Abstract

This study aims to explain how the 2018 Asian Games can be an effective diplomacy strategy inIndonesia's international communications to the world community. International communicationin this research using diplomatic approach where the discussion concerning internationalrelations in communication science perspective. The study finds that the 2018 Asian Games apata Diplomacy Tool as a messaging symbol, a means of communication to improve or enhancereputation, other findings explain that sports can be a tool of symbolization in internationalcommunications to gain international recognition last Asian Games 2018 can be Aninternational communication tool to demonstrate attitudes toward behavior that are consideredopposed in the international system. Exercise can be a symbol in communication to convey aparticular message to the recipient, the effects of sports symbolization as an introduction to thiscommunication may vary. Similarly, the Asian Games 2018 which is an international sport eventcan be a strong symbol to improve diplomacy through international communication.Key word: Sports, International communication, symbols, communication, diplomacy.

Abstract

To change and neutralize attitudes and thoughts about Muhammadiyah which is considered anticultureand tend to be rigid, after KH. Ahmad Dahlan, then at Tanwir Muhammadiyah in Bali,followed by Tanwir and congress in Makassar and agreed to affirm cultural dakwah as one ofda'wah approach in planting Islamic values and community empowerment. So this research ismade to know the pattern of information flow of Muhammadiyah cultural propagationcommunication is the same with cultural dakwah Walisongo and NU.This research basically uses qualitative approach with descriptive case study technique. Wherethe report obtained from the field later, either from the results of interviews, documentation andobservations described descriptively.From the result of the research, the Muhammadiyah communication pattern is detected by usingthe combination theory of information flow in Joseph A Devito's organization that is wheelpattern (Leader becomes the central figure in deciding every policy and delivering the messageformally) and Y pattern from Message Spoken by Leader but member can send and Received amessage. Where this proves the theory of communication which states in certain conditionscommunicant can exchange the role of communicator when Muhammadiyah in the lower level tochannel Islamic information with cultural approach in the area. There are five cultural da'wahstrategies: (cultural da’wah through local culture, cultural da’wah in the context of globalculture, cultural da’wah through art appreciation, cultural da’wah through multimedia, culturalda’wah through pilgrim movement and da’wah jama’ah), and prove cultural mission carriedMuhammadiyah has Covering a wider scope that suits the culture of modern society. Abstract

Djawa Baroe is a Japanese magazine in Indonesia during World War II in order to supportJapan during the war against allies. The magazine became the center of research object/interest,because it provides a large portion in preaching the Greater East Asia war. The purpose of thisstudy is to find out how the propaganda content in the Djawa Baroe Magazine in preaching awar event during the Japanese occupation in Indonesia from 1942 up to 1945 and to know thelevel of differences in the content of messages based on news topics, type of propaganda andpropaganda techniques.This research is an explanative research. It isdescribing facts and phenomena of a particularmessage or text, and also testing(how many)hypothesis. The technique of the data analysis iscontent analysis using chi square statistical test. It is applied to find out whether there issignificant difference in the message content. Based on the frequency of the contents of themagazine, the most emerging news topic is the spirit of nationalism and patriotism. It is clearlyseen that the Japanese Government efforts to provoke the Indonesian people to be willing tosacrifice, both materially and immaterial, to the struggle of the nation of Japan in liberatingAsia nations from the imperialists of Europe and America. The chi square test shows that in thenews topic category of type or type of propaganda, the value of X² is 20,809 with degrees offreedom (df)=4, then compared on the distribution table X² table=9.49. The value of X² exceedsthe critical value standards of 9,488. This means that there is a significant difference betweeneach type of propaganda on the news topic. In news topic category against propagandatechnique value X² is 50,251 with degree of freedom (df)=12, then compared on X² distributiontable. X²table value exceeds the critical value standard of 21.03. Abstract

The 2017 Major Election of Salatiga concluded that the number of earned votes for currentMajor and Vice-Major Yulianto – Muhammad Haris (Yaris) surpass the earned votes for Agus Rudianto –Dance Palit Ishak (Rudal). As the incumbent, Yaris were much favored politically. Strategic incumbentvariable is a chance to convince public over their government performance. The level of publicsatisfaction over the performance of Major Yulianto could be the main modal to build personal politicalvariable such as popularity, acceptability and electability.This Research use survey data that conducted by the researcher while the 2017 Major Election ofSalatiga is on process. The survey data then analyzed using determination approach with the result of the2017 Major Election of Salatiga that being held on 15 February 2017. Aspect of the method used in thissurvey are using sample frame of Permanent voters list (DPT). The technique used to get the sample arecuplikan random sampling based on the survey location. The survey conduected over 96 TLS with 768reponden. This survey has 3,5% margin error with significance level of 95%.Yaris perceived to have good governing performance of 77%. This incumbent win the electionwith 50,5% earned votes. At the unit level data analysis, 23 kelurahan indicates the distribution arevaries. Although there is a relation between good governing performance and the incumbent to beelected, there are many other variable that affect the result.Key word: local election, Salatiga, incumbent, performance,political personal

