Abstract

Model FMU management plan Sintuwu Maroso as one model of community -based forest utilization . This is also expected through community access to forest areas. Thus the public will be more empowered and able to improve the ability, in using the natural resources optimally. But to realize it needed information about the potential and prospects, which is the social and cultural potential in supporting the development in the FMU Model Sintuwu Maroso. The research was conducted in the Tambarana village. Specified site intentionally (purposive sampling), with the main consideration, this village is one of the villages that fall within the area development model Sintuwu Maroso KPH. Analysis of the data is a descriptive analysis. From the results, it can be concluded as follows, that Socio-cultural potentials that exist in the Tambarana village, may indirectly support the Forest Management Unit (FMU) Sintuwu Maroso, Tambarana Village Community also has the potential to be social and cultural customs handed down through generations in terms of land use, the community formed a Land Control Team, and Other socio- cultural potential, characterized by harmonious relationships between residents and village rules made ​​to prevent the emergence of the conflict, one of which was the establishment of the FKUB. Abstract

There are about ± 4.000 wood species in Indonesia. In small amount of that woods were categorized as durable wood (Class I and II) while mostly (80-85%) were categorized non-durable wood (Class III to V). This study was aimed to determine the effects of Lantana camara L. leaves extracts as preservation material of Pterospermum sp wood on the Coptotermes sp. attacks. The experiment was conducted in the laboratory of Forestry science, Forestry Faculty, Tadulako University, from May to June 2013. The study was using completely randomized design with pattern. The treatment of study was applying two factors. First, concentration of L.camara L. extracts with three levels, namely ;9,09 g (K1), 13,04 g (K2), and 16,66 g (K3). Second, Dipping time with three levels, namely: 1 day (L1), 3 days (L3), and 5 days (L5). Data was analyzed by using analysis (Anova).The results showed that water contents and density of Pterospermum sp. woods was 8,37% and 0,321 g/cm³, respectively. Hence, the highest weight loss was achieved by K1L1 combination treatment (9,99%) while the lowest was achieved by K3L5 combination treatment (8,93%). Generally, concentration of L.camara L. and dipping time extracts did not affect significantly the weight loss of Pterospermum sp woods. Abstract

Land use and forest harvesting (timber and non-timber) could lead to the opening of ground cover. This activity would lead to disruption of physical properties, chemical and biological soil, especially in the top soil.The purpose of this study was to determine the physical properties of soil on different types of land use, i.e in primary forest, agroforestry and cocoa plantation in the sub-watershed Wera Saluopa which is part of the sub-watershed area of Maraoa Koronjongi. The study was conducted from May till July 2013, on the various types (primary forest, cocoa plantation and agroforestry land) for soil sampling, laboratory analysis of soil samples and analysis of data. Study site selection was purposive sampling where Saluopa Wera Sub-watershed, in the village of Leboni, District Puselemba Pamona, Poso Regency of Central Sulawesi.The results showed that the physical properties of the soil at various types of land use in the sub-watershed of WeraSaluopa have sandy loam soil texture, soil permeability varies from very slow (primary forest) to very fast (agroforestry), soil porosity from 49.93% (primary forest) to 54.04% (cocoa plantation) with high bulk density ≥ 1.0. Hence, the highest of soil organic matter was in primary forest(7.09) followed by cocoa plantation (5.86) and agroforestry land (4,12). Abstract

Tarsier (Tarsius sp.) are alboreal species which life on the trees. The vegetation is one of the important biotic factors for the wild animal as a place for food, nesting places and shelter from extrim weather and hide from predators. The study aims were to determine the spesies composition and association of vegetation of tarsius (Tarsius sp.) habitat in Kamarora village. Research methods using multiple plots placed by purposive sampling at tarsier habitat. The results showed that the species composition at all levels of the growth obtained thirty two plant species. Based on the analysis of Chi-square (X2) between species at each level of the growth (seedlings, saplings, pole and tree) obtained that twenty four plant significantly associated tangible and four plant species were associated very significant. Abstract

Kemiri (Aleurites moluccana (L.) Willd.) is a multipurpose tree that has been cultivated widely in the world. This is a native plant species of Indo-Malaysia and was introduced to the Pacific Islands. In Indonesia, kemiri have long been planted, either for commercial or subsistence purposes to support the life of the community, especially in eastern part of Indonesia. This species can be used for various purposes, such as seeds source for planting purposes, cooking materials and medicine, while the stem woods can be used for furniture and construction. This study aimed to determine the effect of various doses of Bokashi on the growth of Kemiri (A.moluccana (L.) Willd.) seedling The research was conducted from April to June 2013, at the Permanent Nursery, Tadulako University, Palu Central Sulawesi. The experiment was laid out in a Randomized Complete Design (RCD) with four treatments, Control that received no Bokashi application (D0), Soils + Bokashi 1:1 (D1), Soils + Bokashi 2:1 (D2), Soils + Bokashi 3:1 (D3). Observation Parameters consist of seedling height increment, stem diameter increment, and increment of leaf number per plant. The results of the study showed that there were significant differences between the treatments in all the parameters assessed. Keywords : Doses, Bokashi, Growth, Aleurites moluccana (L.) Willd.

