Abstract

Dielectric properties indicated the ability of a system to store, transmit anf reflect electromagnetic wave energy. Recently, the utilization of the properties in agriculture field tends tio increase. For example, dielectric drying of biological material is based on the product's ability to absorb electromagnetic radiation and convert inyo heat. In addition, lower energy application of the property can be utilitized for non-destructive measurement of water content. For a more broed application, measurement of the property anf the influencing factors is indispensable.

Abstract

The freshness of the dead fish is very difficult to be known visually whereas the use of chemical analyses is not only time consuming but also is not readily available at for market. Therefore, it is considered necessary to find out a newmethod for that purpose. In this. research, a prototype instrument for measuring freshness of the dead fish was designed based on the fish electrical resistance. The sensor was made of a couple of steel wires with diameter of 0.5 mm. During measurement, the wires sensor was inserted into the fish body with the distance of 2 cm to each other. Result of the research showed linear relationship between dead fish freshness and its resistance. The linear relationship was also found between water content of the fish body and its resistance.

Abstract

Discharge of a stream flow is one process in hydrologic cycle. Fluctuation of discharge - directly or indirectly - is more affected by rainfall intensity. Because rainfall intensity is dependent on weather (climate), discharge will be fluctuated dependent on change of weather (climate). In a long period (for example 10 years), data of discharge will become a data series. A data series of discharge is a stochastic data. There are two aspects in a data series, i.e. probability aspect and time aspects. A data series can be simulated with based on stochastic concept. One of the methods that can be used is Monte Carlo Simulation Method. Furthermore, in this paper will be exposed the resuff of accurateness of Monte Catlo Simulation Method to simulate data series of discharge. Mean weekly data series of discharge of Cikapundung stream flow (Cigulung-Cikapundung sub watershed in North Bandung - West Java), were used.

Abstract

Kata Kunci: biji ginkgo, deteksi ujung biji, pengolahan citra, morfologi analisis Abstract Ginkgo nut has to be cracked to obtain its soft and usefull meat for utilization. Abstract

Two major parameters which determine inner quality and the taste of mango, total soluble solids (TSS) and firmness, are still determined destructively. To evaluate the feasibility of near infrared reflectance spectroscopy (NIRS) technique in determining total soluble solids (TSS) contents and firmness in intact mango, diffuse reflectance (R) spectra were measured in the spectral range from 900 to 1400 nm. Calibration models using R and log (1/R) were established by stepwise multiple linear regression with k-fold leave oneout (LOO) cross validation. The correlation coefficients (r) of calibrations ranged from 0.89 to 0.96 with SEC values 0.46 to 1.08. Both TSS and firmness were predicted accurately using log (1/R) spectra. Keywords: mango, NIRS, firmness, TSS, non-destructiveDiterima: 8 Juni 2008; Disetujui: 31 Januari 2009

Abstract

Ultrasound is predicted to be able to accelerate the chemical reaction, to increase the conversion of plant oil into biodiesel, and to decrease the need of catalyst and energy input. The application of ultrasound for processing of biodiesel and the mathematical model were conducted in this research. The result of the experiments showed that the ultrasound increased reaction rate and the conversion of palm oil into biodiesel up to 100%. It was better than the process with mechanical stirrer that the conversion was just 96%. The duration to complete the process using ultrasound was 1 minute. It was 30 to 120 times faster than that withmechanical stirrer. Ultrasound transforms mechanical energy into inner energy of the fluids and causes an increasing of temperature. Simultaneously, natural mixing process undergo because of acoustic circulation. Simulation with experiment data showed that the acceleration of transesterification with ultrasound was affected not only by natural mixing and increasing temperature. The cavitation, surface tension of micro bubble, and hot spot accelerate chemical reaction. In fact, transesterification of palm oil with ultrasound still needs catalyst. It needs only about 20% of catalyst compared to the process with mechanical stirrer. Keywords : Biodiesel, transesterification, mathematical modeling, ultrasoundDiterima: 16 September 2008; Disetujui: 10 Pebruari 2009

Abstract

Recession curve is a spesific part of stream hygrograph after it reachs peak flow and it represents the withdrawal of groundwater from storage. Daily recession constant of surface runoff, interflow, and baseflow have been derived for 15 segments on Goseng subwatershed with area approximately 596 ha.Semi logarithmic plot is recession analysis method which plotting stream discharge in y-ordinate and time in x-coordinate in semi logarithmic scale. The start of time recession is denoted by a straight line in the graphic. This method was used for separating a hydrograph into linear components of surface runoff, interflow, and baseflow. The results of the research shows that recession segment from daily hydrographhas short time and does not have all three stream components. A short segment can only be divided into two flow components. Separation pattern for water catchment area are baseflow-interflow, baseflow-surfacerunoff, and interflow-surface runoff. Recession constant value differ from year to year but the differences do not have great influence in determining the average value of recession constant. Keywords : surface runoff, interflow, base flow, recession constant, semi logarithmic plotDiterima: 26 Agustus 2008; Disetujui: 3 Pebruari 2009
