Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the quality of a 20-item biotechnology test using the Rasch Model. The item analysis identified three misfitting items (S7, S14, S19) whose Outfit MNSQ values exceeded the model’s acceptable range. The difficulty levels ranged from –2.94 to +5.11 logits, indicating a wide spread of item complexity but with a tendency toward extreme categories, dominated by very easy and very difficult items. At the respondent level, 11 students (22%) showed misfitting response patterns, suggesting potential guessing or inconsistent answering behavior. Although item and person reliability were classified as good, the presence of misfit patterns indicates the need for instrument refinement. Key recommendations include revising the misfitting items, adding more items within the moderate difficulty range to fill gaps at the extremes, and restructuring the test blueprint to achieve a more balanced distribution of difficulty. The findings highlight the importance of Rasch-based calibration to produce more accurate and objective educational assessments.

Abstract

Pekalongan is one of the cities famously known as The World’s City of Batik. One type of batik that has developed and is closely associated with coastal areas like Pekalongan is coastal batik (batik pesisiran). Coastal batik is characterized by its diverse motifs, including the use of fauna ornaments as aesthetic elements. These motifs can be analyzed through an ethnozoological approach to broaden public knowledge about the relationship between local culture and fauna. This study aims to describe the ethnozoological aspects found in the motifs of Pekalongan’s coastal batik and to assess the feasibility of a developed reference book based on content validation, media validation, and community responses. The research employed a mixed-method approach, combining ethnographic methods and the 4D development model (Define, Design, Develop, Disseminate), which was limited to the Develop stage. The study identified 18 animal species depicted in the motifs of coastal batik and 2 animal species whose body parts are used in the production of malam (batik wax). The developed reference book received a content validation score of 92.7% from subject matter experts and 87.5% from media experts, both categorized as highly feasible. The community response test yielded a score of 93.2%, also categorized as highly feasible. These findings indicate a close relationship between humans and animals in daily life, not only as a source of livelihood but also as symbolic elements in cultural expressions such as batik. Therefore, the developed reference book is considered appropriate and suitable for use as an additional source of information for the general public.

Abstract

Although tobacco is a widely cultivated crop in Trucuk District, Klaten Regency, many young people and students have limited knowledge about the benefits of tobacco, except for its use as a cigarette ingredient. This limited knowledge of young people and students occurs because there is no media as a source of information about the benefits of tobacco in Trucuk District, Klaten Regency. Thus, an ethnobotanical study of tobacco in Trucuk District needs to be developed into an e-booklet. The purpose of this study is to analyze the ethnobotanical profile of tobacco in Trucuk District, Klaten Regency, and the feasibility of the e-booklet that has been developed. The method used in this study is a qualitative mixed research approach, combining ethnographic research and R&D, with a 4D model for e-booklet development. The results of this study revealed seven additional uses of tobacco, beyond its use as a cigarette ingredient, including as an insecticide, animal repellent, traditional medicine, a trading commodity, fuel, a component in betel chewing, and a complement to traditional ceremonies and rituals. The e-booklet development results obtained a feasibility percentage of 91.1% from material experts, 91% from media experts, and 94.96% from public response. The study concluded that there are seven benefits of tobacco beyond its use as a cigarette ingredient, and the e-booklet's feasibility rating was 92.93%, which is classified as suitable for use.

