Abstract

Background: Pregnancy danger signs require early recognition and prompt access to appropriate healthcare services to reduce the risk of maternal and fetal complications. Pregnant women need adequate knowledge to identify symptoms that require immediate attention, such as vaginal bleeding, severe headache, visual disturbances, severe abdominal pain, swelling of the face or hands, fever, convulsions, and decreased fetal movement. However, information provided during routine antenatal care may be limited by consultation time and differences in maternal understanding. Digital education can provide accessible, standardized, and repeatable information through multiple formats, potentially strengthening maternal understanding and recall. Objective: This study aimed to assess the effectiveness of a digital education package in improving pregnant women’s knowledge of pregnancy danger signs. Methods: This draft uses simulated data from a quasi-experimental pretest-posttest study involving 80 pregnant women divided into an intervention group and a comparison group. The intervention group received a seven-day digital education package consisting of short educational videos, infographics, and WhatsApp reminder messages. The educational content focused on identifying common pregnancy danger signs, the importance of seeking timely healthcare, and appropriate actions when danger signs occur. The comparison group received routine antenatal education. Knowledge was assessed before and after the intervention using a 20-item structured questionnaire. Changes in knowledge scores were analyzed and compared between the two groups. Results: Based on the simulated data, the mean knowledge score in the intervention group increased from 11.6±2.8 at pretest to 17.4±1.9 at posttest. In the comparison group, the mean score increased from 11.8±2.7 to 13.0±2.5. The intervention group demonstrated a substantially greater improvement in knowledge, and the between-group posttest difference was statistically significant (p<0.001). Conclusion: Digital education combining short videos, infographics, and reminders has the potential to improve pregnant women’s knowledge of pregnancy danger signs and may complement routine antenatal counselling. However, the findings are based on simulated data, and empirical field data, ethical approval, informed consent, and appropriate statistical analysis are required before publication.

Abstract

Background: Continuity of antenatal care (ANC) is essential for monitoring maternal and fetal health, identifying pregnancy complications at an early stage, and providing preventive and promotive interventions throughout pregnancy. Regular ANC visits also provide opportunities for healthcare professionals to assess maternal conditions, monitor fetal growth, provide health education, and encourage healthy pregnancy behaviors. However, some pregnant women may miss scheduled visits because of limited knowledge, forgetfulness, difficulties in planning appointments, or insufficient understanding of the importance of regular follow-up. Digital booklets may provide accessible and concise information that can be reviewed repeatedly and may be combined with reminders to support ANC attendance. Objective: This study aimed to examine the effect of a digital booklet combined with reminder messages on pregnant women’s adherence to scheduled ANC visits. Methods: This draft uses data from a prospective quasi-experimental study involving 88 pregnant women who were allocated into an intervention group and a comparison group, with 44 participants in each group. The intervention group received a digital booklet containing information about the importance of ANC, recommended visit schedules, pregnancy danger signs, preparation for ANC visits, and maternal health practices. Participants also received weekly reminder messages for eight weeks. The comparison group received routine ANC information without the digital booklet and scheduled reminders. ANC adherence was defined as attendance at all scheduled ANC visits during the follow-up period. Attendance records were used to assess adherence and the number of completed visits. Results: Based on the data, ANC adherence was 84.1% in the intervention group compared with 61.4% in the comparison group, with a statistically significant difference (p=0.017). The intervention group also completed a higher mean number of scheduled ANC visits during follow-up. Conclusion: A digital booklet combined with regular reminders may support ANC adherence by improving access to information, appointment planning, awareness of the importance of routine follow-up, and maternal engagement with pregnancy care. However, the findings presented are based on data. Actual field data, appropriate ethical approval, informed consent, and valid statistical analysis are required before publication.