Abstract

Descriptive qualitative research titled " Digital Media Literacy of Undergraduate Student ofSurakarta In Dealing with Hoaxes in Social Media " is motivated by the rise of hoaxes in socialmedia. And even the viral in the student WhatsApp group incidentally includes the intellectualsand future leaders of Indonesia. Data collection method in this research is done by interview,observation and document searching. The data validity was obtained by triangulation, the datawas analyzed irreverently with reference to New Media Literacy theory by Jenkin et al. (2009).The results showed that the Surakarta undergraduate students have a fairly good level of DigitalMedia Literacy. They can also identify false news or hoax, but in their daily behavior they areless critical when receiving or accessing information so as to allow exposure to hoax eveninadvertently participating in Whatsapp social media.Keywords: digital media literacy, hoaxes, undergraduate students

Abstract

This research is motivated by the rise of negative news concerning the issue of SARA, radicalismand so on that spread in cyberspace. Social media becomes the easiest place to spread contentlike this because of the easy access given to share any posts. Youtube as the largest video-basedsocial media became one of the reference individuals to find information based on audio andvisual. An academic with his academic background has a certain perception of this youtubemedia in conveying the message of diversity.By using qualitative approach interpretive and case study method, hence got result of researchconducted by academics at Slamet Riyadi University. From the attention variables obtained thatsomeone's motive in watching youtube impressions is to know the clarity of an existinginformation, because of this media based on audio visual. While the external factor of thisvariable is the ease of using youtube to share in multi platform. For Interpretation variablesobtained that the value of the individual is in terms of usefulness using this medium is to increaseknowledge, also in the satisfaction as a place of entertainment. In the experience variables fromindividuals in the world of academics are for improving interest for pay attention to topicsrelated to education. Then, in the culture variables, namely religion and belief become the basisin perceiving a show that contains SARA issues. Individuals want to see how religion deals withemerging issues. Culture is regarded as forming international bridges and interactions. With culture, state canreach influential members of foreign societies who cannot be reached through traditionalembassy function. Bilateral cooperation between Indonesia and Australia is like a roller coasteror love-hate relationship. This study purpose to explain Canberra Festival as tool of culturaldiplomacy of Indonesia in Australia. It is qualitative research with literature as source of data.The object is art performance of Indonesia dancer through Canberra Festival in Australia.Indonesia has more opportunities make cultura performance through Canberra Festival afterhacking incident. Result of the research show culture diplomacy through Canberra Festival canimprove relationship between Indonesia-Australia after hacking accident. Abstract

This research aims to explain how the implementation of local government cooperation withforeign countries or foreign NGO in 2012 until 2017 on around the region of Surakarta. Thedata of that kind cooperation was really hard to get in the newspaper and also by search it onthe internet, researchers want to collect all of international cooperation by local goverment onaround the region of Surakarta in 2012 until 2017. This is because, with the implementation oflocal government autonomy in Indonesian cities and region, now they can make cooperationwith foreign countries or foreign NGO but must still give priority on Indonesian nationalinterest. Researchers believe that altough we could not get it in internet, internationalcooperation between local government exist. By using the theory and concept of diplomacy,international cooperation and national interest, this research make use of qualitative methodwith primary data from the interview with local government staff in cooperation section and alsouse document-based research and explained by descriptive method. Through analysis weconcluded that local government on around the region of Surakarta already have severalinternational cooperation with foreign countries, cities or NGO in 2012 until 2017. But there arestill many obstacles in the implementation of MoU or LoI which already signed by both partiessuch as lack of coordination with national government, local goverment and also agencies whichdirectly involved with international cooperation, lack of capabilities in lobbying and negotiation,lack of english, and budgeting problems.Key words: Local Government, Diplomacy, International Cooperation, National Interest

Abstract

Social capital is a capital that has important role in supporting individuals in interacting with the society. The academic achievement and success of Slamet Riyadi University students from outside Java is highlydetermined to develop social capital that affect the level of trust, social interaction, and reciprocalquality. This study examines how students outside Java at Slamet Riyadi University Surakarta developtheir social capital. As a qualitative research, this study obtained data through observation, interviews,and disscusion group forums. The theory used in this research is the theory of social capital foreducation. The conclusion of this study is the factor that strongly hinder the development of social capitalof students from outside Java at Slamet Riyadi University Surakarta is the taste of food and language.Furthermore, to develop social capital is needed role of institutional support of Slamet Riyadi Universityand community institutions.Keywords: social capital, student, difference