Abstract

The learning of horticultural crop cultivation subject conducted in the Agrotechnology study program at University of Kahuripan Kediri is still lacking in teaching materials that can stimulate critical thinking, creativity, and understanding among students. In addition, the textbooks used in learning are still not adjusted to the learning outcomes and objectives of the Horticultural Crop Cultivation subject, so that the learning and textbooks used are not in sync. This prompted researchers to conduct research on the development of teaching books based on HOTS questions. This development research is expected to facilitate students, particularly in the Horticultural Crop Cultivation course, to enhance their understanding and critical and creative thinking through the HOTS questions presented in the textbook. The research was conducted using five development stages: information collection, prototype development, textbook production, subject matter expert validation, media expert validation, readability testing, and revision. The results of this textbook development research showed that the expert content validation scored 90%, categorized as highly suitable and very good for use, the expert media validation scored 82.5%, categorized as suitable and permissible for use with revisions, and the textbook readability test resulted in 92.5%, meaning it is highly suitable and can be used in learning. The research contributes to supporting critical thinking-based contextual learning in The Horticultural Crop Cultivation Course. This textbook contains a cover page, foreword, table of contents, and 14 chapters complete with HOTS questions. The materials in this textbook, which are adapted to the RPS, cover the scope of horticultural cultivation, propagation, classification and life cycle of plants, planting patterns, planting methods, weeds, mulch, irrigation, fertilisers, planting media, respiration, pot plants, organic farming, and horticultural plants. This research contributes to supporting contextual learning based on critical thinking in the Horticultural Crop Cultivation course.

Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the quality of a biology teacher competency test instrument by examining item validity, discriminating power, difficulty level, distractor effectiveness, and reliability. The research subjects were 54 Biology Teacher Professional Education (PPG) students at Universitas Negeri Malang, who completed a 35-item multiple-choice test designed with five answer options. Data analysis was conducted using the classical test theory approach. The results indicated that out of 35 items, 22 met the validity criteria (CITC > 0.30), while 13 items were declared invalid. The discriminating power analysis showed that the majority of items fell into the poor category (27 items), with 8 items being rated as sufficient. Regarding difficulty level, the test was predominantly easy (25 items), with 5 moderate and 2 difficult items. Distractor analysis revealed that 14 items had functioning distractors, whereas the other 21 did not. The reliability test yielded a Cronbach's Alpha coefficient of 0.900, which indicated very high internal consistency. Based on these findings, 27 items were reused after revision, while 8 items were discarded. This study underscores the importance of item analysis in ensuring instrument validity and reliability. Furthermore, it provides a crucial foundation for the development of more representative biology teacher competency test instruments, thereby supporting the continuous improvement of assessment quality and teacher professionalism.

Abstract

One of the ways to support continuous professional development is by providing instruments that can accurately measure competence. The instruments used in professional development programs need to be reanalyzed to ensure the quality of the program. The objectives of this study are (1) to describe the empirical testing results of an instrument measuring vocational teachers’ pedagogical understanding in a professional development program, and (2) to describe the relationships among item validity, difficulty level, and discrimination index. The respondents were 99 vocational school teachers from various regions across Indonesia. The study employed a psychometric analysis based on Classical Test Theory (CTT), consisting of item validity, discrimination index, difficulty level, distractor effectiveness, and reliability. The findings revealed that out of 35 items, only 17 could be used with revisions; among them, 9 were valid, 14 had adequate discrimination power, 10 were of moderate difficulty, 3 had all options functioning effectively as distractors, and the reliability coefficient was 0.711. The correlation coefficient between validity and discrimination was 0.747, while that between discrimination and difficulty level was -0.023. The study recommends revising and adding more items to improve the quality of the instrument analysis.

Abstract

This study aims to develop a valid and reliable Academic Potential Test (APT) instrument tailored to the characteristics of students in the Agribusiness Fisheries Study Program. The research employed a research and development approach using the 4D model (Define, Design, Develop, Disseminate). The define stage focused on identifying needs and determining measurement objectives, while the design stage involved constructing a test blueprint and writing items validated by experts. During the development stage, the instrument was piloted with Agribussiness Fisheries students in August 2025, and the results were analyzed using Classical Test Theory to determine item difficulty level, discrimination index, item validity, distractor effectiveness, and reliability. The dissemination stage included revising the instrument based on the analysis to produce the final version. The results revealed that out of 35 test items developed, 21 items were selected as the final instrument based on validity, difficulty level, and discrimination index analyses. Fourteen items were discarded, 19 items were revised, and 2 items were retained without revision. The reliability of the final instrument achieved a Cronbach's alpha coefficient of 0.780, indicating a high level of internal consistency. The developed APT instrument is expected to assist in mapping students' cognitive abilities, supporting instructional interventions, and improving the quality of academic evaluation in college.