Abstract

Background: Birth preparedness is an important component of safe motherhood and requires emotional, informational, financial, and practical support during pregnancy. Adequate preparation enables pregnant women and their families to make timely decisions regarding place of birth, skilled birth attendance, transportation, financial resources, companionship, emergency support, and recognition of maternal and fetal danger signs. Husbands may play an important role in supporting maternal decision-making and facilitating access to appropriate maternity care. Objective: This study aimed to examine the association between husband support and pregnant women’s readiness for childbirth. Methods: This cross-sectional study involved 120 pregnant women in their third trimester. Husband support was assessed using a multidimensional questionnaire covering emotional, informational, instrumental, and decision-making support. Childbirth readiness was assessed based on several preparedness components, including planned place of birth, skilled birth attendant, transportation, availability of funds, birth companion, blood donor plan, and recognition of pregnancy and childbirth danger signs. Data were analyzed to determine the association between husband support and childbirth readiness using the chi-square test and odds ratio. Results: Among women who received high levels of husband support, 83.3% were categorized as ready for childbirth, compared with 50.0% among women who received low levels of support. Statistical analysis demonstrated a significant association between husband support and childbirth readiness (χ²=15.24; p<0.001). The odds ratio was 5.00, indicating that women with high husband support had higher odds of being categorized as ready for childbirth compared with those receiving low support. Conclusion: Strong husband support is associated with better childbirth readiness among third-trimester pregnant women. Couple-centered antenatal counselling that actively involves husbands may strengthen birth preparedness and encourage shared decision-making regarding maternal and newborn care.

Abstract

Background: Anxiety before childbirth is commonly experienced by primigravida women and may influence psychological readiness, confidence, and the overall childbirth experience. Anxiety management is therefore an important component of comprehensive antenatal services. Deep-breathing relaxation is a simple, non-pharmacological technique that can be taught and practiced during antenatal care. Integrating structured education into antenatal service management may provide pregnant women with practical skills to manage anxiety before childbirth. Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of structured education on deep-breathing relaxation in reducing anxiety among primigravida women approaching childbirth and to examine its potential integration into antenatal service delivery. Methods: A quasi-experimental pretest-posttest control group design was conducted involving 60 primigravida women at 36–40 weeks of gestation. Participants were divided into an intervention group and a control group. The intervention group received structured education about deep-breathing relaxation accompanied by guided practice for seven days, while the control group received routine antenatal care. Anxiety levels were assessed before and after the intervention using a standardized anxiety measurement scale. The changes in anxiety scores were subsequently compared between the two groups. Results: The mean anxiety score in the intervention group decreased from 24.6±5.1 before the intervention to 16.1±4.3 after the intervention. In the control group, the mean score decreased from 23.9±5.0 to 22.8±5.2. The difference in changes between the intervention and control groups was statistically significant (p<0.001). Conclusion: Structured deep-breathing relaxation education may reduce anxiety among primigravida women approaching childbirth. Integration of this intervention into antenatal counselling may support the management and quality of maternal health services by providing standardized education, guided practice, and supportive psychological care.

Abstract

Background: The postpartum period is a critical time for mothers to develop adequate knowledge and practical skills in newborn care. Mothers need to understand and perform essential practices, including breastfeeding, umbilical cord care, thermal protection, hygiene, safe sleep, and recognition of newborn danger signs. Video-based education may provide clear visual demonstrations and allow mothers to review information repeatedly. Objective: This study aimed to determine the effect of video-based education on postpartum mothers’ knowledge and practical skills in newborn care. Methods: This draft uses simulated data from a quasi-experimental pretest-posttest control group study involving 72 postpartum mothers, consisting of 36 participants in the intervention group and 36 in the comparison group. The intervention group received a 12-minute educational video covering breastfeeding, cord care, thermal protection, hygiene, safe sleep, and newborn danger signs, followed by guided practice. The comparison group received standard postpartum education. Knowledge was assessed using a structured questionnaire, while practical skills were evaluated using an observation checklist before and after the intervention. Results: Based on the simulated data, the intervention group showed an increase in mean knowledge scores from 12.3±2.6 to 18.4±1.4 and practical skill scores from 9.1±2.2 to 14.7±1.5. The intervention group demonstrated greater improvements in both knowledge and skills compared with the comparison group, with a statistically significant difference (p<0.001). Conclusion: Video-based education combined with guided practice may improve postpartum mothers’ knowledge and practical skills in newborn care. This approach may complement conventional postpartum counselling and support mothers in preparing for safe newborn care at home. However, the findings are based on simulated data, and actual research data are required before publication.
