Abstract

Background: The Covid-19 pandemic significantly disrupted educational systems, including higher education, where students faced challenges in completing theses due to remote learning, limited access to resources, and increased anxiety. Self-esteem plays a crucial role in shaping students"™ responses to these challenges. Objective: To analyze the relationship between self-esteem and anxiety levels among students completing theses during the Covid-19 pandemic at Universitas Tanjungpura. Methods: This quantitative study used a descriptive survey design with a cross-sectional approach. Data were collected from 67 students in the Pharmacy and Nursing Programs using online questionnaires, including demographic data, the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale (RSE), and the GAD-7 anxiety scale. Bivariate analysis was performed using the Spearman Rank Correlation test. Results: The majority of students exhibited normal self-esteem (88.0%) and mild anxiety levels (46.2%). Although most students managed their anxiety effectively, no significant relationship was found between self-esteem and anxiety levels during thesis completion. Students adapted well to online learning and thesis submission processes during the pandemic, leveraging available resources and time effectively. Conclusion: While no significant relationship was identified between self-esteem and anxiety levels, the study highlights the importance of resilience, emotional support, and adaptive strategies in helping students manage academic challenges during unprecedented circumstances. Further research is recommended to explore additional factors influencing self-esteem and anxiety.

Abstract

Background: Work stress is a critical issue in nursing that can impact productivity, performance, and overall well-being. Understanding the levels and factors associated with work stress among nurses can help in developing effective management strategies. Objective: To describe the levels of work stress and their association with demographic and professional characteristics among nurses in a hospital in West Kalimantan. Methods: This quantitative, descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted from May 12 to 14, 2023, involving 85 nurses working in inpatient wards. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire and analyzed using descriptive statistics with SPSS software. Results: Most respondents (75.3%) experienced normal levels of work stress, while 23.5% reported mild stress, and 1.2% experienced moderate stress. The majority of respondents were female (76.5%), aged 26"“35 years (77.6%), had 1"“5 years of work experience (51.8%), and held a D3 nursing degree (82.4%). Nurses with shorter work experience and practical education demonstrated better stress management, while high workloads and longer tenures were associated with increased stress levels. Conclusion: The findings indicate that the majority of nurses experienced manageable work stress levels, attributed to effective coping strategies and adaptability. Institutions should implement targeted interventions, such as workload management and wellness programs, to support nurses' mental health and job satisfaction. Further research is recommended to explore additional factors influencing work stress in diverse nursing populations

Abstract

Background: Sleep quality is essential for maintaining physical and mental health. Nurses often face challenges in achieving good sleep quality due to demanding work schedules, high physical activity levels, and irregular shifts, which can lead to poor sleep and reduced overall well-being.Objective: To examine the relationship between physical activity levels and sleep quality among nurses at Bhayangkara Pontianak Hospital. Methods: This study employed a quantitative cross-sectional design. A total of 73 nurses were included using a total sampling technique. Data were collected using the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) to assess sleep quality and the International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ) to measure physical activity levels. The data were analyzed using Spearman Rank correlation. Results: The findings showed a weak negative correlation between physical activity and sleep quality, indicating that higher physical activity levels were associated with poorer sleep quality. Nurses with high physical activity levels and night shift schedules were more likely to experience sleep disturbances. External factors such as environmental conditions and work-related stress also contributed to sleep quality issues. Conclusion: Physical activity has a significant impact on sleep quality among nurses. High physical activity levels, coupled with demanding workloads and irregular shifts, can impair sleep quality. It is recommended that institutions implement strategies to balance physical activity and rest, improve work schedules, and provide support systems to enhance nurses"™ well-being.
