems and medical journals, emphasizing how robust health infrastructures contribute to the quality, accessibility, and dissemination of medical research. By examining global perspectives, it highlights the direct impact that well-established health systems can have on enhancing the quality and reach of medical journals. Furthermore, the article underscores the challenges faced by health systems, especially in low-resource settings, and how these challenges affect the visibility and impact of medical publications. It concludes with recommendations for enhancing collaboration between health systems and medical journals to improve healthcare delivery and health outcomes globally.

Abstract

The rapid advancement of technology has significantly transformed global health systems, providing opportunities to improve healthcare delivery, reduce costs, and enhance patient care. Innovations in digital health technologies such as electronic health records (EHRs), telemedicine, artificial intelligence (AI), and wearable devices are reshaping healthcare management, improving disease prevention, diagnosis, and treatment processes. Telemedicine, for instance, has bridged the gap between patients and healthcare providers, especially in underserved areas. Likewise, AI and machine learning algorithms have optimized decision-making processes, improving diagnostic accuracy and personalizing treatment plans. Despite these advantages, the widespread adoption of health technologies faces several challenges, including concerns related to data privacy, integration with existing healthcare systems, high implementation costs, and technological disparities in low-resource settings. This paper provides an in-depth exploration of the impact of technology on health systems, highlighting the benefits, challenges, and future directions in utilizing these innovations for improving healthcare delivery worldwide.

Abstract

Health systems worldwide are complex entities that strive to balance the delivery of high-quality care, access to services, cost efficiency, and health equity. The dynamics of these systems vary across countries, often reflecting different models of governance, economic conditions, and cultural norms. A critical factor in optimizing health systems is the continuous integration of research findings, which inform decision-making processes, improve medical practices, and shape healthcare policies. Medical journals are central to this process, serving as the primary platform for disseminating new research and evidence-based recommendations. This article provides a comprehensive review of the evolution of health systems, emphasizing the importance of medical journals in shaping healthcare policy. The paper discusses how medical research and publications contribute to public health improvement, the challenges faced by health systems, and the growing role of digital medical journals in a rapidly changing healthcare environment. By focusing on the relationship between medical journals and health policy, this review highlights how evidence-based medicine is critical in fostering effective and equitable health systems.

Abstract

Maternal and neonatal health remains a critical global challenge, with significant disparities in health outcomes between high-income and low- and middle-income countries. Effective health system interventions are key to improving maternal and neonatal outcomes. A comprehensive, accessible, and quality healthcare system can ensure timely, safe, and effective care for pregnant women and newborns, thus reducing maternal and neonatal morbidity and mortality. This article reviews the role of health system strengthening in improving maternal and neonatal health. It focuses on workforce training, accessibility of maternal and neonatal care services, policy interventions, and the integration of evidence-based practices into healthcare delivery systems. The article further examines successful models of maternal and neonatal health interventions, with a focus on community-based and facility-based strategies. By highlighting key challenges and proposing solutions, this paper provides a roadmap for enhancing health systems to improve outcomes for mothers and newborns worldwide.

Abstract

The aorta consists of the intima, media, and adventitia structures. The aorta serves as the most proximal arterial channel from the heart which is fast because it has a larger diameter. This structure allows the strength and distensibility of the aorta which is an important function in the circulation. Pathological changes in the structure of the aortic wall can occur due to changes in dimensions and stiffness that affects the function of the aorta and left ventricle. In this case report, there was a female patient, 67 years old, complaining of severe shortness of breath, with blood pressure of 170/100 mmHg, pulse 98 x/minute, and respiration 28 x/minute, and increased jugular vein pressure (JVP), wet rhonchi. smooth in the right and left lung and systolic murmur in the aortic valve radiating to the right neck (grade 3), atrial fibrillation and abnormal ST segment on electrocardiography, and a globular structure in the ascending aorta that blocks blood flow from the left ventricle. Symptoms that arise in patients are a complication of an obstruction in the ascending aorta. The possible cause of the blockage in the patient has yet to be determined.

Abstract

Pediculosis is an infestation of lice on the body, head or genitals in humans that occurs throughout the world. Head lice infestation (Pediculosis capitis) affects 100 million people worldwide each year. Pediculosis capitis is more common in developing countries and affects school-aged children. This study was conducted to review and provide information regarding the prevalence and risk factors associated with pediculosis capitis in elementary school-aged children. This method of study uses systematic literature review and data searches through databases such as PubMed, ScienceDirect, ProQuest, Scopus, Springer, Taylor and Francis, Wiley Online Library which discusses the prevalence and risk factors for pediculosis capitis in elementary school-aged children. Eleven cross-sectional studies were included. The results showed that the prevalence of pediculosis capitis in elementary school children ranged from 0.58% to 65.7%, more in girls than boys and tended to be more frequent in the upper grades. In this study, the prevalence of pediculosis capitis was associated with long hair size, low educational level of parents, parents who did not work, large number of family members, and use of shared combs and rare frequency of combing hair during a day.

Abstract

The elderly are defined as individuals aged ≥65 years, increasing rapidly in the United States and are expected to reach 84 million by 2050. One of the main biological processes of systemic damage that contributes to the development of organ dysfunction in aging is immunosenescence (gradual decline in age-related protective immunity) and inflammation (chronic subclinical systemic inflammation). Cortisol, a steroid hormone, is synthesized from cholesterol. Cortisol release is under the control of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis. Corticotropin-releasing hormone (CRH) is released by the paraventricular nucleus (PVN) of the hypothalamus. Normal aging is associated with multiple endocrine changes, including those related to changes in the structure and function of the adrenal glands. A literature search was carried out using three main databases, namely ScienceDirect, Google Scholar and PubMed in journals covering the last ten years (2013-2023) using PRISMA guidelines. Based on the analysis of inclusion and exclusion criteria, there are 8 reference journals that match the research topic. The results of this study show that there is a dynamic regulation of cortisol in the elderly with an increase in cortisol levels in the elderly and these levels are higher in individuals with comorbidities. Based on the systematic review carried out in this study, it was concluded that there are changes in the dynamics of cortisol secretion in the elderly with a significant increase in secretion in certain groups of elderly which is related to the level of stress and comorbidities status.

Abstract

Hajj pilgrimage is a 30-day religious journey in Saudi Arabia undertaken by Muslims, with waiting times often exceeding 5 years, and many of them are elderly individuals requiring stable mental and physical conditions. Mental health is a crucial factor for the well-being of the elderly, with over 20% of them suffering from disorders such as depression, anxiety, and stress. Gender also plays a role, with women being more vulnerable to depression and anxiety. Education level and cognitive function also influence mental health. The Depression, Anxiety, Stress Scale (DASS) is used to assess individual mental health and the severity of depression, anxiety, and stress. This research aims to understand how factors such as age, gender, and education are related to the mental health of prospective Hajj pilgrims from Palembang in 2023 using the DASS instrument. The study found a significant relationship between age and the occurrence of depression but not with gender or education. These factors also did not have a significant relationship with anxiety. In the case of stress, a significant relationship was found between gender and age, while education level did not affect it.
