Abstract

The Proton Exchange Membrane Fuel Cell (PEMFC) is a type of fuel cell that converts hydrogen fuel into electrical energy. In PEMFC, platinum (Pt) supported by carbon black (CB) is frequently used as a catalyst. The catalyst has several constraints cause it to agglomerate and corrode during fuel cell operations. Carbon Nanotubes (CNTs) are a contender as a catalyst-supporting material because they offer superior properties such as hydrophobicity, conductivity, and surface area. This study used pH modifications in the synthesis process, morphology, and electrochemical performance of the Pt/CNTs catalyst to evaluate the reduced size of Pt particles and increased CNTs surface area. During the catalyst synthesis procedure, colloidal solutions with pH variations of 11 and 13 were utilized. TEM analysis showed that at pH 13, the produced Pt nanoparticles had the least average particle size of 4.2 nm, followed by 5.1 and 7.9 for pH 9 and 11, respectively. The best electrochemical performance was achieved in pH 13 samples with the largest active surface area of 40.33 m2/g, an onset potential of 0.798 V involving 4.01 electrons for the oxygen reduction reaction, and the lowest risk of deterioration.

Abstract

The disruption of communication technology causes humans to continue to reflect on who they are and how they view the world. The more humans utilize communication technology that continues to change, the more they will examine their existence and the model of social interaction that underlies their lives, and the greater the opportunity for humans to shape communication technology in ways that improve the world situation. Humans reflect on themselves as sources of authority and meaning. Liberals with a subjectivist view emphasize the experiences that occur within humans, so humans must find within themselves the meaning of everything that happens so that they can inspire meaning for the universe. Meanwhile, Dataist with an intersubjectivity view emphasize that meaning occurs in a network of stories mutually told among many people in one world as an experience of one individual. Thus, the essence of humanism in the experience of intersubjectivity reflects humans as a source of authority and meaning occurring in a network of stories told to each other among many people worldwide. The acceleration of communication technology, especially computer algorithms, is used to read stories told by many people in one world, analyze the structure or elements of each story, and turn the stories of many people into wisdom for a better global civilization on Earth. Based on the above reasoning, this article offers a solution to efforts to rebuild global civilization on Earth with the contribution of computer algorithms. Optimally, communication technology with intelligent computer algorithms strengthens the social order, bringing global citizens closer together as one human civilization. The empowerment of communication technology through computer algorithms creates a better global civilization by implementing the values of freedom and equality for humanity. The research method uses a phenomenological methodology, while the theoretical framework uses intersubjective theory and data theory.

Abstract

Many studies in the literature have a premise that design patterns improve the quality of object-oriented software systems. Considerable research has been devoted to re-designing the system to improve software quality, mainly on its maintainability and reliability. Less attention has been paid to evaluating the impact of the performance efficiency quality factor. This research investigates the impact of design patterns on application performance and complexity. It is, therefore, beneficial to evaluate whether the design patterns may improve its performance and complexity or even decrease it. The research demonstrates scientific evidence in quantitative values through experimentation on a case study to present its influences. This paper uses an object-oriented enterprise project named SIA as a case study. Some issues related to design patterns are addressed. The selection of the design pattern is based on the application context issue. Three attributes related to performance efficiency are evaluated: time behavior, resource utilization, and capacity measures. The complexity is also evaluated. We use Apache JMeter and Java Mission Control as tools to support experimentation. The experiment results show that design patterns may decrease the quality of time behavior and resource utilization whilst they may increase the quality of capacity measures and complexity to a significant degree.

Abstract

A shipyard company certainly has a recording system to manage raw material inventory. The minimum-maximum stock level method analysis was used to calculate raw material inventory control. The calculation results obtained using the min-max stock level method, amounting to 14 items of fiberglass ship raw materials, were calculated, and the resin has the highest utilization value. The ending stock in 2022 for the resin is 195 liters, while the calculated safety stock is 2.08 liters. The Min-Max Stock Level method has not been implemented in the company’s raw material inventory. A website-based system is used to control the inventory system. Inventory system development is needed so that the inventory management system in the company runs effectively and efficiently. The quality of system development can be measured based on the ISO 25010 standard feasibility test. Based on three aspects of the ISO 25010 standard, the test results show the percentage results based on the functional suitability aspect of 100% for each validator, which means the percentage in the system criteria is acceptable. In the usability aspect, the percentage obtained is 92.2%, indicating that the designed system’s quality is included in the feasible criteria. In eight, the maintainability aspect of the inventory management information system is included in the easy-to-maintain category. The system assessment results based on ISO 25010 can be summarized as follows.

Abstract

The research work considered the development of an attendance system using Artificial Intelligence technology. Using the Android mobile operating system developed by Google, XML, and Java programming, a smart attendance management system (SAMA) is developed for daily student attendance in colleges or schools. SAMA attempts to record attendance through face detection. Accordingly, it enhances academic performance in schools as students must attain minimum attendance requirements before they are allowed to take their examinations. It also prevents examination malpractice, such as impersonation during tests and exams. SAMA was designed and implemented using Olabisi Onabanjo University, Department of Electronic and Electrical Engineering, as a case study. Results showed that the proposed model eliminates or reduces the time wasted during manual collection of attendance, creates a student database management system that is not prone to errors or being manipulated by users, and, above all, aids in better management of classroom statistics for allocation of attendance.

Abstract

Classifying agility levels presents challenges due to variations in team members’ personalities, roles, and undesirable behaviors. This study aims to enhance classification accuracy by comparing the performance of three algorithms: K-Nearest Neighbors (KNN), Random Forest, and Fuzzy-Particle Swarm Optimization (F-PSO) in classifying agility levels using simple feature scaling as part of the data preprocessing. Simple feature scaling is employed to ensure that all parameters are on the same scale, thereby improving the model’s effectiveness in learning classification patterns. F-PSO was selected for its ability to perform adaptive global search optimization within a fuzzy environment, while KNN and Random Forest serve as benchmarks. The study involved 160 participants from various Scrum teams to evaluate the effectiveness of these algorithms. The parameters considered included team members’ personalities (based on the Keirsey model), roles within the team, and the identification of negative behavior patterns (antipatterns). The results indicated that the F-PSO algorithm significantly outperformed KNN and Random Forest in terms of accuracy, improving from an average accuracy of 25% before optimization to 93.75% after applying F-PSO. This approach enables Scrum teams to identify and address obstacles affecting agility, facilitating earlier problem prediction and resolution, leading to more adaptive and effective teams.

Abstract

Congestion is a problem in most big cities, including Surabaya. One alternative to reduce congestion is to create city transportation with excellent service. Surabaya has had city transportation, city buses and also commuter trains for a long time. However, it is considered that travelers do not have excellent service. In 2023, a new city transportation will be created with the name Wira Wiri Suroboyo (WWS) with the aim of diverting some private vehicle users toWWS. However, until now,WWS has not been able to attract the interest of the public who use private vehicles. So it is necessary to research the operational performance of theWWS and analyze integration opportunities with commuter trains. The research method used was conducting field surveys and interviews with WWS passengers. The results of the survey show that load factor, headway, departure frequency, number of vehicles in operation are still not optimal to divert private vehicle users toWWS and at the same time integrate with commuter trains. Therefore, other efforts are needed to limit private vehicles in order to provide cross-subsidies for public transportation. So that it does not burden operational costs which have been borne by the Government.