Abstract

This research was conducted on May 2013 - July 2013 in Dongi-Dongi area at Lore-Lindu National Park, to determine the species composition, attendance rates, species diversity, composition based on category guild and species evenness of birds. This rescarch used transect method. Data were collected using four units of 500 m line transect each. For residential area and around forest habitat, it was found there are 45 species of bird within 25 families where 22 of them are endemic. In residential area there were 8 species with attendance rate of 100 %, 2 species of 75 %, 5 species of 50 % and 16 species of 25 %. Meanwhile, the diversity index in residential area (H) was 3.19 , and 3.17 in forest habitat. In addition, evenness in residential area and forest habitat ispectively (E) are 0. 93 and 0.89. Based on the category guild, 7 compositions found in residential area and 9 in forest habitat. Keywords: Diversity, bird species, forest, Dongi-Dongi residential.

Abstract

The research objective were to analyze the vegetation of orchid habitat and to determine orchids species around Tambing Lake, Lore Lindu National Park area, Sedoa village, Lore Utara district, Poso regency, Central Sulawesi. The study employed survey method. The vegetation was recorded in 20m x 20m plots by using purposive sampling methods in orchid habitat. The collected data include all plant species and growth level swithin the sampling plot. The total observation area was 0,16 ha. The results showed that the total number of tree level of plant species recorded was 38 species comprising 9 families with the highest Importance Value Index (IVI) was 61,62%. The total number of pole level of plant species recorded was 34 species comprising 7 families with the highest IVI was 74, 43%. The total number of sapling level of plant species recorded was 37 species comprising 9 families with the highest IVI was 65,41%. Hence, The total number of seedling level of plant species recorded was 31 species comprising 7 families with the highest IVI was 49,34%. The highest IVI at all growth levels was achieved by Kaha (Castanopsis accuminatisima). In addition, there were 12 orchid species comprising 8 genus founded in this area,i.e; Agrostophyllum, Bulbophyllum, Calanthe, Coelogyne, Dendrobium, Dendrochyllum, Eria, and Trichotosia. Abstract

A bird is a wildlife which could be found almost in any vegetated environment. The existence of a bird in one area is very important because it could affect the presence and distribution of plant species. This study aims to determine species composition, attendance of birds, evennes, species diversity, and the dominance of birds in Saembawalati Swamp Forest. The study was conducted from April to June 2013. Data collection was carried out using line transect method. After conducting the research in Saembawalati swamp forest, it was found 34 species of birds from 15 families, swamp forest habitat tree vegetation zones have indeks values species diversity (H) = 2.75 and evenness (E) = 0.11 and swamp forest habitat zones has turf vegetation index values species diversity (H)=3.00 and evennes (E) = 0.10. There were four species of birds that are always found in the swamp forest of Saembawalati; Egretta garzetta, Gallinula chloropus, Phaenicophaeus calyorhynchus, and Amaurornis phoenicurus. Hence, Saembawalati swamp forest was dominated by four species of birds; Bubulcus ibis, Egretta garzetta, Dicrurus hottentottus, Phaenicophaeus calyorhynchus. Abstract

Nowadays, utilization ofnon-durable wood species in Indonesia is one alternative to meet the needs ofthe wood. Use natural preservatives such as Orthosiphon aristatus in natural wood preservation processis highly recommended as environmentally friendly.This study was aimed to determine retention and the effects of Orthosiphon aristatus leaves extracts as preservation material of Durio zibethinus wood on the Coptotermes sp. Attacks. Regency and the laboratory of Forestry Science, Tadulako University, from May to June 2013. The study was using completely randomized design with factorial pattern. The treatment of study was applying two factors. First, concentration of Orthosiphon aristatus extracts with three levels, namely; 9.09% (A1), 16,67% (A2), and 23,07% (A3). Second, Dipping time with three levels,namely: 1 day (B1), 3 days (B2), and 5 days (B3). The results showed that the highest retention value (3,538g/cm3) was achieved by the combination treatment between concentration 23,07% and dipping time 5 days (A3B3) while the lowest retention value (0,562g/cm3) was achieved by the combination treatment between concentration 9,09% and dipping time 1 day (A1B1). Hence, the lowest effectivity of preservation materials indicated by the highest weight loss,was achieved by A1B1 combination treatment (3,37%) while the lowest (highest effectivity) was achieved by (A3B3) combination treatment (1,88%). Abstract

The aims of this research was to determine the effects of some growing medium and concentration of organic liquid fertilizer on the growth of Palaquium sp seedlings. The research was conducted from April to July 2013, at the Permanent Nursery, Tadulako University, Palu Central Sulawesi. The experiment was laid out in a Randomized Complete Design (RCD) with factorial pattern. First, growing medium consist of four treatments; soils/control (P0), Soils+Sand+Compos 1:1:1 (P1), Soils+Sand+Compos 2:1:1 (P2), Soils+Sand+Compos 3:1:1 (P3). Second, concentration of organic liquid fertilizer; 0 ppm/kontrol (C0), 1,0 ppm (C1), 1,5 ppm (C2) and 2,0 ppm (C3). Observation Parameters consist of seedling height increment, stem diameter increment, and increment of leaf number per plant. The results of the study showed that there were significant differences between the treatments in all the parameters assessed. The highest seedling height increment (16,4 cm) was achieved by combination treatment between P2C2. The highest stem diameter increment (0,32 mm) was also achieved by combination treatment between P0C1. Hence, for the single effect of the treatments, the highest leaf number increment was achieved by Soils+Sand+Compos 2:1:1 treatment (P2) and concentration of organic liquid fertilizer 1,5 ppm (C2) with value 6,05 and 6,15 pieces, respectively.
